Hunter becomes prey: 75-year-old millionaire trophy hunter crushed to death by five elephants while hunting. world News

The hunter became the prey: 75-year-old millionaire trophy hunter was crushed to death by five elephants during hunting.

A 75-year-old American millionaire, known for hunting wild animals across continents, has died after a sudden encounter with a herd of elephants in Central Africa. Ernie Dosio, an experienced trophy hunter and vineyard owner from California, was on an expedition in Gabon when the incident occurred. While tracking a rare antelope in a dense forest, he and his professional guide unexpectedly come across a group of elephants. Within seconds, the situation turned fatal as the animals attacked, crushing Dosio and seriously injuring his guide.

How five elephants attacked a 75-year-old trophy hunter

The attack reportedly occurred in dense rainforest near Lop-Okanda National Park, where visibility is low and wildlife can appear without warning. Dosio and his guide were tracking the elusive yellow-backed duiker, a rare forest antelope, when they inadvertently walked into a herd of five forest elephants. Hidden by dense vegetation, the animals were not seen until it was too late.According to people familiar with the incident, the elephant, which was a female with a calf, reacted immediately and attacked as soon as it felt threatened. The professional hunter accompanying Dosio was attacked first, thrown aside and injured during the initial attack. In the confusion, he lost his rifle in the bushes, leaving Dosio with only one shotgun. The elephants then attacked Dosio and crushed him under their combined weight. The attack was believed to have been extremely swift, with little chance of survival once the herd got close.

Why can elephants become deadly?

The African forest elephant is one of the most powerful land animals on Earth, capable of weighing several tons and moving at astonishing speeds. Although often described as peaceful creatures, these animals can become highly aggressive when they feel threatened, especially when calves are present.Gabon is home to about 60 percent of the world’s remaining forest elephants, making encounters in its dense forests more likely. Experts estimate that elephants kill 300 to 500 people globally each year, usually in sudden, defensive attacks.

a lifetime of hunting

Dosio had spent decades traveling around the world hunting for big game, amassing an extensive collection of trophies that included species of lion, elephant, buffalo and deer. He was widely known in hunting circles in both the United States and Africa and was considered an experienced outdoorsman. At the time of his death, he was reportedly attempting to add the yellow-backed duiker, a challenging and sought-after species among hunters, to his collection.Friends and associates described him as a larger-than-life personality who was also deeply involved in charitable work, regularly supporting veterans and disadvantaged groups.Safari operator Collect Africa confirmed that a client died after encountering an elephant during a hunt, while the injured guide survived.

Peace talks resume? Trump sending envoy to Pakistan to meet Iran’s foreign minister; Vance on standby

Peace talks resume? Trump sending envoy to Pakistan to meet Iran's foreign minister; Vance on standby

In a renewed effort to revive talks amid rising regional tensions, the White House on Friday said US President Donald Trump is sending senior envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan later this week for crucial talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt said the administration is cautiously optimistic. “We hope this will be a productive conversation and hopefully get the ball rolling toward an agreement,” Levitt said in an interview on Fox News Channel. He said Vice President J.D. Vance would not travel for now but would remain “deeply involved” in the process. He said he would remain in the US with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the national security team on “standby” to go to Pakistan “if needed.”Vance is not planning to attend this round because Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf is also not attending. The White House views Ghalibaf as the head of the Iranian delegation and a counterpart to Vance, CNN reported, citing two officials.Meanwhile, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff have been in talks with Iranian officials for months, working toward a possible deal on Tehran’s nuclear program. The diplomatic initiative underlines Pakistan’s growing role as a facilitator. Islamabad is actively trying to bring Washington and Tehran back to the negotiating table after talks failed to resume as expected earlier this week.Earlier in the day, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency also confirmed that Araghchi was visiting Pakistan as part of a broader diplomatic tour that also includes Oman and Russia. On social media, the Iranian foreign minister said his visit would focus on “bilateral affairs and regional development.”Pakistan’s move comes after Trump agreed to indefinitely extend the ceasefire with Iran, a move reportedly taken at Islamabad’s request to allow more time for diplomacy.Despite these diplomatic initiatives, the situation on the ground remains volatile. The ongoing conflict has severely disrupted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery through which about a fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas passes during peacetime.Recent Iranian attacks on commercial ships and the continued US blockade of Iranian ports have increased tensions in the region. Trump has ordered the US military to take a tougher approach, including directing troops to “shoot and kill” small boats suspected of laying mines.Earlier, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also reiterated Washington’s stance, saying, “Iran has an important choice, a chance to make a deal, a good deal, a wise deal.” He further said a second US aircraft carrier would join the blockade in a few days, adding to an already robust deployment that includes the USS George HW Bush, USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald R Ford.According to US Central Command, the deployment now includes approximately 200 aircraft and 15,000 personnel, marking the first time since 2003 that three US carriers are operating together in the region. The talks are being seen as an important effort to revive stalled talks over Tehran’s nuclear program and ease tensions that have hit global markets. Brent crude, the international benchmark, is fluctuating between $103 and $107 a barrel, more than 50% above levels recorded before the conflict began in late February. In response to the supply shortage, the White House on Friday announced a 90-day extension of the Jones Act waiver, allowing non-US ships to more freely transport oil and natural gas to US ports. The extension, approved by Trump, builds on a 60-day waiver introduced in March to stabilize energy prices and ease shipments following disruptions caused by the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

New Delhi: Farewell of Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha Along with six other members, he has made significant changes in the composition of the Upper House, strengthening the ruling BJP-led NDA while sharply reducing the presence of the Aam Aadmi Party. The move has also shocked the opposition camp, whose numbers have dropped from 84 to 77 following the AAP split. After the merger of the MPs who broke away from AAP, the BJP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha has increased from 106 to 113, further strengthening its position in the House. The total number of members in the Upper House is 245.

“Right man, wrong party”: Raghav Chadha leaves AAP along with 6 MPs; End of Kejriwal’s Rajya Sabha power?

In contrast, AAP’s strength has dropped from 10 to just three. The development comes after Chadha along with fellow MPs Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal announced their decision to quit AAP and join BJP, triggering a widening split within the party. MPs including Swati Maliwal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta and Vikram Sawhney are also part of the group that supported the move. While announcing the decision, Chadha had sharply criticized his former party. He said, “The Aam Aadmi Party, which I nurtured with my blood and sweat and to which I gave 15 years of my youth, has now completely deviated from its principles, values and core morality. The party is no longer working in the interest of the country or national, but for personal gain.”He also said that this division had the support of most of the AAP MPs in the Upper House. “We have decided that we, two-thirds of the AAP members in the Rajya Sabha, will invoke the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP,” Chadha said.

NDA benefits, BJP’s position strengthened

With the addition of seven MPs, the BJP has further strengthened its position in the Rajya Sabha with 113 members. The broader National Democratic Alliance (NDA) continues to maintain a comfortable lead, with allies like the four-member Janata Dal (United) and the five-member AIADMK supporting the alliance.

AAP was reduced to just three MPs

For the AAP, the split has resulted in a dramatic decline in its parliamentary strength. The party now has only three MPs left: Sanjay Singh, ND Gupta and Balbir Singh Seechewal.Sanjay Singh, who remains the party’s most vocal face in Parliament, has strongly criticized the defectors, accusing them of division in the BJP. He alleged that central agencies were being used as part of a larger political strategy and termed the outgoing MPs as ‘traitors’.He said, “Operation Lotus is being carried out against the Punjab government… ED and CBI are being used to carry out this Operation Lotus… The people of Punjab will never forget these traitors.”

influence on opposition group

This change has also affected the opposition camp, of which AAP is a part. After the exit of seven MPs, the combined strength of the block in the Rajya Sabha has now come down to 77 members, which was earlier 84.The bloc is led by Congress (29 members), followed by Trinamool Congress (13) and DMK (8), along with parties like Samajwadi Party (4), CPI (M) (3), RJD (3), Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (3), CPI (2), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (2), IUML (2), NCP (4) and AAP (3).

a political turn

The development marks a major political turning point for the AAP, which has steadily built its presence in the Rajya Sabha in recent years. The sudden departure of two-thirds of the MPs not only affects its numerical strength but also raises questions on the internal unity within the party. For the BJP, this gain has further strengthened its position in the Upper House, giving it more space to pursue its legislative agenda with less reliance on outside support.

Trump says royal visit could help stabilize UK-US relations amid tensions

Donald Trump said the upcoming visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla could help ease tensions in relations between Washington and London, even as differences have emerged over trade, security and policy priorities. In response to a BBC phone interview, when asked if the trip could help improve relations, Trump struck an optimistic note, saying, “Absolutely. He is fantastic. He is a wonderful man. The answer to that is absolutely yes.” He said, “I know him well, I’ve known him for years.” He said, “He’s a brave man, and he’s a great man. They will certainly be positive.” According to British officials, the king and queen’s four-day US visit begins on Monday, with major events expected at the White House, including talks with Trump. A wide-ranging program is also likely to highlight the historic ties between the two countries, including cooperation on security and economic ties, as well as commemorations of 250 years of US independence. However, underlying tensions remain. Trump pointed to differences with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Tensions have also emerged over foreign policy, with Trump reiterating his call for expanded oil and gas drilling in the North Sea, particularly on immigration rules and energy policy, and threatening US tariffs unless Britain reconsiders its digital services tax on US tech companies. While the broadcaster has acknowledged an error, the royal visit is being seen in diplomatic circles as an opportunity to stabilize ties and re-establish ties between the two old allies.

UK social media influencer struggling with tax debts pleads guilty to ‘opportunistic’ theft of Jellycat toys world News

UK social media influencer struggling with tax debts pleads guilty to 'opportunistic' theft of Jellycat toys
British social media influencer Imogen Carroll was convicted of stealing Jellycat toys worth £160.

A British influencer has been convicted after stealing a set of popular Jellycat soft toys from a farm shop in Cheshire, a court heard, with the 26-year-old later telling police she was in tax debt when she carried out the theft. Imogen Carroll, of Biddulph, Staffordshire, admitted taking six plush toys worth £160 from the Lambing Shed in Knutsford. Proceedings at Crewe Magistrates Court were told the items were never recovered, the Daily Mail reports. CCTV footage shown in court showed Carroll walking around the shop several times before placing the toys in her bag. Prosecutor Gabrielle Harrison said she then picked up a packet of crisps and dip and paid for them, in what she described as an attempt to distract from the items she had already taken. Carroll is later arrested by the police. He initially denied the crime but changed his plea to guilty on the first day of the hearing after CCTV evidence was presented. During questioning, he said he owed money to HM Revenue and Customs, the UK government department responsible for collecting taxes, and described the evasion as “opportunistic”, saying he had succumbed to “temptation”. The court heard that she was on bail at the time of the incident and had six previous convictions covering 11 offences, six of which were for theft or attempted theft. In mitigation, her barrister Lee Yates said she was facing financial difficulties relating to a previous business, which had left her owing tax. “Debts to HMRC do not go away easily,” he told the court. He also said that he accepted that what he did was wrong and that he has not been hurt since 2019. Sentencing him, Chairman of the bench Alan Jones said: “You committed this offense while on police bail and you have some previous convictions.” Carroll was ordered to pay a fine of £162, which was reduced to £180 due to his guilty plea, as well as £265 in costs, a victim surcharge and £160 in compensation. The stolen goods were from Jellycat, a London-based brand founded in 1999 that has seen its popularity rise in recent years. The company now sells in 77 countries, with prices ranging from around £15 for small toys to £200 for larger designs. Some limited edition items have been known to sell for over £1,000 online, making them attractive targets for theft.

Fastest growing startup on the way to explode: Future tense for AAP as Raghav Chadha flees Rajya Sabha india news

Fastest growing startup on the way to explode: Future tense for AAP as Raghav Chadha exits Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal-led party faced one of the biggest internal shocks on Friday Raghav ChadhaAt one time, there was a massive exodus from Rajya Sabha to Bharatiya Janata Party due to its rising star and Kejriwal’s favorite boy.Raghav Chadha’s murmurs of dissent turned into a full-blown rebellion. Chadha didn’t just walk away, he also took with him a major chunk of AAP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha, pushing the party into one of its most serious crises since its birth in 2012.Raghav Chaddha’s rebellion has made AAP “injured”.The fissures, long hidden beneath the surface, came to the fore after Chadha was removed from the post of deputy leader in the Upper House, a post handed over to Ashok Mittal, who has since joined the rebellion.

-

The fastest-growing political startup, which formed three consecutive governments in Delhi, two of them with historic mandates, and later came to power in Punjab within just 15 years of its formation, is now facing internal dissent. Its own leaders are openly questioning “Kejriwal’s brand of politics” and accusing him of moving away from “honest politics” in the tone of rebellion. What’s next for AAP?

faces of rebellion

The exodus includes several high-profile names, including Swati Maliwal, who had already walked away from the party in 2024 after Vibhav Kumar accused him of physical assault at the official residence of then chief minister Kejriwal. The breakaway group also includes cricketer-turned-Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh as well as Sandeep Pathak, Rajinder Gupta and Vikramjit Singh Sahni, who add weight and visibility to the rebellion.

-

Standing before the media, Chadha reacted sharply, calling himself “the right man in the wrong party” before formally joining the party. BJP At its headquarters in New Delhi.

figures that shake the party

But the real shock is in the figures. In a surprise show of strength, six other AAP MPs have joined Chadha, taking the party’s total of 10 MPs to seven in the Rajya Sabha. For the Aam Aadmi Party, this is not just a rebellion; Due to this, his presence in the Upper House is almost going to end.Announcing the move, Chadha said that two-thirds of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MPs have decided to merge with the BJP.“We have decided that we, two-thirds of the AAP members in the Rajya Sabha, will exercise the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP,” he said at a press conference with Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal at the Constitution Club.Explaining his decision, Chadha accused the party of deviating from its founding ideals. He said, “AAP, whom I nurtured with my blood and sweat and gave 15 years of my youth, has deviated from its principles, values and core morality. Now this party works not in the interest of the country but for its personal gains… For the last few years, I was feeling that I was the right man in the wrong party. Therefore, today, we announce that I am distancing myself from AAP and coming closer to the public.”

-

Meanwhile, Kejriwal immediately reacted saying that the move was orchestrated by the BJP and said, “BJP has betrayed Punjabis again.”

From anti-corruption campaign to internal rebellion

The irony is hard to ignore. A party born out of Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement, which once promised to replace “traditional” politics with a model of “new politics”, is now being accused by its own leaders of abandoning those ideals. The outsider who challenged the system is now battling a rebellion from within that threatens to shake its foundations.

Delhi’s defeat: the turning point

Not long ago, the Kejriwal brigade suffered a defeat at the hands of the BJP in Delhi, dealing a major blow to AAP’s national prestige and influence.Limited to governing only Punjab under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and with limited presence in Parliament, AAP was already on the backfoot. Friday’s rebellion has further reduced its strength in the Rajya Sabha, deepening the crisis. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, AAP won only 3 seats in Punjab. Now with the revised Rajya Sabha numbers, AAP is left with a total of 6 MPs to raise their concerns in Parliament.

From meteoric rise to political decline

The twin shocks of 2025 and 2026, first the Delhi defeat and now this massive exodus, have pushed AAP to its weakest phase ever.Emerging from the anti-corruption wave, AAP positioned itself as a subversive, challenging the Congress establishment under the leadership of Manmohan Singh at the Center and under long-serving Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in Delhi. In its first election contest, AAP surprised the political class. Kejriwal ousted Sheila Dikshit from office, ending her 15-year rule and defeated her in the New Delhi constituency. This was followed by a tremendous increase – 67 seats out of 70 in 2015 and 62 seats in 2020.But by 2025 the tables have turned. The BJP made a comeback in Delhi after a drought of more than two decades, dangerously reducing AAP’s tally to 22 seats and appointing Rekha Gupta as chief minister.

disputes and cracks within

Announcing his exit, Chadha inserted himself squarely into the BJP narrative, taking aim at his former boss Kejriwal, and accusing AAP of prioritizing “personal gains” over “national interest”. His departure and the scale of support behind him have heightened those allegations.Over the years, the top leadership of AAP including Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay SinghAnd Satyendra Jain had to face investigation by agencies like ED and CBI. The prison sentences and investigations, although some subsequent court cases were weakened, tarnished the party’s anti-corruption image.Interestingly, Chadha remained largely away from these controversies. Even during Kejriwal’s stay in jail and his subsequent reprieve, he maintained a remarkable distance – giving rise to speculations of growing internal rifts. After the exit of Raghav Chadha and other rebel MPs Aam Aadmi PartyParty leader in Rajya Sabha Sanjay Singh led the charge and launched a scathing attack on the BJP, alleging that a coordinated effort was being made to weaken and destabilize the party through central agencies like ED and CBI.

-

Reacting strongly to the development, Singh said, “Bharatiya Janata Party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have started their ‘Operation Lotus’ to stop the good work of Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab. 7 of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MPs are joining BJP. People of Punjab should remember these 7 names. People will never forgive these ‘traitors’ of Punjab.”

Punjab: the next battlefield

Now the focus has shifted to Punjab.Chadha played a key role in AAP’s landslide victory in 2022, helping the party reach 92 seats out of 117, up from 20 seats in 2017. The victory ousted the Charanjit Singh Channi-led Congress government and installed AAP’s second full-time government after Delhi.

-

Now, with the exit of Chadha and several MPs associated with Punjab, cracks may start appearing.Meanwhile, Chief Minister and Kejriwal loyalist Bhagwant Mann hit back strongly, calling the departing leaders “traitors” and dismissing their prospects in the BJP. He also accused the BJP of trying to expand its presence in Punjab through defection.Still, the political equations are changing. Since Congress is still the main opposition and BJP has now got the support of former AAP faces, the contest may intensify. There is a special kind of political irony in this.Just as AAP had emerged by uprooting Congress from Delhi in 2013 to Punjab in 2022, similarly now BJP has defeated AAP in Delhi. Now the question is, is Punjab next for BJP?
