In the 2016 assembly elections, Sibsagar had 1,38,397 voters, with 1,13,331 valid votes recorded. Congress candidate Pranab Kumar Gogoi won the seat with 48,584 votes, defeating BJP candidate Surbhi Rajkanwar who secured 48,042 votes. The victory margin was 542 votes.
