The million-dollar cost of canceling F1 in the Middle East english movie news

Canceling F1 in the Middle East cost millions of dollars
Formula 1 has canceled its Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix due to disruption in regional airspace. While the games’ central organization suffers a financial blow, host cities suffer significant economic losses. These lucrative races, vital to local tourism and hospitality, are now on hold, costing millions in revenue and impacting global performance.

Every year, cities like Bahrain and Jeddah turn into high-flying bazaars of wealth, hosting Formula 1 races that bring in celebrities, billionaires and millions of fans. Hotels were sold out, private jets were lined up, and within days millions of dollars moved into the local economy. This time nothing like this will happen. As the ongoing war in West Asia continues to disrupt airspace and hamper travel, Formula 1 has canceled two lucrative stops: the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Formula 1 announced, “While alternatives were considered, no replacement will be made in April.”The Formula One Group’s official stance remains: safety comes first. But behind this lies a more complex reality. Formula 1 today is not just a sport; It is a traveling luxury economy, moving billions of dollars across continents in a matter of days. And when a caste disappears, that wealth also disappears.cost of not racingThe first hit comes from hosting fees, a key pillar of Formula 1’s business. Bahrain and Saudi Arabia together pay about $115 million a year to stage their races, according to estimates from Guggenheim Partners and industry disclosures. When a race is cancelled, that revenue disappears. These fees flow into the Formula One Group’s central pool, which distributes approximately $1.4 billion in prize money to teams each year. Any shortfall reduces the payout.

Hosting a Grand Prix also puts cities on the global stage. Each race is not a sporting event, but a demonstration.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA

The atmosphere inside the enclosure has become calm. Pointing to income from broadcast deals and sponsorships, McLaren Racing CEO Jack Brown said during the Australian Grand Prix weekend, “We’re not worried if it has a little bit of a financial impact…it will happen.”There is also a cushion. According to a Forbes report, Cadillac’s entry as the 11th Formula 1 team from 2026 comes with a fee of more than $400 million (Rs 3,330 crore). It replenishes prize money that is now divided among more teams and shared among existing organizations, giving each a one-time incentive of more than $40 million this year. The cancellation is also unlikely to strain Formula 1 relations in the region. The Bahrain Grand Prix is contracted until 2036 and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix until 2030, underlining their long-term importance.FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem described both races as “incredibly important” for the season, indicating this was a pause, not a pullback.

F1 Middle East canceled

where is the real lossThe real costs of canceled Formula 1 races are not borne by the teams. It is felt in the cities that host it.“The Formula 1 Grand Prix generates benefits for many sectors of the host country’s economy,” FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem told Finance Middle East in 2025. “While the immediate impact is strongest in hospitality and tourism, the broader economic value touches a wide range of industries.”That impact is immediate and measurable. According to Costar, in 2025, race weekend in Jeddah will boost hotel occupancy to 82.5 percent, up more than 20 percent year on year. Average room rates rose to $222, while revenue per room increased nearly 33 percent. On peak nights, occupancy reached 96.5 percent, with rates doubling in some properties. In Bahrain, the economic footprint is quite clear. The Bahrain International Circuit estimates that its Grand Prix weekend generates approximately $100 million each year. That’s why Formula 1 has become much more than a race. “Hosting a Grand Prix also puts cities on the global stage,” Ben Sulayem said. “Each race is not a sporting event, but a showcase.”A game with a fan base of over 820 millionThe cancellation comes at a time when Formula 1’s financial and cultural momentum remains strong.According to Formula 1 and industry estimates cited by Forbes, the sport’s global fan base now exceeds 820 million. A record 24 races were held in 21 countries in the 2025 season, while attendances continued to grow, with Silverstone attracting more than 500,000 people over a race weekend. For host cities, this translates into a very specific type of visitor.“These visitors generally have a higher propensity to spend,” Glenn Harwood, CEO of data analytics firm Algodriven, told Arab News. He pointed to spending in hotels, fine dining and retail. When a race is cancelled, that flow stops. The global business of Formula 1 absorbs this blow. The local economy does not.F1’s 2025 scorecard

Formula 1 has become much more than a race.

$3.87 billion in revenueAccording to Forbes, Formula 1 is projected to generate revenues of $3.87 billion in 2025, underscoring the scale of the sport’s global business model.827 million fansFormula 1’s global fan base grew to 827 million, up 12% year-on-year and 63% since 2018. Silverstone alone attracted 500,000 attendees over the race weekend. $630 million on screenAs Forbes reports, the F1 film increased the Formula One Group’s revenues – helping push quarterly earnings to $1 billion and deepening the sport’s cultural and commercial reach.

'Complete chaos': BJP's CR Kesavan targets Congress amid controversy over candidate selection in Tamil Nadu
CR Kesavan, left, and Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan on Saturday attacked the Congress in Tamil Nadu and alleged that the party was facing “deep divisions” after MP Jothimani publicly raised concerns over the lack of transparency in constituency selection ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. In a post on Twitter, Kesavan said the developments reflect a larger pattern within the party and also took a dig at the DMK-Congress alliance in the state.“Rahul Gandhi’s Congress is a badly divided house and is in complete disarray in Tamil Nadu. His party MPs from TN are now publicly attacking the Congress leadership for not having transparency. There is a definite pattern to this. Rahul Gandhi’s key man in the Bihar elections was cornered by Congress workers for allegedly selling tickets. This is why the compromised Congress has lost its credibility among the people across the country. The opportunistic DMK-Congress alliance has disintegrated, and the misgovernance of the disaster model DMK government, which has been one of the worst governance in the history of Tamil Nadu, will be unequivocally rejected by the people in the coming elections,” the BJP leader wrote.Kesavan’s comments came after Jothimani publicly questioned the Congress party’s constituency selection process, alleging that the decisions were taken in a “highly secretive manner” and that the welfare of the party was compromised.“There is absolutely no transparency in the constituency selection of the Congress Party. Our view that constituency selection should be done only after transparency and extensive discussion has not been accepted by the responsible leaders. Everything happened in a highly confidential manner. The welfare of the Congress Party has been completely compromised. It is heartbreaking to see some people, who did not even bother to pluck a feather from the decades-old hard work of genuine Congress Party workers like us for the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, now Selling it,” Jothimani wrote on X.He also warned that if the same approach is adopted during candidate selection, the party may have to face serious consequences in Tamil Nadu.“In the face of this terrible situation, no one can remain silent without raising questions. There are not only responsible leaders, state presidents and legislative party leaders in the party. It is the emotions and hard work of lakhs of workers that makes the party. After the list is released, we can discuss it in detail.” If candidate selection is also going to be done with this sales approach, then no one can save the Congress party in Tamil Nadu. This political development comes as the DMK alliance continues preparations for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has announced that its ‘rising sun’ symbol will contest elections in around 175 constituencies in the state. So far, the DMK alliance has allocated seats to nine parties, including Congress (28), MDMK (4), IUML (2), MMK (2), KMDK (2), CPI (5), CPM (5), VCK (8), and DMDK (10). A total of 66 seats have been allotted to the allies, of which seven will be contested under the DMK symbol. With the expected remaining allocation, the DMK will directly contest 168 seats, while ally candidates on seven seats will also contest under the Rising Sun symbol, making a total of 175 seats under the DMK symbol.Tamil Nadu will go to polls in a single phase on April 23 and counting of votes will take place on May 4.

RCB vs SRH, IPL 2026: 5 players to keep an eye on in today's match
Abhishek Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan (Agency Image)

As Royal Challengers Bangalore return to the Chinnaswamy Stadium as defending champions, their opening encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad promises to be a high-scoring, high-pressure contest. Since both the teams are loaded with explosive batsmen and the conditions are expected to be in favor of runs, individual talent can make a lot of difference. Here are five players who could influence the outcome of today’s game:

1. Virat Kohli

There is no match where Kohli is not in focus and this is no different. The former RCB skipper comes into the season after another stellar year, scoring 657 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 144.71 in IPL 2025. Kohli will once again play the responsibility of creating the atmosphere on his home ground. With expectations higher than ever after last season’s title triumph, all eyes will be on how he starts this campaign.

2. Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek’s recent form has been a mixture of struggle and liberation. After a quiet T20 World Cup, he bounced back with a crucial half-century in the final. That knock could be the turning point he needs. In IPL 2025, he scored 439 runs in 14 matches, including a brilliant inning of 141 against Punjab Kings at an average of 193.39. SRH will hope to carry that attacking intent into the new season and provide the early momentum.

3. Ishan Kishan

Fresh from an impressive T20 World Cup campaign, where he finished as India’s second-highest run-scorer behind Sanju Samson, Ishan is entering IPL 2026 with added responsibility. Leading SRH in the absence of Pat Cummins, he will be at the center of both their batting and leadership. Last season, he scored 354 runs in 14 matches at an average of 35.40 and strike rate of 152.59. A strong start could decide the direction of his captaincy tenure.

4. travis head

One of the most dangerous opening batsmen in T20 cricket, Head brings aggression from the very first ball. The Australian left-hander scored 374 runs in 13 matches for SRH last season while maintaining a strike rate of 162.60. On a batting-friendly surface like Chinnaswamy, his ability to dominate in the powerplay can put RCB under immediate pressure.

5. Phil Salt

After a disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup, Salt’s form in the IPL raises questions, but the league gives him a chance to get ready again. He was a key figure in RCB’s title-winning campaign last season, scoring 403 runs in 13 innings at a blistering strike rate of 175.98, which included four fifties. If he finds his rhythm quickly, RCB can once again make a great start at the top. With both teams having powerful batting units and missing key bowlers, this encounter could turn into a run-fest. For RCB, it is all about making a strong start as the defending champions.

Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum shares viral picture of lightning striking Burj Khalifa: The reason given for why the world’s tallest tower does not move

Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum shares viral picture of lightning striking Burj Khalifa: The reason given for why the world's tallest tower does not move
This stunning storm photo of Burj Khalifa taken by Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum is going viral: Know why

The recent storm and rain in the UAE has flooded social media platforms with dramatic scenes of lightning striking Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa and as a result, many viewers are left asking the same question: How can the world’s tallest building survive a direct lightning strike? The answer lies not in luck, but in cutting-edge engineering designed for such moments. If you are also wondering what actually happens when lightning strikes Dubai’s most famous skyscraper and why it is completely safe, read this.

Dubai Prince Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum‘S viral Burj Khalifa’s photo takes the internet by storm

Amid the dramatic storm surge across the city, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of the UAE, came to his senses. Instagram Handle it to share the now-viral photo of that moment. Widely known as “Faza”, he captured a moment that instantly resonated across social media as he shared a striking image of the Burj Khalifa illuminated by lightning and thunder. The prince captioned it, “A moment worth pausing for #Dubai” and punctuated it with lightning bolts and glitter emojis. The post quickly went viral, blending Dubai’s signature grandeur with the raw power of nature. More than just a photograph, it shows the city’s ability to transform even turbulent weather into a visual spectacle, where engineering marvels meet fleeting but awe-inspiring moments.

Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE struck by lightning: why is it not dangerous?

The viral clip may look terrifying with lightning bolts tearing through the sky and hitting the 828-meter tower, but experts say that’s exactly what the building is designed for. In fact, lightning strikes on the Burj Khalifa are normal, expected, and engineered. Tall structures naturally attract lightning and the Burj Khalifa, being the tallest in the world, effectively acts like a giant lightning rod.

Science: How the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE handles lightning

  • A powerful lightning arrester at the top: There is a lightning protection system installed at the very top of the tower. It detects electrical activity in the environment, stops lightning before it can spread, and safely directs the energy into the building’s protection system. Think of it as a controlled entry point for electricity.
  • “Faraday Cage” Effect: One of the most important safety features is called a Faraday cage. The building’s steel structure, metal facade and reinforced frame work together to form a protective envelope that conducts electricity to the outside, not the inside. This ensures that the people inside are safe and the electrical systems remain protected.
  • Down conductor – escape route: Once lightning strikes a building, the energy no longer remains there. It travels through conductive pathways, metal structures and is safely directed to the ground through special systems. This prevents fire hazards, structural damage and power surges inside the building.
  • Advanced Earthing System: A sophisticated earthing system is located at the base of the tower which absorbs the electrical charge and dissipates it safely into the ground. Without it, the energy would have nowhere to go, making the system incomplete.
  • Smart sensors that “predict” lightning strikes: What makes Burj Khalifa even more advanced is its sensor-based system that detects atmospheric changes, identifies lightning conditions and adjusts electrical polarity to attract and control strikes.

In simple terms, the building doesn’t just react to lightning; It predicts it and manages it. Recent unstable weather in the UAE has made lightning more noticeable due to strong storms and cloud formation, affecting atmospheric charge due to dust and moisture, and increased rainfall events. This combination leads to more visible, dramatic lightning, especially around tall structures. As seen in recent footage, the attacks are often brighter, longer lasting and more photogenic but not more dangerous.

What Really Happens When Lightning Strikes Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE

Despite the dramatic scenes, the actual impact is minimal. When lightning strikes Burj Khalifa, the shock is absorbed at the top, the energy flows to the exterior and it sinks into the ground within seconds. There is no explosion, no fire and no danger to the occupants. In fact, the system ensures that the interior remains completely unaffected.Burj Khalifa is not unique in lightning protection, but it is one of the most advanced. All major skyscrapers include lightning rods, grounding systems and surge protection but the height and prominence of the Burj Khalifa requires a far more sophisticated, multi-layered system. This makes it a target of lightning but also one of the safest structures during a storm. The reason these attacks go viral is not because of the threat, but because of the spectacle. Recent clips show lightning bolts lighting up the sky, dramatically striking the summit and storm clouds intensifying the visual impact. As a recent report noted, power was “safely diverted through the tower’s system” despite the chaos caused by the storm across the city. This contrast between visual drama and actual safety attracts audiences around the world.

Real risks during UAE hurricanes

While Burj Khalifa is safe, widespread weather conditions still pose a risk of road flooding, reduced visibility, traffic accidents and flight disruptions. Officials often advise residents to:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel
  • stay indoors during a storm
  • Follow official weather updates

This is because the danger is not the building itself but the environment around it. Lightning strikes are a reminder of the power of nature that is unpredictable, dramatic, and awe-inspiring and also of human engineering that is able to predict and control that power. Burj Khalifa stands at the intersection of both. Yes, lightning can strike the Burj Khalifa but no, there is no danger because behind every dramatic flash there is a system designed to capture, control and send it safely back to Earth.

Electricity from sweat: Scientists have developed sweat sensors and their future looks bright in personal health monitoring.

Electricity from sweat: Scientists have developed sweat sensors and their future looks bright in personal health monitoring

Imagine a world where your fitness tracker or smart watch will never need to be recharged, not because it has a battery that never runs out, but simply because your body provides the power it needs to function. In a significant scientific achievement, a group of Japanese scientists has created a wearable device that harnesses the electricity in human sweat to function. Such a device could revolutionize the future of wearable technology, making it more durable, efficient, and integrated into our daily lives than ever before. By harnessing a function that naturally occurs in the body, scientists are getting closer to a future where charging cables and batteries are a thing of the past.

Sweat sensors: a breakthrough in wearable technology

At the core of this innovation is a biofuel cell, a technology that uses biochemical energy to generate electricity. For example, Japanese scientists, especially those Tokyo University of Sciencehave developed sensors that use compounds such as lactate in sweat to generate electricity. Lactate, a by-product of physical activity, is used as a source of fuel. As soon as it comes in contact with special enzymes on the sensor, a reaction starts, generating electricity. As stated in a research study, these sensors “generate electrical power from the lactate in the wearer’s sweat,” thus providing a continuous flow of electricity. In short, this means that even a simple action, such as walking, exercising or sweating, can generate electricity.

how sweat produces electricity

There are a number of ways scientists are improving sensor performance that can overcome sweat. One of the most important ways to develop sweat sensor technology is how they are made. Scientists have developed a process for creating sweat-sensitive sensors that can be produced through a single-step process using enzymes in inks printed on almost any type of substrate, including paper and clothing fabric. Due to these substantial advances in the development of sweat sensors, it is possible to manufacture them on a large scale, and thus they are being used to power devices such as activity monitors and Bluetooth devices.

Application: from health monitoring for smart wearables

The implications of these sweat sensors go far beyond convenience. The potential of these sensors can be realized in the field of health monitoring.Sweat contains important biomarkers such as electrolytes, glucose and lactate, which are indicators of the physiological state of the human body. According to a study by scientists, these wearable sensors can give us access to “continuous, real-time physiological information.” Another study conducted by University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) Turns out that with the creation of a sensing-power device, researchers are developing self-powered health monitors. This could potentially be used to detect fitness levels, hydration, stress or even the early stages of disease, without the need to recharge the device. This technology could potentially be used in the following ways in the future:

  • fitness tracker or smartwatch
  • medical patch for patients
  • military or extreme environment equipment
  • smart clothing or apparel

The future of battery-free electronics

Although still in the developmental stage, sweat-powered sensors mark a significant advance in battery-free electronics. One of the biggest difficulties associated with wearable technology has been power supply. Traditional batteries are cumbersome, require recharging, and also contribute to environmental degradation. In research conducted by Department of Health and Physical Education, Jianghan UniversityIt said such systems would be “self-powered” and that they “represent a sustainable solution.” It highlights that such technologies will allow us to “interact with electronic devices in ways that are fundamentally different because they can operate continuously without external power or charging.” There is still a long way to go in terms of improving such technologies to make them more powerful and longer lasting. However, with rapid advances in both materials science and bioengineering, the prospects look bright. In the years to come, your body may be your own power source, quietly running the devices that keep you connected, informed, and healthy.
