At a press conference on Friday, Chadha said the decision came after MPs felt that the Arvind Kejriwal-led party had deviated from its principles, values and core ethics. When announcing the move he also described himself as “the right man in the wrong party”.“We have decided that we, two-thirds of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Rajya Sabha, will exercise the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP,” he said at the Constitution Club in Delhi. The reported exit includes many prominent names like Swati Maliwal, cricketer-turned-Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh, Sandeep Pathak, Rajinder Gupta and Vikramjit Singh Sahni.Meanwhile, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh said he would write to the Rajya Sabha Chairman seeking disqualification of the three MPs under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, which deals with disqualification on the grounds of defection. In a post on X, he said, “I will be submitting a letter to the Honorable Rajya Sabha Chairman, demanding disqualification of Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal and Sandeep Pathak from Rajya Sabha membership for joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as it is tantamount to voluntarily giving up the membership of their parent party under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.”
