Always feeling tired even after full sleep? Doctor Says It Could Be Your Cells’ Energy System: Here’s How To Fix It Naturally

Mitochondrial fatigue is a lesser known reason behind persistent low energy.

There are days when sleep is complete, food is on time, yet the body aches. The mind slows down and even small tasks seem more burdensome than necessary. This type of fatigue is often attributed to stress or age. But science is indicating otherwise in terms of how well the body produces energy at the cellular level.Inside every cell there are small structures called mitochondria. They convert food and oxygen into useful energy. When this system begins to falter, the result is not dramatic illness, but a steady drain. That persistent low energy has a name: mitochondrial fatigue.

What exactly is Mitochondrial Fatigue?

Dr. Ravindra Srivastava explains it simply, “Most people are always tired despite adequate sleep. The main cause of this persistent fatigue is stress or a busy lifestyle, yet an unknown cause may be mitochondrial fatigue. Mitochondria are tiny structures located within our cells that can be considered powerhouses because they help our body generate the energy needed to perform its functions. When these giants fail to perform effectively, the body will be unable to produce enough energy and will also experience constant fatigue.”To put it bluntly, it’s not like the body is running out of fuel. This is the body struggling to convert fuel into energy efficiently.

Tiredness

It starts at the cellular level, often driven by lifestyle habits. Symptoms are subtle but affect daily life.

Signs people often ignore

This form of fatigue rarely manifests as an overt medical condition. It blends into everyday life, which is why it goes unnoticed.Dr. Srivastava says, “Mitochondrial fatigue does not necessarily manifest clearly and that is why it is usually neglected. Symptoms such as chronic fatigue, brain fog, lack of stamina, muscle weakness and poor concentration are common. Other individuals may also have frequent headaches or feel tired even with light exercise. Such symptoms can impact daily productivity and general quality of life. These signs often appear gradually. A missed deadline here, a forgotten detail there, or routine tasks requiring more effort, over time, they add up.

What unbalances mitochondria?

Energy production depends on a constant supply of nutrients, oxygen, and rest. When daily habits disrupt that balance, mitochondria feel the stress.Dr. Srivastava explains, “There are many lifestyle factors that can affect the functioning of mitochondria. Unhealthy eating habits, inadequate physical exercise, stress, lack of sleep and too much screen time can reduce the efficiency of energy production in the body. Additionally, pollution and certain medical conditions can also contribute. These factors can ultimately slow down the body’s natural energy system.research from National Institutes of Health This highlights how oxidative stress damages mitochondrial function over time. These are not sudden changes. They build up slowly, often unnoticed.

Why does modern life make it worse?

The body was designed for cycles, activity and rest, daylight and darkness. Today’s daily routine disrupts that rhythm.Late night scrolling, irregular meals, processed food and constant mental stress create a mismatch between what the body expects and what it gets. Over time, this mismatch affects the way the mitochondria function. The result is not a dramatic illness, but a quiet recession. Drops in energy become the new normal, and people begin to adjust their expectations rather than question the cause.

Tiredness

The solution is not a quick fix, but consistent changes in diet, sleep, activity, and stress management.

Can energy be restored from within?

The exciting thing is that mitochondria are responsive. When circumstances improve, they adapt.Dr. Srivastava explains, “The positive news is that in most cases, mitochondrial health improves with simple lifestyle changes. A healthy diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, and whole foods is a good source of nutrients that are essential for energy production. Exercise such as brisk walking, although it may be so simple, can be used to increase the functioning of cells. It is also important to get 7-8 hours of quality sleep, rest and manage stress by using relaxation strategies, and staying hydrated.Even small changes matter. A 20-minute walk, consistent bedtime, and balanced meals can begin to reset energy patterns.

Prevention is not complicated, but consistent

There is no single solution. The focus shifts from quick growth to stable habits.Eat foods that are close to their natural formMove daily, even if gentlyPrioritize sleep as a non-negotiable taskReduce frequent screen exposure, especially at nightCreate moments of pause during the dayEnergy drinks and caffeine may provide temporary relief, but they do not fix the underlying process.

The big picture: small changes, lasting impact

Dr. Srivastava puts it clearly, “Instead of using short-term solutions like caffeine or energy drinks, you should think about forming some long-term habits that will keep your body nourished down to the cellular level. If fatigue does not improve even after lifestyle changes, it is advisable to visit a doctor and get checked. Knowledge of mitochondrial fatigue may enable individuals to have greater control over their energy needs and live a more active, healthy lifestyle. There is a quiet shift that occurs when the energy comes back. Focus is sharpened, mood is stabilized and daily life feels less like effort and more like flow.Medical experts consultedThis article includes expert inputs shared with TOI Health:Dr. Ravindra Srivastava, Senior Consultant – Neurosciences, Shardacare-Healthcity.The input was used to explain how persistent low energy may be linked to underlying mitochondrial function and metabolic imbalances, and to highlight the importance of medical guidance before using supplements or natural alternatives to overcome fatigue.

‘I have nothing left’: Indian-origin man who lost wife, daughter in Air India crash to face deportation from UK

'I have nothing left': Indian-origin man who lost wife, daughter in Air India crash to face deportation from UK

Nearly a year after the devastating Air India Flight 171 crash took the lives of his wife and two-year-old daughter, a 28-year-old Indian-origin man is now fighting a new battle – to remain in the United Kingdom.Mohammadia Sethwala, originally from Vadodara, Gujarat, was informed by the UK Home Office on April 9 that his application to remain in the country on compassionate grounds had been rejected.Authorities have kept him on immigration bail until April 22 and have directed him to leave Britain after that.Sethwala had moved to the UK in 2022 on a dependent visa to join his wife Sadiqa, who was studying International Business Management. The couple later settled in Rugby, where she had secured employment and was on her way to obtaining a work permit, a move that would have secured their future in Britain. That future was suddenly shattered on June 12, 2025, when an Ahmedabad-London flight crashed moments after takeoff, killing Sadiqa and her baby Fatima.

“I have nothing left”

Recalling his ordeal, Sethwala said that on the day of the accident he was working the morning shift so that he could pick up his family from the airport. Speaking to The Sun, he said: “I thought it would be a different plane… It couldn’t be theirs, but it was.”This tragedy not only took away his family, but also took away his basis for legal stay in Britain. His dependent visa expired earlier this year, and subsequent attempts to secure a new visa or employment sponsorship have failed.Struggling with grief and mental health problems, Sethwala says returning to India is not an option he can bear emotionally. He told The Sun, “I have nothing left… I won’t be able to escape my grief by coming back home. But here I can start to move forward.”

legal battle

Sethwala’s legal team is preparing to challenge the Home Office’s decision in a UK court, seeking to lift the immigration bail order. If successful, this may allow him to apply afresh for the visa. His case has been criticized by activists and migrant rights groups, who argue that leniency should be exercised in exceptional humanitarian circumstances. However, the Home Office has said that all applications are assessed strictly in accordance with existing immigration rules.

A life stopped in the middle of a dream

After returning to India briefly after the accident, Sethwala began rebuilding his life in London with the support of relatives and a close-knit community, friends say.The Air India Flight 171 crash remains one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent years, killing passengers, crew and people on the ground after the Boeing 787-8 plane crashed into a medical hostel building and burst into flames.

Motivational Quote of the Day by Tim Cook: ‘Let your happiness lie in your journey – not in some distant goal’

Motivational Quote of the Day by Tim Cook: 'Let your happiness lie in your journey – not in some distant goal'
Chasing future achievements often leads to a life of waiting and neglect of the present. The article emphasizes on finding joy in the journey, not just the destination. By appreciating small victories and learning from challenges, individuals can experience a more meaningful and fulfilling life rather than constantly postponing happiness.

There is something really calming about this line. It doesn’t yell at you. It doesn’t promote a hustle culture or ask you to chase success as if your life depends on it. Instead, it quietly shifts your attention – from where you’re going to how you’re getting there. And honestly, this is something that most of us forget. We have become accustomed to living for “the next thing.” Next promotion. Next relationship. Next milestone. There will always be times when that happens, I will be happy. But what Tim Cook is saying here is simple: If your happiness is always tied to something distant, you will spend most of your life waiting.

We’re trained to chase the finish line

Think about it. From a young age we are taught to focus on results.Study hard → get good markswork hard → get a good jobsave money → buy a houseContinue → Make It SomedayThere is always a finish line. And yes, goals are important. They give direction. They push you forward. But somewhere along the way we start believing that only the end result matters. Everything else simply becomes a struggle we have to “overcome.”This is where the problem starts.Because life is not just about big wins. It’s made up mostly of short, simple days.If you don’t find joy in them, you are basically wasting most of your life.

Travel is where life really happens

Let’s break it down in the simplest way possible. The “goal” is just a moment.“Journey” is everything beyond that. The job you want? Interviews, learning, failures – that’s the journey. The relationship you dream of? Conversation, growth, understanding – this is the journey.Even something as basic as getting fit – the workouts, the discipline, the days when you don’t feel like showing up – that’s the journey. And here’s the truth: Once you reach a goal, happiness doesn’t last forever. You celebrate, you feel good… and then what? You move on to the next goal.So if you keep putting off happiness until “later,” you are constantly pushing happiness further away.

Why does enjoying the process change everything?

When you start enjoying travelling, things start seeming lighter. You’re not just working – you’re learning. You’re not just struggling – you’re growing. You’re not just waiting – you’re living. This does not mean that everything becomes easy. It just means that everything becomes meaningful.

Quote of the day by Apple CEO Tim Cook (Image source: Wikipedia)

Quote of the day by Apple CEO Tim Cook (Image source: Wikipedia)

Even the hard days feel different. Because instead of thinking, “Why is this happening to me?” You start thinking, “What is this teaching me?”That change is powerful.

It’s not about being happy all the time

Let’s be real for a second.Enjoying travel doesn’t mean you’ll wake up every day feeling inspired and positive. Life doesn’t work like this. There will be days when you feel tired, frustrated, even defeated. But the idea is not to view those days as “wasted” or “in the way.” They are also part of this process.Development is messed up. Progress is slow. And sometimes traveling seems boring. But if you can find even small moments of joy – like completing a task, learning something new, or just showing up – then you’re already doing it right.

An easy way to understand it

Think of it like a journey.Imagine you are planning a trip and saying, “I will be happy only after reaching the destination.”Sounds weird, right?Because the whole point of traveling is the experience – the sights, the food, the people, the random moments.Life also works like this.If you only care about “getting somewhere,” you miss everything in between.

Social media makes it more difficult

Let’s be honest – it’s hard to maintain this mindset today. We are constantly looking at other people’s “end results” online.Someone got promoted.Someone bought a house.Someone got married.Someone has “made it.”And this creates pressure. Like you’re behind. Like your trip wasn’t good enough. But what you don’t see is their process. Struggles, failures, doubts. So you start comparing your behind-the-scenes footage to someone else’s highlight reel. And that’s a losing game.

How to Really Enjoy Your Trip (Without Overthinking)

You don’t need major life changes. Just small changes:Slow down a little – no need to rush into everythingFocus on small wins – A task accomplished? showed? he mattersStop waiting for “perfect” moments – they rarely comeBe present – even boring moments matterGive yourself credit – you’re doing better than you think

Tim Cook

The move comes after several US-based tech giants suspended their services in the country.

It’s not about becoming super-mindful overnight. It’s about being a little more mindful in your everyday life.

The deeper meaning of this quote

What Tim Cook is actually saying is this:Don’t put your happiness on hold.Because if you do, you’ll always be chasing something. And the chase never really ends. But when you learn to enjoy where you are – even if it’s not perfect – you feel more grounded. More peacefully. You stop rushing through life… and start actually living it.There will always be goals. New ones will keep coming. But your journey? This is what is happening right now.In small moments. In effort. The days in between may not seem “big” but they still matter. So don’t wait for some distant finish line to feel happy.Find something – anything – in your day that makes you feel good. Even if it is small.Because at the end of the day, life isn’t about where you end up.It’s about how you lived while you got there.

The US military released a video on Monday showing a machine gunner in a helicopter warning a cargo ship to turn back if detected near Iranian ports, as the US military continues a maritime blockade amid escalating tensions with Iran.Footage shared by United States Central Command on“This is United States Warship 115. You are entering a military blockade area. This blockade of Iranian ports will be enforced and will apply to all ships regardless of flag,” the radio warning in the video said.“Any vessel intending to enter or exit an Iranian port will be subject to the right to search and search in accordance with international law. If you attempt to escape [from] Blockade We will force compliance with force. Above.”Centcom said US forces have directed 27 ships to turn away or return to Iranian ports since the blockade of ships entering or exiting Iranian coastal areas began. The military footage comes as maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has once again been disrupted amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran.Shipping in the strategic narrow chokepoint has become increasingly restricted, according to vessel tracking data cited by AFP, with both sides imposing separate blockades that have complicated commercial movement through the Gulf region.Iran briefly announced the reopening of the strategic waterway, but the United States did not ease sanctions on ships passing through Iranian ports. Dozens of ships passed through the strait during the brief opening, before Tehran later warned that any approaching ship would be treated as a target and the route would be closed again.Since then, only a few ships have succeeded in crossing. Maritime tracking firm Kpler said only four ships had passed in either direction since Sunday. Among them was the Iranian-flagged Nova Crest, which is under US sanctions and was seen leaving the Gulf and transiting the Gulf of Oman.US enforcement of the blockade is usually implemented when ships approach Iran’s maritime border with Pakistan. Several ships have reportedly been ordered to divert or turn back, including tankers and container ships tracked in the area.Meanwhile, Iran has also moved to claim control of the strait, with incidents involving ships flagged by different countries increasing tensions in the busy shipping lane. Some ships have reported damage or been forced to divert course amid the disruptions.Tracking data also indicates that hundreds of commercial vessels remain active in the Gulf despite the restrictions, with traffic through one of the world’s most important energy corridors continuing but disrupted. The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) also released footage on Monday showing a maritime operation in which US Marines boarded the Iranian-flagged container ship Touska in the Gulf of Oman. Video shared by CENTCOM on The footage captures the tactical sequence as crews disembark from the aircraft and safely access the ship amid tight surveillance of commercial shipping lanes in the area.Iran’s Hazrat Khatam al-Anbiya military headquarters later confirmed the incident, calling it an attack on an Iranian commercial ship in the Sea of Oman, and Tehran accused the US of “violating the ceasefire and committing piracy” by attacking and firing at the ship, confirming that the ship had been seized. Following the incident, the Iranian military issued a warning of retaliation, saying, “We warn that the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will soon respond to this armed robbery of the US military and will retaliate,” further escalating tensions between the two countries, which have been in conflict since February 28 and are currently under a fragile ceasefire.
