Pingla in Paschim Medinipur district is currently represented in the West Bengal Assembly by Ajit Maiti of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). Road connectivity between villages and markets, upgrading government schools and health centres, and controlling seasonal migration for work are concerns repeatedly raised in district-level livelihood assessments. Pingla Ghatal is a general (non-reserved) seat under the Lok Sabha constituency, represented by TMC MP Deepak Adhikari (Dev), who retained the parliamentary seat in 2024 with a margin of over 1.8 lakh votes, strengthening Trinamool’s organizational lead in this belt. Historically, the region was a stronghold of the Democratic Socialist Party (Prabodh Chandra) before its decisive shift to the TMC since 2016, marking a significant shift in centre-rural politics here.
