Kid Rock delivers unusual Memorial Day speech from inside the Pentagon as friendship with Pete Hegseth hits headlines

Kid Rock delivered an unusual Memorial Day message from inside the Pentagon this week, appearing behind a Defense Department official onstage wearing sunglasses, a hoodie and a thick chain as he paid tribute to fallen U.S. service members.A video message was issued by the Defense Department. Kid Rock is also friends with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.“Hello everyone, this is Kid Rock,” the singer said as footage of soldiers and military hardware played on the screen. “This Memorial Day, we are remembering the sacrifice and service of so many who are no longer with us today. It is a special day.“We are thinking about them. Once again, I want to say thank you. God bless you all for your sacrifice, your service. Keep rocking the kid in the free world. God bless you all.”His closing line appeared to echo Neil Young’s famous song “Rockin’ in the Free World”, despite Young being a longtime critic of US President Donald Trump.Young has criticized Trump in recent years and previously sued him over the use of his music at campaign rallies. In 2024, Young released the song “Big Crime”, which included the lyric: “The bigger crime in DC is in the White House.”Kid Rock’s real name is Robert Richie. He has become close to Hegseth in recent months. In April, during filming tied to the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the pair flew in AH-64 Apache helicopters from an Army airbase at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. According to the Daily Beast, helicopters typically require two pilots, but each plane only had one pilot to make room for passengers.Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell defended the event, saying: “Today, Army helicopters operated over the National Capital Region in support of the Independence 250th Community Relations Event.”He added that Kid Rock “participated in several military liaisons with service members and filmed videos for Memorial Day, America’s 250th birthday and his Freedom 250 tour.”Parnell also said the musician’s visit gave him an opportunity to “thank service members, highlight the professionalism of the men and women who support the mission, and recognize their continued sacrifice in honor of our nation.”The Memorial Day appearance followed another controversial stunt in March, when Apache helicopters flew over Kid Rock’s home in Nashville while the singer saluted below. He said at the time, “God bless America and all those who have made the supreme sacrifice to protect her.”Later reports claimed that the pilots involved were briefly suspended before Hegseth intervened and overturned the decision. The Pentagon’s video also came as Trump faced criticism over comments he made about military deaths during a recent interview while discussing conflicts involving Iran and Venezuela.

BJP takes steps to restore unity in Karnataka amid leadership struggle. india news

BJP is moving towards getting its house in order in Karnataka

New Delhi: The BJP leadership has moved to set its house in order in Karnataka, where its state unit is plagued by dissonant voices, and is setting its sights on the only southern state where the party is in power amid a perception that it has not been able to effectively harness “anti-incumbency” sentiments against the Congress government even as its leadership has been openly at loggerheads for several months at the cost of governance.BJP President held a series of meetings with party officials including MPs and MLAs besides organizational officials. Nitin Nabin Was clear in emphasizing the need for unity.Describing Nabeen as a practical and approachable person, a party official said, “His main message was that everyone should work together in the interest of the party and keep aside any doubt on one’s senior or junior status in view of the upcoming challenges.”After losing to the Congress in the two recent assembly bypolls, the BJP is now keen to make its mark in the upcoming local body elections, including the prestigious Greater Bengaluru Authority, to script a victory story for the 2028 state elections.Karnataka has posed a unique set of challenges for the party, which have been further heightened by the withdrawal of former CM and the state’s tallest leader BS Yediyurappa from electoral politics and the emergence of his younger son Vijayendra as his political successor.Vijayendra was made the state BJP president in November 2023, but a section of senior party functionaries were less happy with his leadership. While the party has elected its presidents in most states after its membership drive, which is a traditional process, not in Karnataka as its national leadership navigates claims and counterclaims while trying to maintain a fine balance.Though Yediyurappa, the state’s biggest Lingayat face, often faced challenges within the BJP, his stature and political acumen helped him keep him on the periphery. The BJP was forced to expel Yediyurappa’s rival Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, who had become increasingly vocal after his son took charge of the party last year, and oust two more MLAs for not voting for its candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections, almost unthinkable in its other state units. While the party’s reach in North, West and East India is wider than before, it is now expanding its influence in South India, where four states are ruled by opposition parties, while its ally TDP is the dominant party in Andhra Pradesh.

IPL Qualifier 1: Virat Kohli vs Shubman Gill away from limelight, Bhuvneshwar Kumar vs Mohammed Siraj can decide the match
In a high-scoring season, IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 could be decided by the bowlers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the charge for RCB while Mohammed Siraj will lead the effort for GT. (agencies)

TimesofIndia.com in Dharamshala: Flat pitches, sky-high sixes and consistent run-scoring have defined IPL 2026 so far. But when Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) meet in Qualifier 1 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium on Tuesday, the contest may ultimately depend on the bowlers. The HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala is not suitable for bowlers due to its short boundaries. The way Gujarat Titans have been playing in the last few days jos buttler And Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Tim David was emptying the ball box with spectacular sixes in the stand and outside the stadium as well, offering a teaser of what could be in store in Qualifier 1. There is no doubt that this could be another high-scoring contest. In the three matches played here this year, teams crossed the 200-run mark five times. The only innings that fell short ended at 199/8. In those three games, 74 sixes have been hit, an average of about 25 maximums per match. The batsmen will be salivating at the prospect of another run-fest.This will also be another chapter in the battle between the ‘King’ – Virat Kohli – And ‘Prince’ – Shubman Gill – Who is seen by many as the inheritor of the batting legacy of Indian cricket. Both looked in great form during the hour-long net session. With 616 runs in 13 matches, Gill is second in the race for the Orange Cap after opening partner Sai Sudarshan. After a brief slump in the middle of the tournament, Kohli has rediscovered his form with a brilliant century and now has 557 runs to his name this season. But amid the noise around batting firepower, it may be the bowlers who determine which way the contest goes.GT assistant coach Vijay Dahiya believes that the contest is evenly matched due to the quality bowling attacks both the teams have.

“In cricket, it’s always about putting runs on the board. But at the end of the day, you have to have a solid bowling unit and that’s what it is. The other important thing is consistency. If you look at both the sides, the bowling units have been very consistent.”“And the confidence in the bowlers, as well as the confidence shown in them by the captain and the management, means you will hardly see any changes in either side. I think that’s what is beneficial,” Dahiya told reporters. With 24 wickets in 14 matches, Bhuvneshwar Kumar And with Kagiso Rabada the joint-highest wicket-taker between the two teams, the Indian veteran has overtaken the South African in terms of economy rate. not far behind Mohammad Siraj With 17 wickets. With Josh Hazlewood (12), Jason Holder (13), Prasidh Krishna (14) and Rasikh Salaam Dar (14), it could turn out to be an even contest. Add spinners Rashid Khan (19) and Krunal Pandya (11) to the equation, and the battle will become more interesting.Dahiya admitted that it will be important to interact with Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the powerplay, but he also warned RCB that GT has equal firepower with Siraj and Rabada.

“As far as the challenge goes [Bhuvneshwar Kumar] is concerned, I think the same can be said for our opposition also. If you talk about powerplay, our numbers are among the best in this tournament. So if the conditions are favourable, it works out for both the teams,” Dahiya said.RCB captain Rajat Patidar echoed this sentiment, emphasizing how important Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s role could be when facing the two highest run-scorers of the season, Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill.“Our strength is bowling. The way we bowl in the powerplay will be very important. We will try to take early wickets and that is what we have done throughout the tournament. Repeating the same process again and again can make the difference.” “That’s what Bhuvi has done and we hope it continues like this,” Patidar said.In a season dominated by batting spotlight and rising scores, Qualifier 1 could ultimately come down to which bowling attack can hold its own for some crucial overs. On a field built for big hitting, the team whose bowlers blink last can secure a direct spot in the team IPL Last.

Socrates’ Quote of the Day: “By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you will be happy; if you get a bad wife, you will become a philosopher.” | world News

Socrates' quote of the day:
Socrates (Image: Wikipedia)

This line is one of those quotes that never really goes out of style. It shows up in articles, social media posts, and casual conversations about relationships. It feels ancient, a little humorous and a little provocative all at the same time. But there’s a layer beneath that that people don’t always stop to think about. This is not just a joke about marriage. It reflects an old philosophical way of looking at life, relationships, and personal growth through discomfort and experience.Whether Socrates actually said it in this exact form is another question. Yet, the idea associated with it has spread so widely that it has taken on a life of its own.And that alone makes it interesting.

Quote of the Day by Socrates

“By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you will be happy; if you get a bad wife, you will become a philosopher.”

The meaning behind this statement of Socrates

On a surface level, the quote is simple. This presents marriage as a kind of thorn in the experience. One path leads to happiness, the other to intellectual development. This contradiction is what makes it memorable. But the deeper meaning isn’t really about marriage itself. It is more about how humans react to life situations that they cannot completely control.A “good wife”, in the outline of the quote, represents harmony, emotional stability and spontaneity in daily life. Things go smoothly. Life feels organized. There is comfort, and not much internal conflict. On the other hand, a “bad wife” represents stress or difficulty. Not necessarily in the literal sense, but as a symbol of friction in close relationships. And that friction, according to the idea, forces reflection. This forces one to question. It forces one to think. This is where philosophy enters the picture. So the quote is not actually ranking types of spouses. This is pointing to two different human outcomes. Happiness can be found in comfort. Difficulty can lead to introspection.Sometimes both occur together in real life, just not in such clear separation. It also reflects an old philosophical belief that pain or discomfort often produces deep thinking. Many ancient thinkers believed that knowledge does not come naturally, but through challenge. The tone may seem ridiculous today, but the underlying structure is quite serious. It’s about how people are shaped by the circumstances they live in.And relationships, especially close relationships like marriage, exacerbate those conditions.

Context and attribution of Socrates’ quote

This quote is widely attributed to Socrates, but historians and scholars often point out that it does not appear directly in his original recorded dialogues.Much of what we know about Socrates comes through the writings of his students, especially Plato. Because of this, many proverbs attributed to him are actually later interpretations, summaries or even cultural additions that have evolved over time. This particular quote is often treated more like a traditional saying than a verified historical statement. It has been repeated so many times that it has become slightly different from its original. This doesn’t make it meaningless, but it changes how it should be read. Rather than regarding it as a strictly philosophical theory of Socrates himself, it may be more accurate to view it as a distilled “Socratic-style” reflection on life and relationships. The humor in it also seems more modern than in classical Greek writing. This is why scholars sometimes question its origin.Nevertheless, the association with Socrates remains strong because this idea matches his broader philosophical outlook. He often focused on questioning assumptions, examining human behavior, and exploring how people grow through discomfort. So even though the words are not entirely his, the spirit of the quote seems to fit his style of thinking.

Life lessons hidden inside thoughts

One way to read this quote is as a commentary on unpredictability. Life does not always produce predictable results. The choices lead to different experiences, and not all of them are comfortable.Marriage, in this framework, simply becomes a metaphor for long-term commitment. Not just romantic relationships, but any deep, shared human bond where the outcome is uncertain.Sometimes people enter relationships expecting stability and achieve it. Other times, they enter expecting stability and instead find complexity, disagreement, or emotional tension. The quote suggests that both outcomes have value, just in different ways.Happiness is simple. It feels good, it organizes life, it brings spontaneity. In this sense, philosophy is not merely academic thinking. It is a reflection born of difficulty. When life becomes complicated, people start asking deeper questions. Why are things the way they are? What should be changed? How is meaning created? The quote has a slightly sarcastic tone, but also a quiet acceptance of the unpredictability of life.It does not promise control. It simply means that whatever happens, something will be achieved.

Why does this quote still attract attention today?

One reason this quote continues to circulate is because it blends humor with discomfort. People recognize the joke on the surface, but they also sense something more serious underlying it.Modern relationships are now discussed more openly. People talk about adaptability, emotional labor, communication style, and expectations. In that context, the quote seems oddly relevant, even if exaggerated. It reflects a feeling that many people understand but rarely say outright. Close relationships can shape personality in unexpected ways. Not always to extremes, but gradually. silent. Some people read this as cynicism. Others read it as playful wisdom. Some people take it as a precaution. Most share it simply because it seems clever and a little provocative. This is usually how these ancient quotes survive in modern culture. Not because they are completely accurate, but because they are flexible enough to fit multiple interpretations. And it is very flexible.

Misinterpretation and modern framing

It is important to note that reading this quote literally can be misleading. This does not mean that marriage is destined to produce happiness or unhappiness in a certain way. It also does not suggest that partners can be divided into “good” or “bad” categories in any meaningful sense.Real relationships are much more complex. They change with time. They develop based on communication, shared experiences, and external pressures. The quote really compresses a wide range of human experience into a simple binary structure. This makes it memorable, but also incomplete. In modern psychology, relationship dynamics are usually discussed in terms of compatibility, emotional regulation, attachment styles, and communication patterns. None of this fits into a simple happiness-versus-philosophy framework.Nevertheless, the quote continues to be shared because simplicity is often faster than accuracy. And sometimes people aren’t looking for precision. They are looking for something that reflects an emotion.

A closer look at Socratic thinking

Even though the wording is debated, the idea connects loosely to the spirit of Socratic philosophy. Socrates was known for questioning assumptions rather than accepting easy answers. His approach to life often involved dialogue, contemplation and intellectual discomfort. He believed that knowledge comes from recognizing what you don’t know.In that sense, the “be a philosopher” part of the quote symbolically fits his legacy, even if not historically accurate. For Socrates, philosophy was not a profession or identity. It was a way of connecting with life. Constant questioning. Constant checking. So when the quote says that difficulty leads to philosophy, it loosely aligns with that worldview, even if it simplifies it into a humorous paradox.

Other famous quotes from Socrates

“the unexamined life is not worth living.”“I know that I know nothing.”“To find yourself, think about yourself.”“Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people.”“Education is lighting a flame, not filling a vessel.”“Be kind, because everyone you meet is fighting an uphill battle.”

final reflection

This quote survives because it sits between humor and philosophy. It is not meant to be a strict rule about marriage, nor a literal prediction of life’s outcomes. It’s like a playful observation of how experiences shape people in different ways. Both happiness and difficulty are part of human relationships. Sometimes they overlap, sometimes they alternate, sometimes they come unexpectedly. And perhaps that’s the real reason why this quote still resonates. It makes a very complex reality simple enough to remember, but open enough to debate. That’s why that balance keeps coming back.

Another coal ‘scam’ case fails, brother of former minister Subodh Kant Sahay acquitted. india news

Another coal 'scam' case fails, former minister Subodh Kant Sahay's brother acquitted

New Delhi: A special CBI court in Delhi has acquitted former Union minister Subodh Kant Sahay’s brother and others in the coal block allocation case, strongly criticizing the prosecution’s investigation and evidence. The former minister’s brother, Sudhir Kumar Sahay, was one of the directors of SKS Ispat and Power Ltd, an accused in the case.“The entire case of prosecution for the offense of criminal conspiracy is based on conjectures and conjectures without any solid basis,” Special Judge Sunena Sharma said in her 271-page judgment last week. “The prosecution has miserably failed against all the accused in the absence of direct or indirect evidence to prove conspiracy under section 120B of the IPC,” the judge said. The case, one of 53 under the so-called “coal scam”, arose out of a 2012 reference by the Central Vigilance Commission into alleged irregularities in coal block allocation between 2006 and 2009.The CBI had alleged that SKS and its officials wrongly inflated the company’s investment, land possession, production capacity and environmental clearance to secure the allotment of Vijay Central Coal Block in Chhattisgarh. It also alleged that Sudhir Kumar Sahay misrepresented himself as a director and attempted to influence the process through recommendation letters, including one sent through his brother. However, given that the mining rights were held by Coal India Limited and not SKS, the court questioned how the private company could dishonestly obtain any ill-gotten gains and held that the allotment letter “cannot be construed as a grant of largesse” and was “more in the nature of coal linkage.”Rejecting the allegations of inflated financial muscle, the court said that the figures relied upon by SKS came from “audited balance sheets/annual reports” and were never alleged by the CBI to be fake.On the question of recommendation letters, Sahay’s lawyer, Neeraj Chaudhary, argued that “they were never considered by the coal or screening ministry”. The court agreed, saying there was “no evidence on record” to show the screening committee was influenced by the letters. It termed the prosecution’s interpretation of land and environmental clearance as “far-fetched” and “wholly unreasonable”.In 2014, the Supreme Court had quashed 214 coal block allocations made between 1993 and 2010, ordering a trial before a special CBI court.

No place for Virat Kohli, Vaibhav Suryavanshi finds place in former CSK star's best IPL 2026 playing XI
Virat Kohli and Vaibhav Suryavanshi

New Delhi: Former India and CSK batsman Subramaniam Badrinath has given his best performance IPL 2026 Playing XI for the league stage, and the biggest talking point was the exclusion of superstars Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Instead, Badrinath chose young opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi along with Shubman Gill at the top of the order, revealing the lineup in a video on his YouTube channel.Their team was largely built around players from the top four teams that qualified for the playoffs, with nine of the 12 selections coming from those teams. Badrinath preferred an Indian-heavy batting lineup and relied primarily on foreign stars in the bowling department, which reflects how many IPL franchises are typically structured. At number three, he chose Sai Sudarshan, while Heinrich Klaasen was selected as the middle-order powerhouse. Rajat Patidar also earned a place in the team as a finisher due to his impressive strike rate and ability to accelerate in pressure situations, even though he was not among the top run-scorers of the tournament.Badrinath’s lineup was heavily tilted towards bowlers and all-rounders in the lower order. He selected spin all-rounders Krunal Pandya and Sunil Narine for their wicket-taking ability and economical spells during the season. One surprising omission was Rashid Khan, despite his strong wickets. It appears that Badrinath gives importance to economy rate and controlling the wicket count only. The pace attack included the tournament’s leading wicket-takers: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jofra Archer and Kagiso Rabada. He also added Prince Yadav or Karthik Tyagi as additional pace options, while Akeal Hossein was selected as an impact player.Subramaniam Badrinath IPL 2026 XII: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudarshan, Heinrich Klaasen, Rajat Patidar, Krunal Pandya, Sunil Narine, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Joffra Archer, Kagiso Rabada, Prince Yadav/Karthik Tyagi

Fourth CNG price hike: IGL hikes rates by Rs 2 across NCR region

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) on Tuesday announced another increase in compressed natural gas (CNG) rates, taking the number of hikes to four in less than two weeks. The latest revision saw CNG prices rise by Rs 2 per kg. The latest hike comes after IGL increased CNG prices by Rs 2 per kg on Saturday. Earlier, rates were increased by Rs 2 per kg on May 15, followed by an increase of Re 1 on May 17. The repeated increase in CNG prices comes amid higher global energy prices linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, oil marketing companies (OMCs) on Monday announced another hike in petrol and diesel prices, taking the cumulative increase to around Rs 7.5 per litre. Petrol prices were raised by Rs 2.61 per liter and diesel by Rs 2.71 per litre, the fourth fuel price hike in less than two weeks. According to industry sources, petrol prices in the national capital rose to Rs 102.12 from Rs 99.51 per litre, while diesel rates rose to Rs 95.20 from Rs 92.49 per litre. Continued increases in fuel prices are expected to put pressure on transportation costs and household budgets as consumers face higher spending amid volatility in global energy markets.Meanwhile, the Middle East conflict that began with the US and Israel launching joint strikes on Iran on February 28 continues to intensify. Following the attack, Iran tightened its noose on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, the pipeline that carries 20% of the world’s fuel supply, causing a worldwide uproar.

Megyn Kelly says 'Trump cheated on every one of his wives', internet wonders what happened to them
Megyn Kelly says Trump cheated on all his wives.

Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly’s explosive claim that President Donald Trump cheated on his wife has gone viral and left the Internet wondering what happened to Kelly, who once called Trump a “savior” of women. Kelly said, “Trump has cheated on each of his wives. He met Marla Maples when he was married to Ivana, the mother of his children.” On Ivana’s rape allegation, which he later withdrew, Kelly said he didn’t know what happened there but it was not a good relationship. “He ended up with Melania and if you think Trump has been faithful to Melania, you have bigger issues than I can solve,” Megyn Kelly said in an appearance on the Hodgetwins podcast. The comments were in reference to President Trump’s dig at his former National Counterterrorism Center director Joe Kent. Kent resigned from the Trump administration over the Iran war, but Trump launched a character assassination after he suggested Kent remarried “fairly soon” after the death of his first wife, Shannon, in 2019.Kelly began to distance himself from the President and MAGA because he did not support the Iran war. But his reversal on an issue on which he had championed Trump in the past left no room for him to escape judgment.Laura Loomer wrote, “Megyn Kelly has always been an opportunistic snake.” “It was a big mistake for Trump’s campaign staff to allow that person on stage at his rallies.”Conservative commentator Goldberg wrote, “I love how MAGA supporters, who ignored or even celebrated Trump’s character flaws, now suddenly realize them and pretend to be brave truth-tellers.” “When it cost them, they happily promoted the cult. Now they’re saying ‘Oh my God, it’s a cult! Why can’t you watch it?!'”Commenter Bonch wrote, “Seeing Megyn, who spent the last several years declaring herself some kind of MAGA queen, now making it the talk of 2016 is hilarious.” “I mean, if it was an issue for you, why wasn’t it an issue a year ago?”
