Mo Salah to leave Liverpool at end of season, ending 9-year tenure at Anfield
Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the current season. The club confirmed the news on Tuesday, bringing the curtain down on one of the most spectacular games in the club’s history.
The 33-year-old Egyptian forward announced the news himself via a video message posted on his social media account. He said he wanted supporters to hear it directly from him.

Salah said, “Unfortunately that day has come. This is the first part of my departure.” “I will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.”
Liverpool supported the announcement with an official statement. The club said Salah had opted to go public as soon as possible “out of respect and gratitude” towards the supporters.
a great nine years
Salah joined Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017 for around $50 million. Very few people would have guessed how much of an impact he would have in the future. He became one of the greatest players in the club’s history, scoring 255 goals in 435 matches. This number puts him third in Liverpool’s all-time scoring list, behind Roger Hunt (285) and Ian Rush (346).
During his nine years at Anfield, he helped the club win eight major trophies. These include two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
Individually, Salah won the Premier League Golden Boot four times, in 2017–18, 2018–19, 2021–22 and 2024–25. This matches the record set by Arsenal great Thierry Henry. His first season at the club, in which he scored 44 goals in all competitions, remains one of the finest individual campaigns in Premier League history.
In his farewell message, Salah expressed what the club means to him.
“I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become a part of my life,” he said. “Liverpool is not just a football club, it is a passion, it is a history, it is a feeling.”
He added, “We celebrated victories, we won the most important trophies and we fought together through the most difficult times of our lives.”
No details regarding his next destination have been announced. At the age of 33, Salah is one of the most recognizable names in world football. His departure marks the end of an era at one of the biggest clubs in the game.
Liverpool have not confirmed any replacement plans ahead of next season.
