Patna: On Thursday, a 22-year-old woman was shot dead in Ghoraghat Ward-1 of Forbesganj police station area, a few hours before the prospective groom’s family was scheduled to meet her. The accused, identified as Mohammad Kasib (25), allegedly entered the room of Chandni Khatoon, daughter of Mohammad Gyasuddin, at around 8 am and fired three rounds at her. One bullet hit him in the chest, while two others hit his arm. Police said that he died on the spot.According to police, Kasib and Chandni were neighbors since childhood and studied in the same madrasa. They were friends earlier, but Chandni rejected his marriage proposal. Family members said that Kasib had been pressurizing her to marry him for the last three years, despite her refusal. He had also allegedly threatened to kill her if she did not agree.On Wednesday night, Kasib reportedly learned that the groom’s family was coming to meet Chandni on May 7. He allegedly tried to enter her house but failed and stayed nearby throughout the night.On Thursday morning, when Chandni’s mother opened the gate and came out, Kasib entered the house and shot Chandni, who was sleeping with her younger sister, from close range. Because the silencer was installed, the sister did not hear the sound of the bullet.About 30 minutes later, the younger sister found Chandni soaked in blood and alerted the neighbours. He was taken to Forbesganj Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Dr Krishna Mohan Kumar, who treated him, said the bullet hit him on the right side of his chest and he died due to excessive bleeding.The victim’s mother said that the accused knew the family and used to visit their house. Her husband works as a laborer in another state.Forbesganj SDPO Mukesh Kumar Saha said that prima facie the matter appears to be related to a one-sided love affair. The accused is absconding and the police is conducting raids to arrest him.
