New Delhi: RG Kar rape victim’s mother and BJP candidate Ratna Debnath is currently leading from Panihati assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas. The Panihati seat has emerged as one of the most watched contests in the West Bengal elections, where Debnath is facing off against TMC candidate Tirthankar Ghosh, son of a five-time sitting MLA. This constituency falls under Dumdum Lok Sabha seat and includes wards 1-14, 16, 17 and 22 of Panihati Municipality.The fight in Panihati has caught the attention of both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress, with the entire constituency seeing extensive publicity. Ratna Debnath has based her candidature on the memory of her daughter and concerns over women’s safety. Debnath had earlier said, “I chose to fight in this election for my daughter and the women whose safety is under threat under the TMC government. Mamata Banerjee And the corrupt leaders of his party are responsible for my daughter’s death. When I arrive to ask for votes, people welcome me and assure me of their support. I have lost my daughter, but I want to serve and help people. I may not become a doctor like him, but as a representative I want to continue his mission.Against this backdrop, Panihati has become a high-stakes constituency where concerns over governance, accountability and women’s safety intersect with established political loyalties. As counting progresses, the results are being closely monitored across West Bengal.Elsewhere in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is leading over BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari.According to the trends of the Election Commission Bharatiya Janata Party It is leading on 121 seats, Trinamool Congress is leading on 71 seats and its ally BGPM is leading on one seat.The second phase of assembly elections in West Bengal recorded the highest turnout since independence with an impressive 91.66% turnout. Voting participation in the first phase was 93.19%, taking the combined voting percentage to 92.47%.
