Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, which will almost halve the travel time between the two cities.The 213 km long six-lane access-controlled Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor has been built at a cost of over Rs 12,000 crore.According to an official statement, the corridor passes through the states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun to about two and a half hours from the current six hours.
The Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor will play an important role in strengthening regional economic growth by enhancing connectivity between major tourism and economic hubs as well as opening new avenues of trade and development across the region.“The project reflects the Prime Minister’s vision to develop next-generation infrastructure that combines high-speed connectivity with environmental sustainability and improved quality of life for citizens,” the statement said.The implementation of the project also includes construction of 10 interchanges, three Railway Over Bridges (ROBs), four major bridges and 12 road facilities to enable seamless high-speed connectivity.The corridor is equipped with an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) to provide passengers with a safer and more efficient travel experience.Keeping in mind the ecological sensitivity, rich biodiversity and wildlife in the area, the corridor has been designed with several features aimed at significantly reducing human-wildlife conflict.To ensure free movement of wild animals, the project includes several dedicated wildlife conservation facilities. These include a 12 km long wildlife high corridor, one of the longest corridors in Asia.The corridor also includes eight animal crossings, two 200-metre elephant underpasses and a 370-metre long tunnel near the Maa Daat Kali temple.Prime Minister Modi On this occasion, floral tribute was paid to Dr. BR Ambedkar.Earlier, Modi inspected the wildlife corridor on the elevated section of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor in Saharanpur.He also held a road show in Saharanpur and waved at people standing in the queue.Modi also offered prayers at Maa Daat Kali temple near Dehradun.A large number of people also gathered in Dehradun and waved to the Prime Minister’s convoy as it passed through the streets of Dehradun.
