NC's rebel MP Mehdi says he will join Delhi protest for J&K statehood, Article 370; calls for mass movement

Srinagar: A day after CM Omar Abdullah Convening a meeting of NC MLAs and MPs at Dachigam National Park on the outskirts of Srinagar and announcing a protest in New Delhi on the opening day of the monsoon session of Parliament for the restoration of statehood and “constitutional guarantees” to Jammu and Kashmir, the party’s rebel MP Agha Ruhullah Mehdi said he was keen to join the protest, and said it should develop into a broader movement. The NC statement issued after Wednesday’s meeting, to which Mehdi was not invited, did not elaborate on what the party meant by “constitutional guarantee to Jammu and Kashmir”, but it was widely believed to be referring to Article 370.Mehdi said the NC should reach out to opposition parties and give momentum to the issue both inside and outside Parliament, as well as garner public support in the Valley. He said, “I will join anyone who fights honestly for Article 370 without pretense or pretense.” He said, “One protest is not enough; it must be an ongoing and ongoing process.”The Srinagar-Ganderbal MP, who has accused the NC leadership of not taking any stand on Article 370, asked Jammu and Kashmir parties to learn from Ladakh. “A united fight can yield results,” he said.
