Two arrested for planning terrorist attacks in Delhi-NCR; Recruited by ISI proxy Shahzad Bhatti

New Delhi: Special Sale Delhi Police has arrested two persons allegedly linked to Pakistan-based gangster and ISI proxy Shehzad Bhatti. Officials said on Tuesday that the module was planning firing incidents, grenade blasts and targeted killings in the Delhi-NCR region.Acting on intelligence inputs, police registered a case on March 31 after indications of a grenade blast and a conspiracy to carry out planned killings emerged in the area.Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Praveen Kumar Tripathi said in a statement, “Their arrest foiled planned attacks in the national capital and surrounding areas. The arrests unearthed a larger conspiracy hatched by Bhatti, who in connivance with other ISI-linked handlers, was recruiting youth through social media platforms and deploying them for targeted acts of violence in Delhi-NCR.”The accused Rajveer (21) and Vivek Banjara (19), residents of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, were detained during an operation coordinated by the Special Cell.Vivek Banjara was first caught from Dabra in Gwalior on 16 April. During interrogation, he gave information about Rajveer, after which the police arrested Rajveer from Sarai Kale Khan area of ​​Delhi on 18 April.Investigators said Rajveer was planning an attack on a famous hotel in the Delhi-NCR region under the instructions of his handler Shehzad Bhatti at the time of his arrest. Police recovered a pistol and six live cartridges from him. Two mobile phones with video and voice recordings related to the conspiracy were also seized.Officials said Rajveer had entered Bhatti’s network through social media and was working under a handler named “Rana Bhai”. “He allegedly played a central role in coordinating movements, collecting weapons and carrying out planned attacks,” the officer said.Vivek Banjara was reportedly inducted into the group through Rajveer and was assigned supporting roles including logistics and surveillance.According to the police, both the youth were gradually recruited by luring them with quick financial benefits.On April 9, both the accused went to Amritsar where they allegedly recovered a pistol, about 15-20 rounds of ammunition and Rs 20,000. He was assigned the task of firing at a club in Zirakpur, Punjab, which had reportedly received extortion threats from Bhatti.Police said, “On April 11, Rajveer allegedly attempted to fire but failed due to a mechanical problem in the weapon. Vivek recorded a video of the incident to send to his handler. Rajveer later hid the weapon while returning to Delhi and shared his location with Bhatti.”Police further said that Rajveer later visited Punjab, collected another firearm and ammunition and returned to the Delhi-NCR region. The investigation into the wider network is ongoing.
