IPL 2026: Will Rohit Sharma play MI vs SRH? Big update gives fans hope for injury comeback

Rohit Sharma’s return remains a topic of great discussion before Mumbai Indians’ match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. With MI struggling to settle their top order in his absence, fans are still waiting for clarity on whether the former skipper will take the field or not.

However, the franchise has not closed the door on his return. As per the latest update, the final decision on Rohit’s availability will be taken at the time of toss on the match day itself.

“He is making steady progress. Any decision on his availability (in the match against SRH) will be taken at the time of the toss tomorrow,” an MI spokesperson said.

Rohit’s absence is being felt for the last few matches. MI has tried many combinations at the top, but none have been quite successful, leaving a glaring gap in both consistency and intent.

Why is Rohit Sharma not playing?

Rohit has been out of action after suffering a hamstring injury during MI’s home loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 12.

Since then, MI have struggled to find an established opening pair. Options like Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton and Danish Malevar have been rotated, but the results have not been consistent.

Notably, Malevar has struggled registering scores of 2 and 0 in his last two matches. The lack of stability at the top has affected MI’s starts, putting pressure on the middle order.

Despite missing the last three matches, Rohit remains MI’s fourth-highest run-scorer this season, with 137 runs at an average of 45.66 and a strike rate of 165, underscoring his importance to the team.

Will Rohit Sharma play in MI VS SRH?

As things stand, Rohit’s participation is still uncertain and will depend on his fitness assessment closer to the match.

The MI camp remains cautiously optimistic, indicating it is making good progress but not yet committing to a definite comeback. The final decision will be taken at the time of the toss, keeping fans guessing till the last moment.

With Mitchell Santner already out due to injury and Keshav Maharaj replacing him, MI are already dealing with selection challenges. There is also uncertainty over Will Jacks’ place in the eleven despite his strong record in similar conditions.

Matua: ‘When you clean your house, some glasses break’: SIR rescue of Subrata Thakur in Matua bastion | india news

Subrata, grandson of PR Thakur and Matua matriarch Baroma Binapani Devi, explains how his family prioritized not only social dignity but also education and employment to ensure the upliftment of the community. Incidentally, PR Thakur was the first barrister from the deprived Namasudra community. TOI met Subrata at the sprawling Thakurbari complex in Thakurnagar, Gaighata, North 24 Parganas, where he is the sitting MLA and BJP Candidates for the April 29 election. But this election is more complicated than before for him and other BJP leaders from the Matua belt. Along with the scorching heat of April, they are facing political heat from the massive voter-list deletion under SIR.Subrata does not deny the restlessness. But he emphasizes that these are not actual exclusions, saying most of the cases relate to the earlier SIR in 2002. According to him, the problem was caused by glitches, missing uploads and political sabotage. He says that BJP is helping people to fill Form 6 and get their names restored. His message to the community is simple, don’t panic, you are safe in India, CAA is there, and BJP will take back your names. Then comes the line that could define the BJP’s defense in the region. “When you clean your house, sometimes some glass gets broken,” he says. Subrata explains how Partition, migration, refugee life and the long struggle for documents shaped the community. Even after seven decades of independence, that struggle has not ended completely. The numbers show why the concern is real. Of the 142 assembly seats that went to polls in the second phase, 12,87,622 voters were removed during the judicial decision. In North 24 Parganas, the district with the highest Matua population, 5,91,252 voters were held under adjudication and 3,25,666 were disqualified. In the Bongaon belt, the damage is more acute politically. In Gaighata, the second phase count put the number of post-judicial deletions at 19,638. Of the 13,459 cases identified in Baghdad, 5,890 were quarantined, with 15,303 people quarantined out of a total of 263,142 voters in the constituency. TOI has earlier reported that 36,000 of those removed in four Matua-heavy constituencies belong to the community. In Nadia, Matua dominated Ranaghat North East and Ranaghat South saw 20,796 and 17,411 deletions, respectively. The CAA, often touted as a lifeline, is more complex at the ground level. The help center located in Thakurbari complex looked deserted. Some locals say that the applications have hit a bottleneck. Others say that many Matuas have not applied because doing so would be an admission that they are not already citizens of India. Asked about the delay, Subrata says the Union Home Ministry is doing detailed cross-checking.This is now BJP’s big pitch in Matua belt. Both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have returned to the Matua question in recent times, promising citizenship, documents and protection to Hindu families of refugee origin. PM Modi mentioned his visit to Orakandi, the birthplace of Harichand Thakur in Bangladesh, and promised citizenship for Matua and Namasudra families. Amit Shah has held Mamata Banerjee responsible for the removal of Matua name and accused TMC of spreading fear.TMC has turned the same issue into an allegation of betrayal. In Haringhata, Abhishek Banerjee accused the BJP of humiliating and depriving the Matuas after promising them citizenship and jobs. He said the BJP is shedding “crocodile tears” for the community and claimed that the TMC stands with the voters removed from the SIR form-fill-up kiosks to the Supreme Court.Mamata Banerjee has framed SIR as a big identity fight. During the campaign in Chakdah, Bongaon and Habra, he called the practice the “got-up game” and compared it to Chaitra sales, saying that some members of a family were involved while others were not. In Kolkata, concluding his campaign, he asked voters to “once again stand in line” and use the ballot to teach the BJP a lesson.Subrata rejected the allegation. He says the fear is being created by TMC, which is telling people that those whose names are missing will be chased away. He also accused the Mamata Banerjee government of helping Bangladeshis through fake documents. After this he returns to Matua history. He talks of a time when the Matuas were denied respect, treated as Chandalas, pushed to the margins of villages and denied the right to worship with respect. Invoking Harichand Thakur and Guruchand Thakur, he said that this movement was built not only around faith but also around education, work and self-respect.That history is at the center of politics here. The Matuas, who came primarily from the Namasudra caste and whose roots are in present-day Bangladesh, found both a spiritual center and a political base in Thakurnagar. Subrata says his grandfather PR Thakur, while part of the Congress, ensured major improvements in infrastructure and education in the region. But he blames the non-extension of the Nehru-Liaquat Pact for leaving those who came later struggling for citizenship. In the last few elections, the BJP has taken advantage of this insecurity through the promise of CAA. The result was clear. In 2021, BJP won four Matua-heavy assembly seats in Bongaon subdivision, which are Gaighata, Bagdah, Bongaon North and Bongaon South. She remained ahead among the four in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections also. It also performed strongly in the Matua-dominated areas of Nadia. The Matuas, the second largest Scheduled Caste group in Bengal, are estimated to influence 50 to 70 assembly seats. But this time, BJP is defending that base under pressure. Subrata underestimates Mamata’s reach to the community. She says she came to Baroma before 2011 because she needed Matua votes, but after Muslim support became stronger, the Matuas became indispensable to her.The atmosphere on the ground is mixed. Some voters say their names are intact and the BJP will be fine. Others say that one member of the family has been removed while the rest remain. Some people still trust BJP to solve the problem. Others say many of those affected were BJP supporters, and anger over being removed may now push a section towards TMC. The atmosphere in Thakurnagar, just outside the campus, was also gloomy. There is also Thakurbari partition there.Subrata Thakur is contesting from BJP in Gaighata. In nearby Bagdah, the BJP has fielded Soma Thakur, wife of Union minister Shantanu Thakur, against Madhuparna Thakur, daughter of Rajya Sabha MP Mamata Bala Thakur and sitting TMC MLA. Shantanu is the younger brother of Subrata. The once undivided Matua federation is now divided into factions, and Mamata Bala’s faction has not supported the CAA for its followers. So it is not just BJP vs TMC. It is also a fight within the most influential Matua family of Bengal. In Thakurnagar, the question is not just whether the names come back. The point is whether the trust returns with them or not. For years, the BJP told the Matuas that this would end their uncertainty. SIR has brought that uncertainty back into the campaign. Therefore Subrata’s line may stretch long. “When you clean your house, sometimes some glass gets broken.” Broken glass always leaves a mark. Whether this will leave any stain on BJP’s fortunes or not, the answer will be known on May 4.

Greece: 89-year-old man arrested, 4 injured after shooting at Athens social security office, courthouse
A policeman talks to a woman outside a court after a gunman opened fire and injured several people in Athens

Greek police on Tuesday arrested an 89-year-old man accused of carrying out two separate shootings in Athens that injured at least four people, officials said. After being at large for several hours, the suspect was detained in the port city of Patras, about 200 kilometers west of the capital. He was tracked to a hotel near a bus station and found with a weapon, according to state broadcaster ERT, quoted by the Associated Press.According to AFP, the shooting was reportedly caused by complaints related to pension payments, and the suspect was also believed to have psychological problems. Authorities are investigating documents he allegedly left in court that reveal his motives.Police said the man first opened fire at a social security office in the Keramikos area of central Athens, wounding an employee.

Please save me!” Stuck between life and death, Rajesh Mishra Facing the knife, she shouted into the phone, her voice strained.Rajesh Mishra, a supervisor, was seriously injured when he pleaded with Subroto Sen, a guard, who himself survived a fatal knife attack by Zaib Zubair Ansari. The wounded Subroto Sen had fled behind the building and was waiting in distress for what was about to happen.Narrating to police the sequence of events that fateful night in Mumbai’s Mira Road in which he and his supervisor were seriously injured, Subroto Sen claimed that 31-year-old Zaib Zuber Ansari had come to him hours before with a murderous intention.“He asked, ‘Is there a mosque ahead?’ I said, ‘Yes, there is a mosque ahead on the right.’ Then he asked, ‘What is the name of the mosque?’ I told him, ‘I don’t know the name of the mosque.’ Then Zuber asked, ‘Are you a Hindu?’ “I replied ‘yes’,” Sen said, according to news agency IANS. He said that the accused left first. But hours later, around 4 pm, when Subroto headed towards a tea stall, he saw Zuber there again. At 4.30 in the morning, as he returned to his duty post, he started feeling uneasy. Zuber was following him! Before he could react, the accused allegedly took out a knife, grabbed Subroto’s arm and attacked him. Subroto tried to retaliate, but was injured before he could be stabbed. In an attempt to escape, he pushed away the attacker and ran towards the cabin of his supervisor Rajkumar Mishra.“However, Zuber also entered the cabin. Mishra was sitting on a chair inside. Before I could explain the situation or he could understand what was happening, Zuber – on seeing Mishra – immediately demanded, ‘You are also a Hindu, right? If not, read the Kalma.’ Mishra was unable to read Kalma. After this Zuber started attacking him continuously with the knife. “Being seated on a chair, Mishra was unable to defend himself effectively,” Subroto said.Fearing for his life, Subroto ran towards the back of the building. He reportedly asked them to recite the Kalma, an important Islamic declaration of faith, before launching the attack.Ansari has been detained in connection with the attack, during which he allegedly interrogated the victims about their religious identity before attacking them with a knife, in what investigators suspect may have been a lone wolf-style incident carried out by a radicalized individual. The victims, Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Sen, suffered serious injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Mishra managed to reach the hospital on his own despite his condition, while Sen was helped by Nayab Shaikh, a local resident. After the attack, police moved quickly and scanned CCTV footage of the area to trace the suspect. Ansari was tracked down and captured within about 90 minutes. He was later taken to Naya Nagar police station, where a case was registered against him under charges including attempt to murder and promoting enmity between communities.Following his arrest, Ansari was produced before a Thane court, which sent him to police custody till May 4.The scope of the investigation has since expanded, with local police working closely with the state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). Investigators are examining the electronic devices seized from the accused to ascertain whether the attack was an isolated act or part of a larger design.Initial findings, according to IANS report, point to notes containing references to “ISIS”, “lone wolf”, “jihad” and “Gaza”.The agency also claimed that Ansari has spent several years in the United States, where his family members live. He returned to India after reportedly failing to secure steady employment.Back in India, he lived alone in Mira Road and earned a living by taking online chemistry classes.Investigators suspect that he may have been radicalized through material accessed online.

5 countries from Mexico to Australia that depict the icon on their banknotes

representative image

Australia

Australia is known around the world for its dedication to gender equality on its banknotes. By including a different woman on one side of each denomination currently in vogue, the country ensures to strike the right balance of representation from its history, including female leaders.Beginning with the first lady’s appearance as Queen Elizabeth II on the $5 note on February 14, 1966, other prominent women have included businesswoman Mary Riebe, social reformer Dame Mary Gilmore, opera legend Dame Nellie Melba, and political pioneer Edith Cowan.

England

England has represented important women on its banknotes, often choosing them from its literary and royal history. Queen Elizabeth II was the first woman to appear on a Bank of England banknote, with her portrait appearing in 1960. Another prominent woman on the currency of England includes Jane Austen, whose novels had a lasting impact on English literature.

Canada

Canada has worked tirelessly to include more women in its wealth to better represent the country’s history and diversity. Viola Desmond, a civil rights activist who fought against racial segregation, was introduced on currency notes in 2018, and Queen Elizabeth II has appeared on Canadian coins since 1953. Canada does this to show how important women have been to its democracy and how they will continue to be.

Mexico

Mexico has chosen to honor its diverse cultural history by including globally recognized women on its currency. One of the most famous examples is the 17th-century intellectual Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, who currently appears on the 100-peso banknote introduced in the late 1970s, recognizing her status as one of Mexico’s most important poets and philosophers who broke down barriers for women in literature and education.

Samoa

While people expect such changes from larger countries, smaller countries like Samoa have also used their own currency to honor local leaders of great importance to their community. In 2023, Samoa launched a commemorative 60-tala banknote featuring Fiame Naomi Matafafa, making her the first woman to appear on the country’s currency. She served as the seventh Prime Minister of Samoa from 2021 to 2025, and remains a prominent figure in the country’s modern political history.

2,000-year-old Roman tool discovered in Czech Republic could rewrite ancient engineering history world News

2,000-year-old Roman tool discovered in Czech Republic could rewrite ancient engineering history

A rare Roman calibration plate was unearthed in Nezamyslis and Kojetin during extensive rescue excavation work associated with the construction of the high-speed railway line. The Archaeological Center of Olomouc (ACO) is carrying out rescue excavations for the project. This exceptionally well-preserved artifact is believed to have been used to make wire through the wire-drawing technique. All excavation sites yielded over 1,000 archaeological features ranging from the Early Bronze Age to the Roman Imperial period. Experts predict that this unique tool will provide important insights into ancient manufacturing methods, as well as possibly explaining how Roman legionnaires made their famous chainmail. Current research is being conducted on the artefact at ACO to determine its metallurgical composition and learn about its connection to trade networks in areas outside the formal northern borders of the Roman Empire.

A rare 2,000-year-old Roman metallurgical tool uncovered that shows advanced technology

As for the local manufacture or repair of advanced military equipment such as chainmail in the area occupied by Germanic tribes, the important discovery of a special metal calibration plate from the dig site is of great importance in providing evidence of advanced Roman metalworking technology being transmitted or put into use outside the Empire, as noted. Archaeological Center Olomouc (ACO).

A multi-millennium record of the Hana River valley

ACO carried out rescue excavation of the area, which extended by more than 1.2 kilometers in length as a result of the construction upgrade of the Brno–Přerov railway line, especially the section of the high-speed railway line from Nezamyslice to Kojetin. In addition to Roman period tools, the site contained a large number of remains that demonstrated the history of human occupation in the Hana River valley for thousands of years, and evidence of the Vetsov and Urnfield cultures was discovered at the site. Archaeologists have also recorded a variety of historical features, including the remains of later houses, lime kilns, and several ritual sites.

Mapping economic networks through Bronze Age evidence

The Archaeological Center of Olomouc is now home to all the artefacts that have been recovered, including calibration plates, stone casting molds and crucibles. Due to the large number of objects, they are now being prepared for conservation and study. Experts are performing spectrometric analysis on calibration plates to look for traces of materials produced by the objects, which could help show that the object was used to make the wire. The researchers are also examining stone molds collected during this project and correlating them with local workshops to understand whether they were production centers for specialized bronze objects, thus creating a better understanding of how ancient communities engaged in larger economic and technological systems.
