Tamil Nadu government allows five shows per day for new Tamil films for the first seven days

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has amended theater regulation rules to allow five shows a day in the first seven days for newly released Tamil films in all theaters across the state.The order was issued by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay following representations made by members of the film industry during a meeting held on May 16.At present, under Rule 14-A of the Tamil Nadu Cinema (Regulation) Rules, 1957, theaters are allowed to show four regular shows a day. The fifth “special show” is permitted only on local festival days or public holidays with the approval of the District Collectors or the City Police Commissioner in Chennai. The government has issued GO to approve the fifth show. After consultation at the request of the industry, the government amended the rules to allow five daily shows without separate permission for the first seven days of the release of new Tamil films, including local festival days, public holidays, Saturdays and Sundays.The government said theater owners will no longer have to seek separate approval from licensing authorities or the state government for screening additional shows during these periods.
