Prices of 30 medicines including diabetes, BP fixed

New Delhi: Medicines used for diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, infections and women’s health are among the 30 drug formulations for which the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has fixed retail prices, a move that could significantly reduce treatment costs for patients who are long-term drug dependents. The latest notification covers a number of commonly prescribed drugs for chronic diseases affecting millions of Indians, many of which require long-term or lifelong treatment. The formulation includes an anti-diabetic combination containing empagliflozin, sitagliptin, metformin, teneligliptin and dapagliflozin; cardiovascular medications containing atorvastatin, telmisartan, cilnidipine, and metoprolol; Antibiotics for infection; painkillers; Vitamin supplements; and medications used for women’s health conditions.

.

The notification fixes the maximum retail price at which these formulations can be sold, excluding GST, and manufacturers will not be allowed to sell them above the notified rates.Major formulations include empagliflozin-sitagliptin-metformin tablets priced at Rs 14.88 per tablet, sitagliptin-glimepiride-metformin tablets priced at Rs 11.91 per tablet, teneligliptin-dapagliflozin tablets priced at Rs 10.17 per tablet and atorvastatin-fenofibrate tablets priced at Rs 18.46 per tablet. However, market prices may vary according to different brands and strengths. All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists general secretary Rajeev Singhal welcomed the move and said consumers are likely to benefit from the revised prices in 60-90 days, once the existing stock in the supply chain is cleared and the revised-MRP stock reaches the market.Health experts say the contribution of medicines to household health care expenditure in India is significant, especially for patients suffering from chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. Affordable access to treatment is considered important for reducing the financial burden on families and improving adherence to long-term therapy.

SC: Law is against commercialization of prostitution, doesn’t want to ban it. india news

SC: Law is against commercialization of prostitution, does not want to ban it

New Delhi: After a “detailed and nuanced” analysis of the 70-year-old Immoral Traffic Prevention Act (ITPA), the Supreme Court has ruled that the main objective of the law is neither to eliminate prostitution nor to make it a criminal offence, but to prevent its commercialization.A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan said, “We are convinced that the main objective of the Act is not to eliminate prostitution or to make prostitution a criminal offence. Rather, its objective is to prevent or eliminate commercialization of prostitution, that is, prostitution as an organized means of earning a living.”While dealing with the issue of rehabilitation of women rescued from brothels, the bench analyzed the 1956 Act and said that in the early 20th century, trafficking of women for prostitution was common and considered “immoral”, hence the term got attached to the law.The Immoral Traffic Prevention Act (ITPA) was brought in primarily to punish criminals and not to punish prostitutes,” the Supreme Court said.Writing the 298-page judgment, Justice Pardiwala said Sections 7 and 8 of the Act, which provide for punishing individual acts of prostitution in specific circumstances such as “open prostitution”, are exceptions to this general rule. Section 7 punishes any person engaged in prostitution near public places, and Section 8 criminalizes soliciting clients in public places. The bench said, “The view is that although individual acts of prostitution do not directly demand abandonment, yet public decency and social morality require that even visible initiatives for such solitary, non-commercial forms of prostitution in the vicinity of public institutions and other notified areas be prevented in order to prevent public nuisance.” Wasn’t trying to make a case for de-regulation. Business. What we are trying to convey is that while making it clear that the legislative intent is not to condemn all acts of prostitution, the definition retains some regulatory ambiguity by characterizing it solely as abusive or exploitative. On examination of the definition of the word ‘brothel’ in Section 2 of the Act, the bench said, “It must be made clear that where a single woman carries on prostitution for her livelihood, without any other prostitute, or without involving any other person in the maintenance of such premises, her residence will not be a ‘brothel’.”

Iran’s President Pezeshkian resigns supreme leader over IRGC control, reports say; The officer rejected the claim

Iran's President Pezeshkian resigns supreme leader over IRGC control, reports say; The officer rejected the claim

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian has reportedly submitted a resignation letter to the Supreme Leader’s office, Fox News said, citing an Iranian media report.According to the report, which cited an unnamed Iran International source, Pezeshkian said in the letter that his administration was excluded from major decision-making processes in Iran, while radical factions within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had taken control of key matters. The report further claims that Pezeshkian wrote that he is unable to govern effectively or fulfill his legal responsibilities under such circumstances and has therefore requested to step down immediately.Iran International also said it was unclear whether Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s office would accept the resignation. However, an official in Iran’s presidential office rejected these reports. “The baseless and controversial statements of a young fame-seeker regarding the presidency’s positions should not be taken seriously,” said Seyed Mehdi Tabatabai, vice president of the Communications and Information Dissemination Department of the Presidential Office. The childish behavior of some misguided elements should not spread the false narrative that the youth do not have the capacity to play a role in governing the country. Iran is full of thoughtful youth who have not been given the opportunity for excellent management.”Rejecting reports of the resignation, he said, “The spreading of rumors by controversial foreign networks is a continuation of the previous ridiculous media game. They have published their wishful thinking in place of reality. President Pezeshkian will not turn back from serving the people, just as the Iranian nation will not turn back from the path of solidarity and resistance. He will take his desire to break the unity of the Iranian nation to the grave.

BJP team meeting at PM residence to finalize RS, MLC elections. india news

New Delhi: Ahead of the elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats and MLC in some states, BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) held a meeting at PM Narendra Modi’s residence on Sunday to finalize the names of candidates. The CEC includes Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh and BJP president Nitin Nabin, and its meeting took place a day before the filing of nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections. Soon after the meeting, the BJP released its list of 10 candidates for the MLC elections on 16 seats in Maharashtra, a day before the deadline for filing nominations. It is rare for BJP CEC members to hold a physical meeting ahead of the RS or MLC elections, and there is a view that top party functionaries may also have deliberated on other important political matters, including the impending change in the national team of office-bearers of the organisation. The dispute between top officials of the state BJP and its two Maharashtra allies, Shiv Sena and NCP, over their share of MLC seats may also have prompted the BJP top officials to intervene. As the standoff continued, Army chief and deputy CM Eknath Shinde had raised the matter with Shah. The 24 Rajya Sabha seats are spread across Andhra Pradesh (4), Gujarat (4), Karnataka (4), Madhya Pradesh (3), Rajasthan (3), Jharkhand (2), and one seat each is vacant in the four northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Mizoram.
