‘Don’t forget that you work in BJP states’: Suvendu Adhikari warns in Bengal | india news
Nandigram: Leader of Opposition in Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari has warned Muslim migrant workers in Nandigram that “they will have to return to BJP-ruled states” for work after the assembly elections. Saying that more than 30,000 people from Nandigram are employed in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Odisha, the official took aim at Muslims and said they “cannot afford to make a mistake”. “There are 30,000 migrant workers… In Gujarat, there are 1,100 Muslim youths from Nandigram; 800 in Odisha and 3,300 in Maharashtra. Whose government is there in Odisha? Whose government is there in Maharashtra? Whose government is there in Gujarat? BJP‘S! Don’t make a mistake! Mend your ways… so that there is no problem after May 4 (counting day). You can give a threatening look and say ‘Joy Bangla’, but I’m writing everything down,” he said. This comment was criticized by TMC. Its Nandigram candidate Pabitra Kar, while campaigning, said Adhikari’s politics is based only on “threats and fear”. “As an elected representative, it is his responsibility that everyone in his constituency lives in peace. He has done exactly the opposite. But Nandigram residents will respond to his threats in EVMs,” Kar told TOI. A Trinamool spokesperson said the party would report the matter to the Election Commission. Meanwhile, an analysis by Kolkata-based public policy research organization Sabar Institute said that 95.5% of the names removed from the voter list of Nandigram in SIR are Muslims, even though they constitute about 25% of the constituency’s population. It said only 4.5% of those deported were non-Muslims.
