While opportunities must be created for the next generation, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes that both of them enjoy a level of security that bowlers rarely get.Ashwin argued that star batsmen like Rohit and Virat hold unique influence because of their achievements and massive fan following, while bowlers like Mohammed Shami And Mohammad Siraj Despite their contribution, the risk of being removed is high.Siraj last represented India in a Test against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh on June 6, 2026, while Shami’s most recent international appearance was in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand in Dubai.Speaking on his YouTube channel ‘Aish Ki Baat’, Ashwin said that dropping Rohit is not as easy as dropping any other player, especially after the recent performance of the experienced opener. He also highlighted the long-standing inequality in Indian cricket, where star batsmen often receive more support and recognition than bowlers.

‘No one can touch Virat or Rohit’

“If Virat or Rohit want to continue playing, no one will be able to touch them because they both have incredible credentials. Rohit has over 12,000 international runs, and both have performed well for India consistently. They are batsmen, and they have huge fan bases. People come to the stadium to watch them. If you take either of them out, the noise will be deafening,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, Ash Ki Baat.

Ashwin raised his voice for the bowlers

Ashwin compared it to the treatment meted out to the bowlers.He said, “If Shami is not picked, or Siraj is not picked, or Bhuvneshwar is not picked, then maybe 10 people will ask the question, then 100, 1,000 or maximum 10,000. But it will not cause that much uproar. That’s the difference. If bowlers also start getting this kind of support, they will also become unstoppable. But the reality is that it is almost impossible to take out Virat or Rohit.”
