If it acts like this, then whatever is necessary will be done,” he said. He said that at that time only 35 percent voting took place.

BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya claimed that voters at many booths were prevented from choosing the BJP option due to the use of tape. He dubbed the alleged practice the “Diamond Harbor model” and called for immediate repolling in the affected areas. Malviya also cited specific booths, one of which was at Harindanga High School, and claimed that several other booths like Booth 189 were similarly compromised.Responding to the claims, the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal said that any reports of tampering would be thoroughly verified. “If there is a report of any button being taped, it should be verified and noted. If true, re-polling will take place at those booths,” the CEO said. And assured action if irregularities are confirmed.The controversy came to the fore amid brisk voting in 142 constituencies in the second phase, with voting reaching nearly 40 per cent by 11 am. Districts like East Bardhaman and Hooghly recorded the highest level of participation.Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed concern over the conduct of central forces and polling officials and alleged that the “new people” brought in were acting arbitrarily.
