Texas daycare accused of H-1B scam in ‘pay-to-play’ scheme; Visa linked to unrelated job roles

टेक्सास डेकेयर पर 'पे-टू-प्ले' योजना में एच-1बी घोटाले का आरोप; वीजा असंबंधित नौकरी भूमिकाओं से जुड़ा हुआ है

Sara Gonzales outside the daycare

A Texas daycare owner has come under scrutiny after a video surfaced showing him objecting to claims that his businesses had sponsored dozens of foreign workers through the US H-1B visa program. Critics described it as a “pay-to-play” scheme. The footage was shared by BlazeTV and Texas personality Sara Gonzales. It shows him interrogating the operator of the Allen Infant Care Center, formerly known as Golden Acorn Academy, in North Texas. Gonzales says the daycare is affiliated with Golden Qi Holdings LLC and autism therapy provider DFW ABA Center.According to their findings, the businesses have collectively filed more than 50 labor status applications and sponsored at least 37 H-1B visa workers. Some of the roles listed include market research analysts and supply chain analysts, positions that appear to be unrelated to daycare or childcare services.During the confrontation, the owner, identified as Yuan Yao, refused to answer questions and repeatedly asked Gonzales to speak to his attorney. Asked about the allegations, he declined to provide documents, saying, “I can only tell you, everything is legal.”Gonzales also asked for public records that employers are required to keep under H-1B rules, but said these were not produced during the exchange. The video also includes claims from a whistleblower who is said to be familiar with the businesses. “He sells visas,” the man alleged, and claimed foreign workers paid up to $20,000 for sponsorships. The whistleblower also alleged that some workers were underpaid after arriving in the US, saying the owner “asks them to work for him without any fees.”Questions were also raised about whether the daycare facility was actively running. Gonzales said during his visit that “this day care just closed” and it appears changes are underway. It was also reported that businesses had received over $100,000 in Paycheck Protection Program loans that were later forgiven. The H-1B visa program allows US employers to hire foreign workers into specialist roles, but requires them to demonstrate genuine job requirements and be paid a set salary level.Gonzales said she plans to convey her findings to federal officials, questioning why an allegedly defunct daycare would continue to file H-1B petitions. The confrontation comes as Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is already investigating suspected H-1B abuses in North Texas. His office had previously issued civil demands following reports of companies allegedly running “ghost” operations while sponsoring foreign workers.

Kolkata: The final phase of assembly elections in West Bengal is being concluded under a security grid rarely seen in Indian elections, spread across 142 constituencies across seven districts. The numbers define the scale – over 2.3 lakh Central Armed Police Forces personnel, 38,297 state police, 142 general observers, 95 police observers, 100 expenditure observers and NIA teams are deployed in sensitive areas.A massive crackdown preceded Wednesday’s voting – an election day marked by heavy force, tight surveillance and a clear message: Voting must remain fear-free and fair.More than 800 arrests were made on Monday night alone, leading to an increase in preventive detention. Central teams also visited sensitive areas and warned local political officials to stay within the law or face consequences. In 72 hours, 2,348 alleged miscreants have been jailed under Election Commission directions, including TMC councilors in Panihati and Burdwan. Another 653 non-bailable warrants were issued. “The EC has asked the police to ensure that no miscreants remain outside till morning,” a source said.Kolkata is at the center of deployment. At least 274 companies of central forces – 22,500 personnel – supported by 7,250 city police, will guard 5,172 booths in 1,961 premises, the highest deployment recorded in the city. East Burdwan (263 companies) and Hooghly Rural (236) also recorded a heavy presence, reflecting previous flashpoints and risk assessments.Out of 41,001 booths, about 12,000 have been kept in the sensitive category. Additional CAPF quick-response teams will cover Bhangar, Canning, Falta and Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas and Nadanghat and Ketugram in East Burdwan. The security plan has been adjusted constituency wise, with a focus on sensitive areas and hinterland.NIA teams have spread across all eight electoral districts, including Khagragarh, where two alleged terrorists were killed and three injured in the 2014 blast. Their presence underlines the increased vigilance in areas with a history of extremist activity.

David Beckham and Victoria Beckham may soon have to face a tense moment in Miami, and this time it’s not about football or fashion. It’s about family. Reports say that the ongoing issues with his son Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz are not over yet. Now, things might get more serious as both the families are expected to be in the same city. according to perez hiltonThe situation is slowly building and could become “explosive”. An insider told radaronline Miami is where it all can happen. Nicola Peltz’s parents, Nelson Peltz and Claudia Heffner Peltz, live there. Additionally, David Beckham also has strong business and personal ties to the city. The biggest concern is simple. Both the families live in the same social circle. Sooner or later, they may come face to face. And when that happens, it can’t be quiet.

David Beckham and Victoria Beckham’s Miami plans may clash Nicola Peltz Parents Nelson Peltz and Claudia Heffner Peltz

David Beckham is deeply associated with Miami due to his role at Inter Miami CF. Reports say he spends a lot of time there and plans to remain active in the city. Despite family tension, he is not backing down.An insider shared this candidly: “Nobody is going to drive David out of Miami, least of all Peltz. He’s invested a lot of money in Inter Miami, and he and Victoria see South Florida as their home away from home in America.”This shows that the couple has no plans to escape the city. They attend events, host large gatherings and remain visible. Despite the ongoing problems they are not changing their lifestyle. On the other hand, Nicola Peltz’s parents are known to be very protective. The report claims that they are unhappy with how their daughter was treated. The insider said: “The way they tell it, Victoria and David are monsters who have tried to make their daughter’s life hell and they’re on a mission to make sure that’s the story everyone in town believes.”This adds another layer to the situation. It is no longer just a private family issue. It is also about reputation in close social circles.Since Miami’s high-profile social scene is small, it may not be possible to avoid each other. The same insider warned: “Nicola’s mother is a major society player and very fierce. When she and Victoria come face to face, which they eventually will, it’s going to be explosive.”So now, all eyes are on Miami. Not for a party or a match, but for a possible family moment that could be very stressful.

Bizarre tax laws in US could wipe out more than 30 countries’ World Cup earnings as FIFA fails to secure exemption international sports news

Bizarre tax laws in US could wipe out more than 30 countries' World Cup earnings as FIFA fails to secure exemption

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is just a few weeks away, but behind the scale of the 48-team tournament spanning three countries is a quiet issue that has nothing to do with football. For the first time in decades, a large number of participating nations are going to the World Cup knowing that some of their earnings may be lost to taxes. At the heart of the issue is the fact that, while FIFA itself retains tax-exempt status in the United States, a status it has held since the 1994 World Cup, it has not been able to secure the same blanket exemption for the 48 participating national associations. That difference, combined with the structure of US tax law and the uneven network of international tax treaties, means that the financial impact will not be shared equally. It is already clear that more than half of the region, especially non-European countries, may face significantly higher costs.

Why is this World Cup different from previous editions?

In past tournaments, host governments have generally granted tax exemptions to all participating teams. The most recent example is the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where all 32 national associations were allowed to operate without paying local taxes on their tournament earnings. This time this has not happened in the United States. According to the report of GuardianFIFA was unable to negotiate comprehensive waivers with the US government. As a result, national associations will now be subject to a mix of federal, state and city taxes on income generated during tournaments.

Under US law, athletes and artists are required to pay taxes on earnings made while working in the country. This principle applies directly to footballers participating in the World Cup. Backroom staff and coaches fall into a slightly different category depending on tax treaties, but they are still part of the broader financial equation.

Treaty divides, why some countries are protected and others are not

The biggest dividing line runs through something called a double taxation agreement or DTA. These are bilateral treaties between countries that prevent individuals or organizations from being taxed twice on the same income. Of the 48 teams in the 2026 World Cup, only 18 come from countries that have a DTA with the United States. Those agreements largely involve co-hosts Canada and Mexico, as well as European countries and a few others like Australia, Egypt, Morocco and South Africa. For those countries, the burden is significantly reduced because their delegations are exempt from some federal taxes. For the remaining 30 countries, many of which are from small football economies, there is no such protection. This imbalance is at the heart of the issue. As tax consultant Oriana Morrison, who has advised both the Portuguese and Brazilian federations, said in comments reported by The Guardian: Teams from countries with tax treaties “will have much lower costs than smaller countries like Curaçao and Haiti.” Countries like Curaçao and Cape Verde, both of which are making their World Cup debuts, may have larger tax liabilities than wealthier European nations like England, France or Germany because of where they are located.

How is the tax actually applied, and who pays what?

Breaking down the details becomes more complicated, as players in the United States are always taxed on income earned there, regardless of any tax treaties. This means that match fees, bonuses and tournament-related commercial earnings all fall under the US tax system. Coaches and staff may be treated differently depending on treaty coverage. For example, Thomas Tuchel, who manages England, would usually only pay tax in the United Kingdom due to treaty protection. In contrast, Carlo Ancelotti, currently leading Brazil, may face taxation in both Brazil and the US as Brazil does not have a DTA with the United States.

For high earners, numbers matter. The US federal income tax rate for the top bracket is about 37%, while the corporate tax is about 21%. Furthermore, state-level taxes vary widely depending on where the matches are played. For example, Florida has no state income tax, while New Jersey, which will host the finals at MetLife Stadium, could reach 10.75%, and California, where Los Angeles and San Francisco host the games, could reach 13.3%. Those variations mean the exact tax bill for each team will depend not only on their earnings, but also on where their matches are scheduled.

Cost pressure is not just taxes, it is the entire financial model

Even without the tax issue, many federations were already concerned about the cost. FIFA has set a fixed operating budget of $1.5 million per team for the tournament. That budget includes a per diem for each delegation member, which has been reduced from $850 to $600 for the 2022 World Cup. This decrease comes despite significantly higher travel, accommodation and logistics costs in the United States than in Qatar. When this is combined with potential tax liabilities, margins become tight, especially for smaller organizations. As Morrison said, the impact is not just accounting. For smaller associations, participation in the World Cup may represent a financial windfall that supports domestic football development. Losing a portion of that income to taxes changes the economic meaning of the tournament. “It’s going to cost most non-European countries a lot of money to go to the World Cup,” he said, adding that the money that could support local soccer “is going to stay in the US.”

Geography adds another layer of complexity

The tournament is spread across three countries, but the United States will host the majority of the matches, 78 of the 104, including every game through the quarterfinals. This matters because both Canada and Mexico provide full tax exemptions to participating teams. Any matches played in those countries will have a light financial burden. However, once teams progress to the subsequent knockout rounds, they will inevitably play in the US, where the tax risk increases.

This uneven geography creates a situation where two teams in the same tournament can face very different financial outcomes, depending on where their matches are held and how much progress they are making.

FIFA’s response, what else could change

FIFA has not publicly detailed the full solution, but sources indicate the governing body is working with national associations to manage the tax implications and provide guidance. There is movement on the revenue side also. Reports in late April suggest that FIFA has agreed in principle to increase prize money and participation fees for the 2026 tournament, with final approval expected at the FIFA Council meeting in Vancouver. That adjustment is seen as a response to concerns first raised at the beginning of the year that teams could lose money despite participating in the sport’s biggest event.

big picture

On paper, the expansion to 48 teams was meant to make the World Cup more inclusive. Financially, this has introduced a layer of inequality that depends less on performance and more on tax treaties and geography. For wealthy European countries with established agreements, the impact is manageable. For smaller countries without those protections, the difference could be substantial, enough to turn a scarce fiscal stimulus into a more complicated calculation.

90-year-old refuses to settle defamation case, Bombay HC adjourns it to 2046 | india news

90 year old man refuses to settle defamation case, Bombay HC adjourns it till 2046

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday adjourned to 2046 the Rs 20 crore defamation suit filed by a senior citizen, aged around 90, and his daughter against the managing committee members of a South Mumbai housing society. “I don’t want to say anything except that this matter should not be taken up for the next 20 years,” Justice Jitendra Jain, sitting alone, said after attempts at a compromise failed and he insisted on going ahead with the trial. This controversy reportedly arose about a decade ago.On April 20, the HC urged both parties to try and reach a compromise, saying the case could be resolved with an unconditional apology by the defendants. On Tuesday, when the matter came up as scheduled, the then committee members, represented by ALMT Legal, said they would tender an unconditional apology without causing any prejudice. However, the nearly 90-year-old woman still insists on going ahead with the legal battle, as the HC order, a one-page one, said on Tuesday. The High Court said, “This is one of those cases where the ego battle between the parties in the last days of life clogs the system, preventing the court from taking up cases that really require greater priority.”The dispute was over alleged collection of funds for the repair and maintenance of the society. In the minutes of the meetings, he was called a “defaulter”, leading to a defamation suit.
