New Delhi: The three-day meeting of Parliament was adjourned sine die on Saturday budget session It was a disappointing end for the government as its ambitious legislative attempt to implement women’s reservation from 2029 along with a 50% increase in Lok Sabha seats was defeated by a united opposition. The session concluded with the presentation of ‘Vande Mataram’ in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, in which, in a first, all six verses of the national song were played following the government order that it should not be sung or played at official functions, public functions and school assemblies. Barring the swearing-in of newly elected MPs, little business took place in the Rajya Sabha during the three days as the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill was defeated in the Lok Sabha. In his concluding speech, the Chairman Om Birla Said that 31 meetings were held during the session which lasted for approximately 151 hours and 42 minutes. The productivity of the house was 93%. The traditional tea organized by him saw good attendance of opposition MPs.
