IIT-Madras Swayam Plus launches 3 AI courses as learner count crosses 5.5 lakh

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology Madras-led digital learning platform SWAYAM Plus has launched three new beginner-friendly artificial intelligence (AI) courses under its ‘AI for All’ campaign, expanding access to foundational AI skills as the platform completes two years of operations.The courses – AI for Aspiring Engineers, AI for Administrators and Prompt Engineering – have been developed in partnership with the IITM promoter. They are designed for learners with no prior coding or AI background and focus on practical, real-world applications across all domains.The course was launched by IIT-M Director V Kamakoti on Friday to mark the second anniversary of the platform, which brought together representatives from government, industry, academia and the learner community, and also recognized key partners and top performing learners.Registrations for all three courses are currently open on the SWAYAM Plus portal, with the closing date set for May 10, 2026.Among the offerings, AI for Aspiring Engineers aims to equip students transitioning from school to engineering with foundational knowledge of Python, AI, and machine learning using engineering datasets. The course costs Rs 500 plus GST.AI for Administrators is targeted at management professionals, focusing on decision making using AI, machine learning and generative AI tools. Its price is Rs 100 plus GST.The Prompt Engineering course introduces learners to effectively interacting with AI systems to generate accurate outputs, and is also priced at Rs 100 plus GST.Highlighting the growth of the platform, SWAYAM Plus coordinator and IIT-M dean (planning) R Sarathi said the education ministry-backed initiative has expanded rapidly since its launch.He said, “Swayam Plus… has successfully completed two years. Since its inception, the platform has grown significantly, now hosting over 500 online courses across more than 15 sectors… To date, over 5.50 lakh learners have registered,” he said.The ‘AI for All’ campaign, launched in May 2025, has already received strong support. The first batch of five introductory AI courses garnered more than 42,000 registrations, while the second batch, which included a course for teachers, attracted more than 50,000 learners.The platform continues to focus on employment-oriented digital learning in line with the national framework, with select courses providing credit recognition and academic recognition by IIT Madras.
