The White House has now released the names of 21 US companies that are donating millions to build a new 90,000-square-foot ballroom on its grounds, a project whose estimated cost has doubled since July to $400 million. The announcement from the White House comes amid increased urgency following a security incident at a correspondents’ dinner last weekend, the Associated Press reports. US President Donald Trump has insisted that the ballroom will not be funded by taxpayers, although public funds are being used for underground security infrastructure. In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “What happened last night is exactly why our great military, the Secret Service, law enforcement and, for different reasons, every president for the last 150 years, are demanding that a large, safe and secure ballroom be built on the grounds of the White House. This event would never have happened with the Military Top Secret Ballroom currently under construction at the White House. Can’t make it fast enough! While beautiful, it has all the highest level security features, plus, there is no room at the top for unsecured people, and it is right inside the gates of the most secure building in the world, the White House. This ridiculous ballroom lawsuit brought by a woman walking her dog who has absolutely no ability to bring such a suit should be dropped immediately. Nothing should be allowed to interfere with its construction, which is on budget and well ahead of schedule!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”The Justice Department has cited this incident in urging the National Trust for Historic Preservation to drop its lawsuit against the project, arguing that the ballroom would enable presidents to host large gatherings without leaving the confines of the White House.

List of 21 American companies who donated millions for the new ballroom of Trump administration

The list reviewed by Fortune includes some of the country’s largest technology companies, defense contractors and energy companies. Of the 21 major donors:* Meta Platform – Promised billions in US investments by 2028.* Apple – Announces $100 billion in domestic manufacturing plans.* Amazon – Maintains major Pentagon contracts.* Google (Alphabet) – Contributed $22 million from the settlement to Ballroom.* Lockheed Martin – Reportedly donated more than $10 million.* Microsoft – Involved in federal cybersecurity partnerships.* Comcast – parent of NBCUniversal, frequent critic of Trump.* Altria – The tobacco giant’s support led to reduced FDA oversight.* Coinbase – Crypto exchange supports pro-crypto regulation.* Palantir Technologies – Major federal surveillance contractor.* T-Mobile – Network partner for Trump-branded cell service.* Ripple – Blockchain payments firm aligns with digital-asset policy.* Hard Rock International – casino brand with the Trump Organization.* Tether America – stablecoin issuer supporting digital-dollar options.* Union Pacific Railroad – Fulfilling merger ambitions.* Micron Technology – Pledged $200 billion in US chip investment.* Caterpillar – Symbol of “Made in America” manufacturing.* Booz Allen Hamilton – Defense and cyber security contractor.*HP – Longtime donor with military contracts.* NextEra Energy – renewable energy utility balancing coal policy criticism.* Reynolds American – Tobacco conglomerate with past Trump fundraising ties. The donation is being donated to the Trust for the National Mall, which is a non-profit organization and is tax-deductible. While Trump has said he will personally contribute, his name does not appear on the donor list.

Machines will take over: China to deploy 8,500 robots for $1 billion to automate its power grid world News

Machines will take over: China to deploy 8,500 robots for $1 billion to automate its power grid

China is accelerating the use of robotics in one of its most critical systems: the national power grid. China’s state-owned State Grid Corporation has outlined plans to invest about $1 billion (about 6.8 billion yuan) to buy about 8,500 robots, with deployment expected on a large scale by 2026. These machines will aid in inspection and maintenance in substations and transmission networks, including in remote or hazardous environments. The move reflects a broader effort to improve efficiency, security and reliability in power distribution as demand grows, while also advancing China’s ambitions in industrial robotics and AI-enabled infrastructure.

What’s included in China’s $1B robot rollout

The planned fleet includes a mix of machine types already being tested or deployed in grid operation. Quadruped robots, often called robot dogs, are designed for patrolling and inspection in challenging terrain and large substations. Wheeled robots equipped with robotic arms are being developed for controlled maintenance work requiring precise operations. Humanoid robots are also part of the broader approach, although they remain in limited and largely experimental roles. Domestic companies like Unitri Robotics, Deep Robotics and UBTech Robotics are contributing to the development of these systems. Current deployments still focus primarily on inspection rather than complex repair work, especially in structured substation environments.

What are these robots designed to do

Grid robots are used to support routine and high-risk operations within the electricity network. They can detect defects using thermal imaging and other sensors, monitor equipment condition, and identify anomalies that may not be immediately visible to human inspectors. They are also deployed to inspect transmission lines in mountainous or inaccessible areas, reducing the need for personnel to enter hazardous locations. In controlled settings, some robots can perform basic, repetitive maintenance tasks. These functions are already being tested in a number of areas and are helping to reduce reliance on manual inspections where the risks are greatest.

What are these robots designed to do

change the way of working

Despite the scale of the rollout, the robots are not expected to replace human maintenance workers. Their role is to complement the existing workforce by reducing the risk of hazardous situations, improving consistency in inspections and enabling faster fault detection in large networks. Human technicians are essential for complex repairs, system-level decisions, and emergency management. This shift represents an evolution in the way work is done, with machines handling specific tasks while people retain overall control.

Why is China investing heavily in grid automation?

China operates one of the largest and most complex electricity networks in the world, spanning vast geographic areas that include remote and difficult terrain. Maintaining this system presents significant logistical challenges, especially as electricity demand continues to grow due to the increasing energy needs of industrial expansion, urbanization and digital infrastructure. The development of ultra-high-voltage transmission systems has further increased this complexity. Robotics offers a practical way to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and enable more consistent monitoring across the network.

A push into industrial robotics

The Grid Automation initiative is part of a broader national strategy to expand capabilities in robotics and artificial intelligence. Industrial environments such as power networks provide structured conditions suitable for automation and generate continuous operational data that can be used to refine AI systems over time. Large-scale deployment in such settings allows companies and state operators to develop technologies beyond laboratory conditions, accelerating their practical application.

What does this mean for the future of power systems

China’s approach highlights how critical infrastructure is becoming a testing ground for robotics and AI technologies. While full automation of power grids is still away, the increased use of machines for inspection and routine maintenance is likely to impact the way utilities operate globally. The change is gradual, with robots playing defined roles within existing systems, improving efficiency and safety while human oversight remains central.

Mumbai: The prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club, which is the custodian of the rules of the game, on Thursday defended the controversial decision of the umpires to give out Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi for obstructing the field during a recent IPL 2026 match. The London-based club, which is headquartered at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground, issued a ‘legal clarification’ regarding obstruction of the field, saying Raghuvanshi’s dismissal met the criteria that “a batsman who changes direction while running, particularly one who changes direction to run across the pitch, or takes any other route that would not be the fastest route to the other end, is acting knowingly.”Go beyond limits with our YouTube channel. Subscribe now!The controversial incident took place during KKR’s match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow last Sunday. Raghuvanshi took a quick single and was sent back by her partner. He turned, dived to tighten his grip and was caught by the ball as the throw arrived. LSG’s fielders appealed, and on review, the third umpire, Rohan Pandit, gave him out. The pundit ruled that Raghuvanshi “changed his direction of motion” after seeing the ball thrown at him.

Explaining the law regarding ‘obstructing the field’, the MCC state that “Law 37.1.1 states that any batsman is out for obstructing the field if they “knowingly attempt to obstruct or distract the fielding side by word or action.” This means that the obstruction must have been deliberate, which can be difficult to determine. There has long been an interpretation on this exact matter, where the batsman is running as the throw arrives. – This is published in Tom Smith’s Cricket Umpiring and Scoring, the MCC’s official interpretation of the Laws of Cricket, and has been accepted for many years. It states: ‘A batsman who changes direction while running, especially one who changes direction in order to run onto the pitch, or takes any other path which would not be the fastest way to reach the other end, is acting deliberately.’The MCA said that the case for Raghuvanshi’s dismissal for ‘obstructing the field’ was made out in accordance with this law, as he had “deliberately” changed his direction from off-side to leg-side while running between the wickets. “Raghuvanshi clearly meets these criteria. When he comes out for his run, he is on the off side of the wicket. As the ball approaches the fielder, he runs down the middle of the pitch – which is not where he should be running in any situation – and then turns and runs back down the leg side, putting himself between the ball and the wicket. By definition, it is an intentional act. If he had stayed away from the pitch, on the off side, the ball would not have hit him and the question of obstruction would not have arisen. If he had started running towards the leg side, then turned and returned to his ground on the same side before being hit by the ball, he would also have been considered not out – he would have been in the way, but not intentionally. “Deliberate crossing of the pitch was what led to his collapse,” the MCC said. The MCC also clarified that dismissals for ‘obstructing the field’ do not take into account whether the batsman could have survived without any obstruction. The MCC statement concluded, “There has been some suggestion that Raghuvanshi should not have been given out because he would have made his ground even if the throw had not hit him. However, this is not a consideration. Provided that the obstruction was not to prevent the taking of a catch, whether dismissal was likely or not is not a criterion in obstructing the field.”

Turning Point USA CEO Erica Kirk has sharply criticized journalists after the attempted shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, accusing them of repeatedly labeling President Donald Trump with extremist terms such as ‘Nazi’ and ‘Hitler’.In a video message posted on Instagram and shared via her late husband Charlie Kirk’s podcast platform, Kirk said some sections of the media had used such language while attending the high-profile event.“Many of the left-wing journalists attending WHCD have spent years repeatedly calling President Trump a ‘Nazi’, a ‘threat to democracy’ and ‘Hitler’, yet they happily attended the evening’s event….”He said that such behavior shows inconsistency in his stand.“If they really believed their own rhetoric, they would either happily have dinner with ‘Hitler’ or they would be lying to radicalize American citizens about things they know are extremely exaggerated.”Kirk added, “Either way, it exposes their game of ultimate hypocrisy: build hatred and then profit from the consequences; even if it means losing a life.”

Why did she attend the dinner?

Kirk said she traveled across the country to attend the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and talk to reporters about their coverage of her and her late husband.Explaining her decision, she said, “Many journalists in that room attempted to dehumanize me, and I wanted to meet some of them face to face, quite frankly.”“Why talk about me when you can talk to me,” he added, according to the Daily Beast. Kirk also described a conversation she had with a reporter, in which she said: “It feels great to have someone’s name out there, especially with all the slander, lies, accusations that have surrounded my husband and my murder.”Recalling the dinner meeting, Kirk said, “Shots started flying and there was complete chaos.”

Claims of ‘dehumanization’ and media conduct

In his remarks, Kirk linked the attack to a broader climate of hostility.“There is a serious epidemic of dehumanization in this country,” he said, arguing that violent incidents were being normalized in public discussion. He also criticized the behavior of journalists during the shooting, saying that they focused on capturing footage instead of prioritizing safety. He said, “During a shooting act, these journalists are using their phones to capture moments for clips… they may have accidentally and literally shot themselves.”The incident comes months after the murder of Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead at a public event in 2025. Since then, Erica Kirk has taken over the leadership of Turning Point USA and has been the subject of intense public scrutiny. He said he continues to face criticism and misinformation. She said, “Every morning I wake up to a new headline telling lies about me. I have white-faced comedians. I have people saying I’m not fit to be a CEO.”Kirk also criticized political opponents and commentators, including media personalities and public figures, accusing them of contributing to a hostile environment. She said, “Our country has become unrecognizable. These people have distorted the truth to such an extent that they inspired the murder of my husband.”A dinner at the Washington Hilton was disrupted after a gunman reportedly attempted to storm the venue.According to authorities, 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen tried to breach security near the ballroom, where senior officials and journalists had gathered.Shots were fired during the incident and a Secret Service officer was shot in his bullet-resistant vest, but survived. President Trump was escorted out of the venue and the event was stopped.

Today's Chanakya Exit Poll: Mamata's defeat certain in Bengal, status quo in Assam and Tamil Nadu; Tough contest between UDF-LDF in Kerala
Mamata Banerjee, MK Stalin, Pinarayi Vijayan and Himanta Biswa Sarma

New Delhi: Exit poll predictions released by Today’s Chanakya on Thursday included upcoming assembly results in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu. AssamAnd Kerala. This estimate comes a day after several other surveyors released their estimates for these states.Today’s Chanakya has turned the current political picture upside down in its election predictions for West Bengal and given a massive mandate to the BJP with 192 seats, while pushing the 15-year-old strong TMC regime to the opposition with a paltry tally of 100 seats. The latest prediction follows this trend, with at least four other pollsters giving the BJP an edge over Mamata Banerjee’s party. The numbers clearly indicate a possible end to Mamata Banerjee’s long rule in Bengal, paving the way for the BJP to form its first government in the state after an intense and high-voltage campaign led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.In Tamil Nadu, the pollster predicted that the MK Stalin-led DMK alliance would comfortably retain power, while new political entrant TVK, led by Vijay, could damage the main opposition alliance led by the AIADMK, marginalizing Edappadi Palaniswami’s chances of returning as Chief Minister.According to estimates, Stalin’s DMK is seen getting 125 seats, AIADMK 45 seats and Vijay’s TVK 63 seats in the 234-member assembly.According to Today’s Chanakya, the numbers reflect the average seats the parties are likely to win. Projections indicate a landslide victory for the BJP in Assam, suggesting another term for the current chief minister Himanta Biswa SarmaWhile the Congress seems to be lagging behind by a huge margin, there is some respite for Gaurav Gogoi in the state that was once ruled by his father. Tarun Gogoi. For Assam 2026, Today’s Chanakya projected a clear gain for the BJP-led alliance, with an average of 102 seats, with estimates ranging between 93 to 111 seats. The Congress-led alliance is expected to get 14 to 32 seats with an average of 23 seats, while others are likely to be marginal with 0 to 2 seats with an average of 1 seat.In Kerala, projections point to a close contest between the incumbent LDF and the main opposition UDF.In Kerala 2026, projections suggest tight competition between the two major fronts. The UDF is estimated to win 60 to 78 seats, with an average of 69 seats, followed by the ruling LDF with 55 to 73 seats, with an average of 64 seats, indicating a close contest. BJP is projected to get 3 to 11 seats, with an average of 7 seats, while others are projected to get 0 to 1 seats, with an average of 0 seats.Seat estimates for the other two major states West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have not been released yet.
