Justice B.V. A bench of Justices Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan said that forcing a woman, especially a minor, to carry a full term pregnancy against her will, would cause mental, emotional and physical trauma.Rejecting the suggestion of allowing the girl to give birth and giving the newborn baby for adoption, the bench said that the choice of the pregnant woman is more important. The Supreme Court bench said, “This cannot be considered especially in cases where the child to be born is unwanted. In such a situation, directing the pregnant woman to give birth to the child against her will and hence to continue her pregnancy would negate the welfare of the pregnant woman and subject her to the yet-to-be-born child.”
