Independent candidate Akhil Gogoi won the seat with 57,219 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Surbhi Rajkonwari came second with 45,344 votes, losing by a margin of 11,875 votes.In the 2016 assembly elections, Sibsagar had 1,38,397 voters, with 1,13,331 valid votes recorded. Congress candidate Pranab Kumar Gogoi won the seat with 48,584 votes, defeating BJP candidate Surbhi Rajkanwar who secured 48,042 votes. The victory margin was 542 votes.
