TMC tops in number of women, don’t preach on quota: Mamata Banerjee india news
Kolkata: “Don’t lecture me on women’s reservation,” Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Said on Saturday, he had raised this issue in Parliament in 1998. He said PM Modi’s speeches were “full of lies” and he was “forced” to address the nation because “their (BJP’s) downfall started yesterday”. Banerjee said that more than 40% of her party’s MPs are women, which is the highest number in Parliament. Moreover, TMC has fielded the highest number of women candidates (52) in the upcoming Bengal Assembly elections, he said. Congress has fielded 35 women candidates, Left has fielded 34 and BJP has fielded 33 women candidates. “The BJP wanted to impose delimitation under the guise of the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill because Modi could not win with the existing number of Lok Sabha seats. That is why he wanted to increase the number of seats to 850. This was their inherent game.” Pointing out that the Women’s Reservation Bill was long pending, he asked, “What was the need to add delimitation to it? Do they think they are very clever?” On Modi’s “tukde tukde gang” statement for TMC, he said, “BJP wanted to divide the country through delimitation. They are the real tukde tukde gang.”
