Women’s T20 World Cup Final, England vs Australia Live Score: England eye domestic glory; Australia is chasing a record seventh title
The iconic venue is expected to be filled with 31,180 fans as England aim to maintain their remarkable World Cup record at home. The host team has never lost the World Cup on home soil, having won all four previous editions held in England.
Standing in their way is six-time champions Australia, who are chasing a record seventh Women’s T20 World Cup title.
Familiar rivals meet again in the final
This will be the fourth Women’s T20 World Cup final between England and Australia. Earlier, both the teams had faced each other in the title clash in 2012, 2014 and 2018.
England are chasing their second Women’s T20 World Cup title after winning the inaugural tournament in 2009, which was also played at Lord’s. Current England head coach Charlotte Edwards captained the team in that historic win.
Meanwhile, Australia have dominated the competition over the years, winning the trophy in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2023.
Australia reached the final with confidence
Australia will enter the final full of confidence after their excellent performance throughout the tournament.
They also have a psychological edge, having whitewashed England 16-0 in the Ashes in Australia early last year, which also included a 3-0 whitewash in the T20 series.
Australia has continued its winning streak under the leadership of new captain Sophie Molineux. Molineux has also been their leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets in six matches.
The defending champions booked their place in the final by defeating India at Lord’s before defeating West Indies by eight wickets in the semi-finals.
Australia were boosted by the return of Phoebe Litchfield after suffering a quadriceps injury during the win over India. However, the fitness of experienced all-rounder Ellyse Perry remains a matter of concern after she retired due to a quadriceps injury in the semi-final against West Indies. However, Perry trained on the eve of the final.
England’s morale boosted by captain’s return
England have got a big relief with captain Natalie Sciver-Brunt returning to form at the right time. He helped England reach the final by playing a match-winning inning of 75 runs in 47 balls against South Africa.
Opening batsman Danny Wyatt-Hodge has also enjoyed an excellent tournament. She is currently the leading run-scorer in the competition with 294 runs and will be crucial to England’s hopes of lifting the trophy in front of their home crowd once again.
