Bhopal: Former district judge Giribala Singh, mother-in-law of 33-year-old Tvisha Sharma, who allegedly committed suicide at her Bhopal home earlier this month, now faces the possibility of cancellation of her anticipatory bail as well as a review of her position as chairperson of the Bhopal District Consumer Commission.Police on Thursday issued a “third and final notice” to Giribala Singh asking him to record his statement in connection with the case. The investigators indicated that if she continues to refrain from cooperating in the investigation, they may approach the court to cancel the anticipatory bail granted to her earlier by the Bhopal sessions court. At the same time, the Madhya Pradesh government has reportedly sought clarification from the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission whether the person under investigation in such a case can continue to be the head of the District Consumer Panel. The matter has also reached the Madhya Pradesh High Court, where several petitions related to alleged dowry deaths are expected to come up before a vacation bench on Friday.Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh, who is still absconding, has moved the Jabalpur bench of the high court for anticipatory bail after his previous plea was rejected by the sessions court. Meanwhile, Tvisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma has filed a petition demanding cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh. Also read: ‘2 days, 2 hours and 20 minutes’: Tvisha Sharma’s mother-in-law claims discrepancy in DVR content, WhatsApp texts were tampered withPolice Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said the notices issued earlier to Giribala Singh could not be served personally as she was not present at her Katara Hills residence – the same house where Twisha was found hanging on May 12. The third notice also could not be given personally and was ultimately sent through WhatsApp.Under the provisions of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS), women, senior citizens, children below 15 years of age and persons with disabilities cannot generally be called to police stations for questioning, with investigators required to record their statements at home or at a mutually agreed upon location.Defense lawyer Mrigendra Singh argued that Tvisha never made any allegations against her husband or mother-in-law before her death and did not leave any suicide note. He accused the dead woman’s family of “spreading lies” after the incident.Meanwhile, Giribala Singh has also approached a magistrate court alleging lapses in handling electronic evidence seized during the investigation. In an application filed before the Judicial Magistrate First Class court, he claimed that the police failed to properly record the contents of the seized DVR linked to the CCTV cameras installed at his residence. The plea said that the CCTV system has not been regularly serviced by the private firm that maintains it, which has led to the alleged discrepancy in the timestamps showing a difference of two days, two hours and 20 minutes. Singh argued that this has created confusion in the public discussion over the case and requested the court to direct the SIT to formally document the contents of the DVR in the presence of independent witnesses. He further sought directions to preserve the electronic devices belonging to Twisha’s relatives, alleging that the doctored WhatsApp chats were being circulated to influence public perception. Also read: Twisha Sharma death case: Both sides reach court for preservation and investigation of electronic evidenceNoida resident and former model turned actor Twisha Sharma was found dead in her marital home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12.
