France World Cup 2026 squad: Eduardo Camavinga left out as Kylian Mbappe leads strong side

France unveiled a talent-packed squad for the upcoming World Cup on Thursday, although there was one key name missing from Didier Deschamps’ final selection – Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. Ranked No. 1 in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings, France enter the tournament as one of the strongest contenders.

FIFA World Cup 2026 coverage

Captain Kylian Mbappe headlines the team alongside attacking stars Ousmane Dembele and Michael Olise. The midfield will feature Aurelien Tchoumeni and the experienced N’Golo Kante, while the defense consists of William Saliba, Jules Kounde and Theo Hernandez. Mike Maignan will serve as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Despite being part of France’s runner-up squad at the 2022 World Cup and featuring in March international fixtures, Camavinga failed to make the final 26-man list. At club level, he has recently fallen behind Thiago Pitarch in Real Madrid’s midfield pecking order.

“He had a difficult season where he played less. He also had injuries,” Deschamps was quoted as saying by Reuters. “It is true that he is a player who came to us very early. He is still a young player.

“Because I also have options to build the team structure, there should be equality between defenders, midfielders and forwards. But I understand and I imagine their huge disappointment this evening.”

Deschamps chose Brice Samba and Robin Risser as Maignan’s students, the latter gaining recognition after an impressive Ligue 1 campaign. His inclusion meant there was no room for Lucas Chevalier, who lost his starting role at Paris Saint-Germain to Matvei Safonov earlier this year.

Before heading to their World Cup training base in Boston, France are scheduled to play warm-up matches against Ivory Coast and Northern Ireland. Their Group I campaign begins against Senegal on June 16, followed by matches against Iraq on June 22 and Norway on June 26.

Other high-profile omissions include Tottenham forward Randal Kolo Muani and Rennes striker Esteban Lepaul, who finished as Ligue 1’s top scorer this season. Meanwhile, Jean-Philippe Mateta was recalled despite missing the March friendlies while recovering from a knee injury. He is expected to help cover for the absence of Hugo Ekitike, who has been ruled out with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

The tournament is also expected to mark Deschamps’ final World Cup in charge of France. The manager led Les Bleus to World Cup glory in 2018 and is widely tipped to hand over the reins to French icon Zinedine Zidane after the competition. France had previously won the trophy on home soil in 1998.

Shardul Thakur discusses Hardik Pandya’s prolonged absence amid trade rumors

Shardul Thakur has responded to the growing speculation over Hardik Pandya’s future at Mumbai Indians by quashing rumors of the MI captain’s transfer after the team’s six-wicket win over Punjab Kings on May 14.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Shardul said that social media talk should largely be limited to social media and clarified that Hardik is currently unavailable due to injury.

Shardul said, “There is a lot of talk on social media. Some are true and some are false. But in the end it is the team management that takes the decision.”

PBKS vs MI: highlighted | Achievement:

Hardik did not accompany the team to Dharamshala for the Punjab clash and has now missed Mumbai’s last three matches in the Indian Premier League 2026 season.

The MI captain’s absence has fueled rumors of unrest within the franchise, with speculation that Hardik could be traded to Chennai Super Kings. The news and fan conversations have intensified regarding the alleged close relationship between CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan and former India captain MS Dhoni.

Hardik has also been linked with franchises like Delhi Capitals after Mumbai’s disappointing season.

However, Shardul insisted that the all-rounder’s absence was entirely injury-related and revealed that Hardik was currently undergoing rehabilitation in Mumbai.

“If we talk about Hardik Pandya specifically, he had an injury and did not travel with the team. He traveled to Raipur, but he was not able to play there. He is now in Mumbai training. I am hopeful that he will return to action in Kolkata and play games.”

“We always miss a player of his caliber when he doesn’t play,” he said.

Mumbai will face Kolkata Knight Riders on May 20 at Eden Gardens.

Hardik has faced a lot of difficulties IPL 2026 campaign as both captain and player. This season he has scored only 146 runs with the bat at a strike rate of 136, while with the ball he has taken only four wickets at an average of 61.

Despite the absence of Hardik Pandya and vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav on Thursday. Mumbai Indians managed to defeat Punjab Kings by 6 wickets. While chasing the target of 201 runs, Tilak Verma stood up and gave victory to the team by hitting a powerful six on the last ball.

Italian Open: Jannik Sinner unbeaten, overtakes Novak Djokovic to set Masters world record before French Open

Jannik Sinner has reached a new level in men’s tennis, producing a season of consistent dominance that has now seen him overtake Novak Djokovic’s long-standing Masters 1000 record. The World No. 1 extended his winning streak at Masters events to a record-breaking 32 consecutive wins, surpassing Djokovic’s previous best of 31 and overtaking legends like Roger Federer (29) and Rafael Nadal (23) in the all-time standings.

The milestone came during his latest surge in Rome, where Sinner defeated Andrey Rublev to book a place in the Italian Open semi-finals. They needed just one hour and 31 minutes to win the quarter-finals 6–2, 6–4 at the Campo Central on Thursday, 14 May.

After the win, Sinner reiterated that he does not chase records but focuses on his journey. He stressed recovery as the top priority before their next match, highlighting the emotional challenge of competing on home soil and calling it a “win-win” day after a strong performance.

“I don’t play for records. I just play for my story. Also it means a lot to me, but there is another opponent tomorrow. We will play in different conditions. It will be a night match. Let’s see. The top priority for me now is to try to recover as much as possible physically.”

“We’ll see how it goes. Emotionally, it takes a lot of time playing here on home ground. At the same time, I’ll definitely try to do my best. We’ll see how it goes. Either way it’s a win-win situation for me in any case. Today was a good day,” he said.

How the papacy brought down Rublev

From the start, Sinner dictated the game with deep, heavy groundstrokes that pushed Rublev back from the baseline. The Russian attempted to impose himself with his trademark forehand power, but Sinner’s defensive excellence and ability to redirect momentum consistently neutralized the threat. The key moments came on the return, where Sinner repeatedly targeted Rublev’s second serve to create early break opportunities.

Once in control, the sinner never let go. He disrupted Rublev’s rhythm with depth, variation and sharp angles, leading to errors from the backhand wing. Even when Rublev tried to increase the aggression in the second set, Sinner’s efficiency on the first serve and ability to make cool decisions under pressure kept him firmly ahead.

The victory moved Sinner closer to a rare milestone, career Golden Masters, achieved by winning all nine ATP Masters 1000 events. He is now just two wins away from becoming the second player in history behind Djokovic to complete that set, further underscoring the scale of his dominance on the ATP Tour.

New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings South African all-rounder Dianne Forrester has been brought in as a replacement for jamie overton For the remainder of IPL 2026, after the England international was ruled out due to a right thigh injury.CSK confirmed the move on Thursday, a day after announcing that Overton would return to the UK for further assessment and management. “Diane Forrester has joined the team in place of Jamie Overton,” the franchise posted on social media.

CSK’s injury problems have increased due to Overton’s exclusion.

Overton had emerged as one of the most influential foreign players for CSK this season. This all-rounder played an important role with the new ball and in the lower middle order, taking 14 wickets and scoring 136 runs in 10 matches. His departure is another blow to a team already struggling with injuries. CSK had earlier signed McNeil Noronha as a replacement for injured all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh, while several first-choice players have missed parts of the campaign. The five-time champions also had to play without Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson for a long time, while former captain MS Dhoni has not been able to play so far this season due to a calf problem.

Who is Dianne Forrester?

Forrester comes to South Africa with a strong domestic record and experience in five T20Is. A left-handed batsman and right-arm fast bowler, the 24-year-old has scored over 1,000 first-class runs at an average above 45 and an average of over 50 in List A cricket. In T20s, he has scored 681 runs at a strike rate of over 140, making him an all-round option for CSK as they strive for a playoff spot.CSK’s next challenge is against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on May 15, with the franchise hoping Forrester will quickly plug the latest gap in their injury-ravaged team.

FIFA World Cup: Madonna, Shakira and BTS to headline halftime show before final

FIFA confirmed on Thursday that global music icons Madonna, Shakira and K-pop supergroup BTS will lead the first halftime show during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Finals at MetLife Stadium on July 19.

The historic show, curated by Chris Martin, marks a significant change in the presentation of FIFA’s showpiece event, bringing the World Cup final closer to the entertainment spectacle associated with the Super Bowl in the United States.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the line-up via social media, saying that the performance would unite “music, football and a shared commitment to improving the lives of children around the world”.

“The FIFA World Cup 2026 Final halftime show will be a truly special moment,” Infantino said, confirming that the event will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to expand access to education and football for children around the world.

The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, will run from June 11 to July 19 and will feature 48 teams for the first time. FIFA expanded the tournament to 104 matches from the previous 64, while introducing an additional knockout round.

The inclusion of a halftime concert during the final may also extend the traditional 15-minute interval, although FIFA has not yet confirmed the exact duration of the break.

Halftime entertainment has long been a staple of major American sporting events, especially the Super Bowl. Madonna previously headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in 2012, while Shakira performed with Jennifer Lopez in 2020.

FIFA already used the concept during last year’s Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium, where Chelsea won over Paris Saint-Germain with performances from Doja Cat, J Balvin and Thames.

The 2026 edition is expected to be the biggest World Cup in history, with matches spread across venues in the United States, Canada and Mexico before culminating in the final in New Jersey.

PBKS’s IPL 2026 playoff chances are under threat of rain! What will happen if MI vs match gets cancelled? cricket news

PBKS's IPL 2026 playoff chances are under threat of rain! What if MI vs match gets cancelled?
Rain threatens PBKS’s IPL 2026 playoff prospects (Image: IPL/BCCI)

face punjab kings Mumbai Indians It is important to win this match to strengthen their playoff hopes, but the threat of rain in Dharamshala during the match may affect the chances of Punjab Kings.Dharamshala weather forecast indicates a 55% to 60% chance of rain and storm for tonight’s match, making it possible for rain to interrupt or completely wash out the match. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for the Kangra Valley as the pre-match practice session at the HPCA Stadium has already been disrupted due to heavy rain and overcast skies. Punjab Kings are currently placed fourth with 13 points from 11 matches and a net run rate (NRR) of +0.428. they are closely followed Chennai Super Kings (+0.185 NRR) and Rajasthan Royals (+0.082 NRR), both have 12 points. If the IPL 2026 match in Dharamsala is abandoned due to rain, both teams will get one point each, resulting in a “no result”. However, with Mumbai Indians already mathematically out of the playoff race, points shared would have had very different results for both sides.

Watch

Madhav Tiwary of Delhi Capitals shows his brilliant all-round performance

What does this mean for Punjab Kings (PBKS)

A washout will take PBKS to 14 points, helping them maintain a slight lead over chasing teams like Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who are both currently on 12 points. However, the bigger concern for Punjab will be the impact on their top two hopes. If they win their remaining two matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants, their maximum possible points will be 18 if there is no result. This will significantly reduce their chances of finishing ahead of table-toppers RCB and Gujarat Titans, both of whom already have 16 points. This will also be Punjab’s second canceled game of the season, making them the only team in the current top four to rely on split points rather than an outright win.

What does this mean for Mumbai Indians (MI)

For Mumbai Indians, who are already out of the playoff race, a washout will mainly deny them the chance to play spoiler against their direct opponent in the playoff race. However, the single point will take MI slightly ahead of Lucknow Supergiants at the bottom of the table, which will help a bit in their attempt to avoid finishing at the bottom of the standings.

IPL 2026: RCB vs KKR | Virat Kohli’s double feat: When a human and a superman were seen in Raipur

He stuck one to his leg. Even one. One run. And Virat Kohli punches the air like he’s just won the World Cup.

A crowd gathered at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. People laughed. not on him, but with him. Because they understood. Because for once, the mask slipped enough to remind everyone that beneath the swagger and the centuries and the ice-cold chase finishes, there is a man. A very humanitarian man.

RCB vs KKR: highlighted | Achievement:

“I was nervous,” he would later admit. “I just wanted to get out in goal and just celebrate and have a little fun out there.”

Virat Kohli. nervous. About getting out of the way.

That line is worth sitting with for a moment, because it’s both extraordinary and completely ordinary at the same time.

He went down under the weight of back-to-back ducks, against LSG, against MI, which was his most barren stretch. IPL 2026 season. Whispers had started. Was the form weakening at a crucial juncture? Were the ducks a sign of something else?

At the crease, commentator Ian Bishop was hawking it ball-by-ball: “Can he take a run, can he take a run?”

Then debutant Saurabh Dubey, the same fast bowler who was swinging the ball both ways and had already unsettled Jacob Bethel, lofted one inside and Kohli calmly tucked it down the leg side and moved on quickly. One run. A fist pump. A tremendous roar.

This moment went viral within minutes. But what happened next told the real story.

He scored 105 runs.

Undefeated. On 60 balls. His ninth IPL century. In pursuit. On a pitch on which it was not easy to bat. Against a KKR attack that had won four consecutive games.

His teammates predict

Two days before the match, Kohli’s RCB teammate Krunal Pandya had said something which raised some eyebrows at that time.

After his match-winning innings against Mumbai Indians, Pandya had said about Kohli: “First of all sir, Virat Kohli is a champion player. If he doesn’t score runs in two matches, I actually get more excited because you know Virat Kohli is going to come back strongly. He has a huge hunger inside him. He is a different animal, isn’t he?”

It sounded like a conversation between loyal teammates. In the end, it was a prophecy.

Because here’s the thing about Kohli: the ducks didn’t break him. They fueled it.

“Pressure is a privilege,” Kohli said after the match.

“It really keeps you humble, keeps you focused, makes you work hard again in practice. Some games that don’t go your way, you start feeling a little nervous again. It helps you go out there and work on your game and support yourself even more… And at the end of the day, when you look back, those failures are very important because they bring you back to where you got the performance in the first place.”

And then there was this: Not scoring eats at him. It bothers him. For a man who walks onto the crease like he owns it, who has made the impossible routine for two decades, these are shockingly raw words. But this is exactly the point. The composure you see at the crease is not a lack of emotion. That feeling, compressed and redirected, is transmitted in the footwork, in the shot selection, in that fist pump for a single that can say more than any century celebration.

Was he out of form?

What was remarkable about this innings was that it did not look like someone searching for form. He did not move forward to prove his point. He played his tune. He found his flaws. They made the chase seem like clockwork.

In the powerplay, he systematically dismantled Vaibhav Arora, picking up the gaps with surgical precision. RCB lost Jacob Bethel early, but Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal stitched a solid 92-run partnership that broke the back of KKR’s bowling.

When Padikkal was out on 39, captain Rajat Patidar came in – just then a bouncer from Karthik Tyagi hit his helmet. Patidar, naturally, slowed down in search of rhythm. Kohli read it quickly and took the responsibility upon himself, charging through the middle overs without any fuss, without any flourish, as if he had simply decided that he had to finish it off.

Then came the shot of the match, a moment that only a player of his experience could have done. In the 14th over, facing left-arm spinner Anukul Roy, Kohli suffered a slight blow to the flight but remained completely composed, waited and blasted the ball over the bowler’s head for six runs. He could barely follow. The ball still went into the stands. That is not technology. It is accumulated knowledge, distilled into one quick moment.

In the very next over, he showed the other side – pure wrist, pure power – smashing Tyagi’s full delivery into the mid-wicket stand. Wickets kept falling around him, but Kohli stood firm till the end. Eleven fours, three sixes. The remaining 43 runs came the old fashioned way: hard running between the wickets. 36 hrs. In the heat of Raipur.

Padikkal, who had the best vantage point for most of the innings, candidly said after the game: “I had the best seat in the house tonight. Some of the shots he played were remarkable. It’s never easy coming into this game after being out for ducks twice. And he showed why he is who he is. To not have that game in your mind and go out there and bat the way he does is incredible.”

Kohli is currently 36 years old. He has retired from Test cricket and T20I. He retreats from his hard work and lives in London to spend time with his family. When he comes for the IPL or India’s ODIs, it’s a conscious, deliberate choice – and he brings everything with him when he does.

Before Wednesday, there were real questions about whether he would be able to score more than 600 runs for a fourth consecutive IPL season – a streak that speaks to consistency almost no one in the history of the tournament can match. With 105 more games still to go in Raipur, he is firmly back in the race for the Orange Cap, and that streak is alive.

Virat Kohli is going through a period of doubt. He feels the pressure. He gets scared of one run. And then he scored a century and broke the record of the fastest player to score 14,000 T20 runs.

Human and supernatural. Sometimes in the same over.

That is Virat Kohli. He has always been Virat Kohli.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi finds new fan in Kagiso Rabada: ‘Not afraid at all’ cricket news

Vaibhav Suryavanshi finds new fan in Kagiso Rabada: 'Not afraid at all'
Vaibhav Suryavanshi (ANI)

South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada Vaibhav has become the latest global star to be astounded by Suryavanshi’s fearless batting, with Gujarat Titans quick to acknowledge that Rajasthan Royals The teen has a rare combination of strength, confidence and natural flair. Rabada, who has been one of the standout fast bowlers of IPL 2026 with 21 wickets, found himself on target with the 15-year-old sensation during Gujarat Titans’ clash against Rajasthan Royals earlier this season. Suryavanshi displayed a fearless display and hit two consecutive sixes off Rabada, once again cementing his growing reputation as one of the most destructive young batsmen in world cricket.

The teenager has already grabbed headlines this season for taking on top bowlers without any hesitation Jasprit BumrahJosh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Against Gujarat, Siraj was also hit for a six off the first ball as Suryavanshi continued his astonishing run of form. Speaking to PTI, Rabada admitted that he has been impressed by the mentality and fearless approach of the young player at such a young age. “He’s a great talent. He’s got very quick hands. He’s fearless at the moment. There’s not the slightest fear in his body. That’s usually what happens when you’re young, it’s really fascinating. I think it’s great to see it in the game of cricket, in the IPL. It’s great to see the game well and truly alive. Who else will come and grab that kind of headlines? Let’s wait and see,” said the South African quick. Despite the publicity surrounding Suryavanshi, Rabada said that as a bowler, his mindset while bowling remains the same. “What I’m thinking about is just having another batsman. And try to be better than him. It’s almost like a bit of talent. He’s definitely an X-factor player. Someone who is bringing attention to the game. fantastic. Really fast hands. No fear. It’s a wonderful combination,” he added. Rabada himself has been in peak form this season, consistently touching 150 kmph while forming one of the most dangerous new ball pairings in the IPL with Mohammed Siraj. The pair have troubled the batting line-up throughout the powerplay phase, with Rabada consistently generating sharp bounce and seam movement through the length of the test-match. The 30-year-old has now crossed the 20-wicket mark in an IPL season for the fourth time in his career, although he insisted he does not focus too much on individual achievements. “I feel like coming into a season, no matter what team you’re playing for, this time it’s Gujarat, I feel like I’m just going to try my best here and I’m going to leave it here. And whatever the result is, the result will be the same,” he said. Reflecting on his partnership with Siraj, Rabada said that their chemistry has evolved naturally over the course of the season. “I think it’s building a partnership and that’s pretty much it. He’s got a job to do and I’ve got a job to do. I think we’ve got some bonding off the field as well but it’s not really anything planned. “We figure out that we’re bowling together and we try to fulfill that role to the best of our ability. There’s no real magic recipe,” he explained.
