Arvind Kejriwal shocked the court by refusing to appear in the excise case

In his letter, Sisodia said that “the future of your children is in the hands of Tushar Mehta”, adding that he has “no hope of justice” and would instead follow the only path of Satyagraha.A day earlier, Arvind Kejriwal had announced a similar boycott of the hearing before Justice Sharma in the Delhi High Court. In the four-page letter, the AAP chief said he would neither appear personally nor be represented by a lawyer in their court in the excise policy case.Kejriwal said he has come to a ‘clear conclusion’ that the proceedings do not live up to the principle that justice should not only be done but justice should also be seen to be done. His decision came after the judge rejected his petition seeking recusal.“My hope of getting justice… has been dashed. Listening to my conscience and following the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, I have decided not to appear before him in this case,” Kejriwal said in a post on Twitter. The development comes after a special court’s February 27 order acquitted Kejriwal, Sisodia and others in the alleged excise policy corruption case. After this, the CBI challenged the decision in the High Court, where Justice Sharma is now hearing the case.Articulating his concerns, Kejriwal alleged that Justice Sharma had attended events associated with the All India Advocates Council and raised questions over possible conflict of interest, claiming that his children are listed as lawyers for the Central government, which is represented in the court by Solicitor General Mehta. However, he reiterated his “full faith in the judiciary” and made it clear that he greatly respects Justice Sharma, adding that he would have no objection to appearing before him in other cases where the BJP, the Center or Tushar Mehta are not involved.
