PM Modi said, “For the last 15 years, West Bengal has witnessed misgovernance, anarchy and corruption, which have deprived the common people of their basic rights, dignity and the rich cultural heritage of the state.” He said the current environment has compromised “the safety of mothers and sisters, employment opportunities for youth and the rights of the poor”.Referring to the state’s heritage, PM Modi said West Bengal had once shown a new direction to the country and called for collective resolve to create a “developed West Bengal”.“Let us all come together and pledge to create a ‘developed West Bengal’ where no poor sleeps hungry, everyone gets food, women feel safe and can step out of their homes without any fear and youth do not need to leave the state in search of employment,” he said.The Prime Minister also linked the state’s future to the outcome of the upcoming assembly elections, and said the BJP government will bring West Bengal back on the path of development.He wrote, “I assure you that after the formation of the BJP government in the state, West Bengal will move forward on the path of development along with the rest of the country and will regain its place as a ‘developed state’ in history.”Describing the election as a defining moment, PM Modi urged voters to “take the right decision”, calling it a “battle between truth and lies” and appealed to participate in what he described as a “festival of democracy”.The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the people of West Bengal will support the BJP and termed it a “historic victory”.Voting is to be held in West Bengal in two phases on 23 and 29 April, the counting of which will take place on 4 May. In the 2021 assembly elections, Trinamool Congress won a landslide victory with 213 seats, while BJP won 77 seats. Congress and Left failed to open their accounts.
