New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday accepted a fresh request by Reliance Industries Ltd, questioning the government’s demand of $2.81 billion for alleged theft. natural gas by RIL ONGC Block in KG Basin, to resolve the dispute bilaterally with the Centre.When senior lawyer Kapil Sibal appealed for conciliation, Attorney General R Venkataramani said a fresh request was made by RIL on Monday morning and the government was ready to consider the request.The CJI-led bench, which had refused to adjourn the hearing to July a week earlier, agreed to adjourn the four-day hearing to the third week of July after the AG said the government was not averse to exploring the bilateral dispute resolution process. It said, “We will be most pleased if the dispute is resolved amicably. If you reach a compromise, we will dispose of the appeal.” Last Wednesday, RIL made two attempts to convince the CJI-led bench to adjourn the hearing, but the AG preferred to end the hearing on RIL’s appeal against the Delhi HC verdict.
