The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha said the appeal has exposed the limitations of PM Modi’s decade-long tenure.“In 12 years, he has led the country to a position where it now has to tell the public – what to buy, what not to buy, where to go, where not to go. Every time, they shift the responsibility onto people so that they themselves can escape accountability. Running the country is no longer in the power of a compromising Prime Minister.”The comments came as PM Modi, while addressing a BJP rally in Hyderabad on Sunday, called on the public to make economic sacrifices, citing the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its pressure on India’s foreign exchange reserves.The Prime Minister urged citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption, use metro services, car pool, adopt electric vehicles and work from home where possible. He also asked people to postpone gold buying and foreign travel for a year and reduce the use of edible oil and chemical fertilizers.“We have to save foreign exchange by any means,” PM Modi said at the rally. “During COVID-19, we switched to work from home, virtual meetings, video conferencing and many other methods. We got used to them. The need of the hour is to reintroduce those methods.”Terming the measures as a national duty during the global crisis, the Prime Minister said the West Asia conflict has significantly increased the prices of petrol and fertilizers, affecting the supply chain despite government intervention.
