Two EA-18 fighter planes collided mid-air during an air show at a military base in Idaho on Sunday, with dramatic footage capturing the moment the planes collided with each other before falling towards the ground in flames. Videos shared online showed four parachutes opening in the sky immediately after the collision, suggesting that all the aircrew managed to eject safely.The incident occurred during the Gunfighter Skies air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base, about 50 miles southeast of Boise. The two planes, believed to be EA-18G Growler fighter jets, were performing close-in maneuvers when they collided about two miles from the base, according to reports from local broadcaster IdahoNews.Eyewitness video showed the jets flying very close to each other before becoming entangled in the air. Sparks were seen flying from the aircraft and they turned towards the ground, turning into a huge fireball and thick black smoke billowing over the base.Emergency crews arrived at the scene as the base was immediately placed under lockdown. In a statement on social media, Mountain Home Air Force Base confirmed that responders were on the scene and an investigation into the crash had been launched.Announcements at the base reportedly said all the airmen involved had parachuted safely and were “fine”, though officials did not immediately release further details about the injuries or the cause of the collision.Following the crash, organizers canceled the remainder of the Fighter Skies air show.
