New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on Congress leader Pawan Kheda’s anticipatory bail in a criminal case filed by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife accusing him of possessing multiple passports and undeclared offshore assets.A bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and AS Chandurkar completed hearing of Kheda’s plea challenging the Guwahati HC’s decision to reject his pre-arrest bail plea.Pressing for bail, senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi told the bench that the CM was making several objectionable comments against the Congress functionary, which showed that he would be arrested even though there was no need for custodial interrogation in the case.Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Assam government, opposed the plea and said Khera showed fake and tampered copies of the passport of the CM’s wife. He said that Kheda is absconding and all the allegations against him are false.
