New Delhi: An Air India co-pilot has been deported from the US after he was allegedly found carrying marijuana in his bag. The pilot was traveling as staff on duty (in the passenger cabin) on the Delhi-San Francisco flight to operate the return flight on Tuesday.People in the know say that upon arrival in San Francisco, US officials allegedly found marijuana in his bag. After this he was not allowed to leave the airport. The airline was informed and it was decided to fly him back to India on the next available flight.Air India has informed the DGCA and the co-pilot was flying back to Delhi on Thursday.An AI spokesperson said: “One of our crew members, who traveled from Delhi to San Francisco on April 14, was found inadmissible as per local laws for status to operate the next flight and has been flown back to India. Air India has zero-tolerance towards any violation of law and maintains the highest standards of safety, compliance and professional conduct. Appropriate strict disciplinary action will be taken as per prescribed company policies. Ensuring safety, as always, remains Air India’s number one priority.”“The pilot had not consumed marijuana and it was reportedly found in his possession,” people in the know said.
