Defeat of the bill is victory for the country: Priyanka Gandhi. india news
Congress: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Saturday said the Modi government should implement women’s reservation in 543 seats of the existing Lok Sabha as per the 2023 Act, claiming that the BJP cannot be trusted in the matter of overhauling Parliament in the light of induced delimitations done by the Modi government in Assam and Jammu and Kashmir. He assured the opposition’s support for quota in the current Lok Sabha and said that if some minor changes have to be made in the law, the government can call a Parliament session. The opposition is also planning to write a letter to PM Modi demanding immediate implementation of the 2023 Act. Addressing a press conference, he said, “They (the government) will keep three members in the Delimitation Commission. Like other commissions, they will capture it. How did they do this in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam? They broke constituencies of opposition politicians and saved their own (Assam) constituencies.” Strange constituencies were designed in Jammu and Kashmir. Who can trust them?” The Wayanad Lok Sabha MP said that the defeat of the Constitution Amendment Bill is a victory for the country, the Constitution, democracy and opposition unity. He said, “We saw the faces of big BJP leaders in Parliament. It was clear from his expression that this was a shock for him, as he had lost for the first time in 12 years. We fight strong and stand together, and hopefully we will be able to achieve much more than what we did before,” she said. Priyanka said the move to increase the size of the Lok Sabha to 850 means that men are trying to reserve their seats from the women’s quota. “We are living in patriarchy.
