Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Monday he said he was “confident” of a “historic transformation” in Bengal after the elections and that he would return to the state to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP government.Addressing a rally in Barrackpore, Modi said, “Wherever I went, I felt the mood of the people of Bengal. I am confident that I will have to be present at the swearing-in ceremony after May 4 (the day the assembly election results will be declared).”India’s prosperity is incomplete without “Purvodaya” (rising of the East), he said. The PM said Bengal was heading towards a “historic transition” and the elections would “change the destiny of the entire eastern India”. “It is my duty to keep Bengal safe. I will never step back from my responsibility.”In an attempt to establish the BJP’s historical closeness to Bengal, Modi noted the rise of his party’s ideological precursor Jan Sangh in the state. Modi said, “The Presidency region of Bengal gave birth to Jan Sangh and elected Syama Prasad Mukherjee as MP. The BJP government in Bengal will fulfill its pledge to end the menace of refugees.”Infiltrators should leave Bengal and India before April 29: Modi In an attempt to strike a chord with the community, Modi visited the Matua temple in Thakurnagar and shared a photo of his 2019 meeting with the now late Matua matriarch, Baroma Binapani Devi, on his X handle.Underscoring the BJP’s commitment towards protecting persecuted Hindus in neighboring countries, he said in Thakurnagar, “Jana Sangh (ideological precursor of BJP) stands strongly with the refugees. Syama Prasad Mukherjee was considered their spokesperson.” In the same breath, he spoke out against Trinamool’s “appeasement politics” and vowed to drive out infiltrators.He said, “I am warning the infiltrators to leave Bengal and India before April 29. Otherwise, every one of them will be thrown out after May 4.”Referring to the first phase of voting on April 23, which saw a record turnout of over 93%, Modi said, “TMC’s pride was destroyed in the first phase. BJP’s massive victory in the second phase will be assured. We have to win at every booth and there is no room for complacency.” Pointing to the huge participation of women in the first phase, Modi said women were cheated the most during Trinamool’s tenure.Referring to the I-PAC issue, he said, “Trinamool and the state government tried to create obstacles in the investigation of the central agency. Attempts were made to destroy evidence. But the Supreme Court has recently given a strict order in this case.”Before attending the road show in Kolkata, Modi offered prayers at Thanthania Kalibari.
