'To divide West Bengal': Mamata claims Center trying to 'divide the state into three' through delimitation

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday accused the Center of carrying out the delimitation exercise to divide the state into three parts.Addressing election rallies in Chhatna and Onda in West Bengal’s Bankura district, Mamata said parts of West Bengal could be merged into Bihar and Odisha, and Bengalis living in those areas would face difficulties as a result.

Mamata said, “BJP is planning to bring a delimitation bill to divide West Bengal into three parts. It can merge some parts of West Bengal with Bihar or Odisha and commit atrocities on Bengalis there.”Mamata also alleged that the BJP has made a deal worth Rs 1,000 crore to remove the Trinamool Congress from power in the state. He made an apparent reference to a viral video of Aam Janata Unnayan Party chief Humayun Kabir, in whom he was reportedly heard saying that he was in close touch with BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, to remove Mamata from power and that he had received Rs 200 crore as advance payment for a Rs 1,000 crore deal to split minority votes to defeat TMC.“They (BJP) have made a deal worth Rs 1,000 crore to remove TMC from power in West Bengal,” the party supremo said.He also alleged that the central forces deployed in the state for the upcoming elections were “insulting” women in the name of searches. The CM also claimed that he was not allowed to hold the rally despite space being available, while immediate approval was given for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s gathering. He also accused the BJP of bribing voters before the elections and called the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists the “biggest scam in the country” in recent times. He said, “SIR is the biggest scam the country has seen in recent times. Everyone in the world knows that your government will fall in 2026. We will then repeal all the anti-people laws brought by your government.”He said, “BJP bribes voters before elections. But soon after the voting is over, they forget their promises. This was seen in the Bihar elections,” Mamata said. The TMC chief further alleged that the BJP would try to manipulate the voting process to win the elections and urged people to remain alert and keep an eye on the voting machines.Banerjee said, “Be cautious about voting machines. BJP has planned slow voting and slow counting. Foil all their plans.”He also alleged that the BJP was planning to give “spicy tea and sweets” to people to “loot votes”.“They are planning to give you intoxicating tea and sweets, after eating which you will fall asleep and they will loot your votes… be careful,” he said.He also questioned the BJP’s election promise of filling vacant posts in government departments and asked, “What happened to his (Modi’s) promise of giving 2 crore jobs to the youth?”

RPCAU is working on rapidly giving GI tag to Bihar crops: RPCAU VC. patna news

<b>RPCAU is working on giving fast GI tag to crops of Bihar: RPCAU VC</b>” title=”Bihar is making fresh efforts to secure GI tags for its unique agricultural products, PS Pandey, vice-chancellor of Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University (RPCAU), told STOI’s BK Mishra in an interview that rigorous scientific documentation and strong producer organizations are necessary to speed up the process. <div class=Bihar is making renewed efforts to secure GI tags for its unique agricultural products, Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University (RPCAU) vice-chancellor PS Pandey told STOI’s BK Mishra in an interview, adding that rigorous scientific documentation and strong producer organizations are necessary to expedite the process. Part:

What are the main reasons for Bihar not getting GI tag on its unique products and artefacts? The primary obstacle has been the lack of rigorous scientific and historical documentation. The GI tag requires extensive proof that a product’s distinctive characteristics are closely linked to its specific geography, climate and traditional practices. In Bihar, most of our traditional knowledge remained oral and unwritten.Additionally, GI tags are given to producer groups or associations, not individuals. The absence of organized cooperative structures among farmers and artisans made it difficult to file legal claims. There was also a significant awareness gap; Many stakeholders were unaware that their local products, such as unique varieties of rice or hand-woven textiles, held considerable intellectual property value that required legal protection to thrive in competitive global markets. What is RPCAU What are you doing to increase the number of GI tagged products?RPCAU is acting as the “technical and legal anchor” for the heritage products of Bihar. We recently celebrated a big milestone when Marcha rice (Maricha paddy) from West Champaran received GI tag exclusively under our technical guidance and facility.Beyond research, we have entered into strategic partnerships including a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Great Mission Consultancy Group, Pune to provide a formal framework for identification and registration of potential products. We are currently working on the scientific characterization of several indigenous varieties and documenting their DNA profiling and biochemical properties to meet the stringent requirements of the GI Registry.By creating Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), we are providing local communities with the legal personality needed to hold and manage these coveted tags. What is the importance of GI tag? Does it benefit the people of a particular area?GI tag is essentially a certificate of origin that provides legal protection against unauthorized use. Its importance is threefold: economic, legal and cultural. This can be transformative for the people of Bihar. This eliminates brand hijacking, where substandard products from other regions are sold under Bihar’s famous names.Economically, this allows farmers to receive premium prices – often 20% to 50% higher than non-tagged varieties – because global consumers are willing to pay for authenticity. For example, recognition of Mithila Makhana or Shahi Litchi has opened up direct export channels, reducing farmers’ dependence on exploitative middlemen. This creates a “Brand Bihar” identity, fosters a sense of pride and ensures that the economic benefits of the region’s heritage remain within the community. How should farmers and other stakeholders be made aware of the benefits of obtaining GI tag for their products?Awareness should extend from the seminar hall to the farm gate. We are using our Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) to conduct workshops at the grassroots level in local dialects, explaining the GI tag as “Aapki Mitti Ki Pehchan” (Identify Your Soil).Stakeholders should see concrete success stories, such as West Champaran farmers getting better markets for Marcha rice. We are also advocating for digital traceability; When a farmer realizes that a QR code on his produce can inform buyers about its origin, the value of the GI tag becomes self-evident.any other suggestions? We need to invest in dedicated GI-branded processing units and cold chains to maintain the quality of GI-tagged products. Integration of agri-tourism with GI products can be a game changer. A “Litchi Trail” in Muzaffarpur or a ‘Makhana Circuit’ in Mithila can be developed, where tourists will visit the place of origin, see traditional harvesting and buy the authentic product. We must also establish strict quality control centers to ensure that any product bearing the GI logo meets the highest standards.

$1 billion, bride or breakup: Ugandan general’s bizarre ultimatum to Türkiye

$1 billion, bride or breakup: Ugandan general's bizarre ultimatum to Türkiye

Ugandan army chief Muhoozi Kainrugaba has sparked a diplomatic controversy after demanding $1 billion from Turkey as well as the country’s “most beautiful woman”, while threatening to break ties if his conditions were not met.In a series of posts on Twitter on Saturday, Kainrugaba said the payment should serve as a “security dividend” for Uganda’s military role in Somalia, where its troops have been involved in the African Union mission against the Islamic militant group al-Shabaab. “In addition to the $1 billion I got from Türkiye, I want the most beautiful woman from that country as my wife!” he wrote in a now-deleted post, which has since gone viral. He warned that failure to comply within 30 days could lead to the severance of diplomatic relations between Uganda and Turkey, including the closure of the Turkish embassy in Kampala and a ban on Turkish Airlines. “It’s really a simple deal for Turkey… either they pay us or I close their embassy here. They can also close our embassy in Turkey in return. No problem,” he said, adding, “If Turkey doesn’t solve our problems, we will break our diplomatic relations within 30 days.”Kainrugaba also accused Ankara of profiting from infrastructure and operational deals in Mogadishu while Uganda bore the burden of security in fighting terrorists for nearly two decades. He described bilateral relations as “severe” and advised Ugandans to avoid traveling to Turkey “for their own safety”.The general, who is the son of President Yoweri Museveni, also expressed support for Israel in the same set of posts, saying, “I am ready to deploy 100,000 Ugandan soldiers to Israel under my command, to defend the Holy Land, the land of our Lord Jesus Christ.”This is not the first time Kainrugaba’s public comments have attracted attention. In 2022, he offered Italy 100 Ankole cows in exchange for marrying its Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and threatened to occupy Rome if the offer was rejected. The comments led to an apology from President Museveni, who had criticized his son for interfering in the affairs of other countries. That same year, Kainrugaba also threatened military action against Kenya, comments that led to his temporary removal from his post and a formal apology from the Ugandan government. There was no immediate reaction from Turkish or Somali officials on the latest statements. Ugandan officials also did not clarify whether the comments reflected official policy or Kainrugaba’s personal views.

Bihar: The game of power continues between JD (U) and BJP for the post of Chief Minister, Nitish made a compromise in 1 way. india news

Bihar: As Nitish packs his bags at 1 Anne Marg, power play is going on between JDU and BJP for the post of CM.

New Delhi: Months after a high-stakes assembly election, politics is once again heating up in Bihar following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s decision to resign from the top post to run for a Rajya Sabha seat.According to reports, Nitish may submit his resignation from the post of CM on April 14 and vacate his official residence.Janata Dal (United) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha said that the process of formation of the new government in Bihar will start after April 13.“I think it will be implemented after April 13. But for more details you should talk to people who are in the state government,” Jha said.JDU leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said, “The new chief minister will be elected on the recommendation by NDA MLAs.” BJP“The BJP has an important role in the formation of the new government. It has its own process in these matters. Once it comes forward with its plan, necessary things will happen,” he said.Meanwhile, many BJP leaders including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary also reached Nitish’s residence. Chaudhary is among the possible names who could replace Nitish Kumar as Bihar CM.Another BJP leader to visit the chief minister’s residence was Lakhendra Paswan, and his visit fueled speculation in a section of the media that the party may push for a Dalit leader.Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has been appointed as the central observer for the election of BJP legislature party leader.‘We need young public servants’Meanwhile, JDU workers have put up posters all over Patna demanding Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant to take the post of Chief Minister. The posters put up early in the morning by “Nitish servants” urged Nishant Kumar to step into active politics, describing him as a “youth leader” and calling on him to “come out of the shadows”.The posters read, “We neither need bulldozers, nor riots or unrest in Bihar. We need a young public servant… now is the time for him to come out of the shadows.”Although there is speculation that Nishant Kumar may take up the role of Deputy Chief Minister, no official announcement has been made yet.According to news agency PTI, party sources admitted that there was a misunderstanding among workers regarding the role of Jha and some other close associates of Nitish in the recent developments. He said, “Yesterday, when the Chief Minister went to the JD(U) office in Delhi, many party workers insisted that even after he steps down, the top post should not be given to the BJP. The views have been shown by all media outlets and, to an extent, reflect the prevailing sentiment here in the party.”“In Nishant (Nitish Kumar’s son, who recently joined the party), we have a young leader who is capable of replacing his father. However, we also know that our leader is unlikely to push for his son. But, at least, we should emphasize all the benefits that the BJP is currently enjoying, including posts like two deputy CMs, Assembly Speaker and the important home portfolio,” he said.“The BJP, on its part, is acting with arrogance. Look at the alacrity with which it nominated Harivansh Narayan Singh to the Rajya Sabha, days after denying him a third consecutive term,” JD(U) sources said.Tejashwi raised the flag of conspiracyMeanwhile, RJD national working president Tejashwi Yadav claimed that JDU president Nitish Kumar was stepping down under “pressure” from his own party colleagues who were “intimidated or cajoled” by ally BJP.Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an RJD function, Tejashwi said, “I claim that the deal to remove Nitish Kumar was made long ago by some bigwigs of JDU. It was not made public because it could have backfired during the assembly elections.”He alleged, “It is nonsense to say that Nitish Kumar, who is not in good physical and mental health, is stepping down on his own will. Just remember the scenes in Delhi. The way Sanjay Jha stopped him from interacting with the media in the national capital is proof of how much humiliation and pressure the seasoned leader is facing.”He further said that the JDU leaders who are behind this conspiracy have either been misled by the BJP or are living in fear of ED and CBI, which have become weapons of the ruling party at the Centre.Nitish took oath as a Rajya Sabha member in a brief ceremony at the Parliament House in New Delhi. Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath in his chamber.

Caste-based census: ‘Misleading the nation’: Jairam Ramesh criticizes Modi government over delay in caste census. india news

'देश को गुमराह कर रहे हैं': जातिगत जनगणना में देरी पर जयराम रमेश ने मोदी सरकार की आलोचना कीIn a post on X, Ramesh outlined the Centre’s changing position. He said that on July 20, 2021, the government told the Lok Sabha that it had “as a matter of policy decided not to enumerate caste-wise population other than SCs and STs in the census.”He further said that on September 21, 2021, the government filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court reiterating its decision not to conduct the caste census.

Timeline for change of stance marked

Ramesh also pointed to Narendra Modi’s comments in April 2024, when the Prime Minister had reportedly accused the Congress of having an “urban Naxalite mentality” for demanding a caste census. He then highlighted that on April 30, 2025, soon after the Pahalgam terror attack, the government announced that caste census would be conducted as part of the upcoming exercise.“It is clear that the Modi government wants to put the caste census on the back burner,” Ramesh said, alleging lack of consistency in policy decisions.

Delay concerns and political allegations

The Congress leader also cited the press conference of the Registrar-General and Census Commissioner on March 30, 2025, who had said that most of the results of the ongoing Census 2027 would be available only that year due to the digital format.Ramesh questioned the delay and said states like Telangana and Bihar had completed the caste survey within six months. He further accused the government of trying to amend Article 334-A and linked the issue to the implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, 2023.He alleged, “The Prime Minister, as usual, is misleading the country and is engaged in spreading confusion on a large scale. Now he wants to amend a provision which was passed unanimously by Parliament in September 2023. The hidden agenda is simple: there is to be no caste census.”

Iran warns US of ‘excessive demands’; Vance returned to America empty handed

His comments came as marathon talks brokered by Pakistan ended without any results, with Iranian media confirming that the two sides “have not reached any agreement”.

‘Committed to protecting national interests’

Bakaaei said the Iranian delegation held “intense talks” throughout Saturday and exchanged several messages with the US side “using all its capacity, experience and knowledge to protect Iran’s rights and interests.”He said, “The enormous loss of our great people… has made our resolve… stronger than ever.” “Nothing can and should stop us from pursuing our great historical mission towards our beloved homeland and the great Iranian civilization,” he said.He said Tehran is committed to using “all tools, including diplomacy” to secure its goals, while emphasizing that any progress depends on “the seriousness and good faith of the opposing side.”

Major sticking points remain unresolved

According to Bakayi, the discussions held over the past 24 hours covered major issues including the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear program, war reparations, sanctions relief and a complete end to the war in the region.Iranian media claimed that US “excessive demands” prevented a common framework for an agreement. “The success of this diplomatic process depends on the seriousness and goodwill of the opposing side, refraining from excessive demands and unlawful requests, and acceptance of Iran’s legitimate rights and interests,” Bakaei wrote.Disputes over nuclear commitments and control over the Strait of Hormuz remained central points of contention.

America confirmed no deal after 21 hours of talks

US Vice President JD Vance said the US delegation was leaving Pakistan without a deal after 21 hours of talks, adding that Iran had refused to accept US conditions, including a commitment not to build nuclear weapons.“The bad news is we haven’t reached an agreement,” Vance said. He said Washington had made its “red lines” clear. The talks, the first direct high-level engagement between the two sides in more than a decade, were seen as crucial to maintaining the fragile two-week ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route.

Although there is speculation that Nishant Kumar may take up the role of Deputy Chief Minister, no official announcement has been made yet.

Political vacuum and changing power dynamics

Nitish Kumar’s entry into Rajya Sabha marks a significant change in the political scenario of Bihar. He was sworn in as an MP on 10 April, fulfilling his long-held goal of serving in every legislative house of India. He also resigned from the Bihar Legislative Council, paving the way for a new leadership structure in the state. The move is seen as handing over more control of the state government to the BJP within the NDA alliance, indicating a structural shift ahead of the upcoming political contests.According to news agency ANI, reacting to the poster campaign, Congress leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh dismissed the speculation, saying, “One does not become a chief minister by putting up posters… Now he is gone, who is left to play in his party.”
