Dharwad: : A land dispute near the IIIT campus on the outskirts of Dharwad turned violent on Tuesday when bodyguards of a real estate businessman allegedly opened fire, injuring a youth in the leg.The incident took place over three acres of land belonging to a Hubli-based real estate businessman. According to police sources, the businessman arrived at the site with supporters on Tuesday to start the layout development after neighboring landholders raised objections. An argument reportedly broke out between the two groups, with residents insisting that the land be officially surveyed before any development work could begin. However, supporters of the businessman argued that a court had already ruled in his favor and there was no need for a fresh survey.As the confrontation intensified, the bodyguards accompanying the businessman reportedly fired eight rounds – seven in the air and one towards the ground – in an attempt to disperse the crowd.During the firing, a bullet hit the leg of local resident Vitthal Valikar, 24, due to which he got minor injuries. He was shifted to a private hospital for treatment.Vidyagiri police have registered the case and started investigation. Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar visited the spot and gathered information about the incident.
