Israeli PM Netanyahu reveals cancer diagnosis; Had prostate surgery a year ago

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday he had undergone treatment for prostate cancer, as he released the results of his annual medical examination.Netanyahu, 76, said he delayed publication of the report by two months because he did not want it to be used as propaganda by Iran. He said, “I requested a two-month delay in its publication so that it would not be released at the height of the war, so as not to allow the terrorist regime in Iran to spread even more false propaganda against Israel.”The longest-serving leader in Israel’s history said he had surgery a year ago for an enlarged benign prostate. During a recent checkup, doctors found a very early stage malignant tumor with no spread or metastases. The Prime Minister’s Office also released two letters from his doctors along with the announcement, confirming the early stage of the disease. “This is an early detection of very small lesions with no metastasis, as all other tests have confirmed without a doubt,” one paper said.He did not say when the check-up occurred, but an Israeli source familiar with the matter told CNN that the cancer was discovered several months earlier. The source said that Netanyahu started radiation therapy about two and a half months ago and recently completed the treatment.“This stain has completely disappeared,” Netanyahu said.“Thank God, I am healthy,” he said. “I had a minor medical problem with my prostate which was completely treated.”The revelations come as Netanyahu is expected to visit the White House in the coming weeks, as efforts continue to secure a long-term peace deal in the conflict with Iran. Meanwhile, a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon has been extended for three weeks after fighting linked to Hezbollah.
