New Delhi: Farewell of Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha Along with six other members, he has made significant changes in the composition of the Upper House, strengthening the ruling BJP-led NDA while sharply reducing the presence of the Aam Aadmi Party. The move has also shocked the opposition camp, whose numbers have dropped from 84 to 77 following the AAP split. After the merger of the MPs who broke away from AAP, the BJP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha has increased from 106 to 113, further strengthening its position in the House. The total number of members in the Upper House is 245.

“Right man, wrong party”: Raghav Chadha leaves AAP along with 6 MPs; End of Kejriwal’s Rajya Sabha power?
In contrast, AAP’s strength has dropped from 10 to just three. The development comes after Chadha along with fellow MPs Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal announced their decision to quit AAP and join BJP, triggering a widening split within the party. MPs including Swati Maliwal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta and Vikram Sawhney are also part of the group that supported the move. While announcing the decision, Chadha had sharply criticized his former party. He said, “The Aam Aadmi Party, which I nurtured with my blood and sweat and to which I gave 15 years of my youth, has now completely deviated from its principles, values and core morality. The party is no longer working in the interest of the country or national, but for personal gain.”He also said that this division had the support of most of the AAP MPs in the Upper House. “We have decided that we, two-thirds of the AAP members in the Rajya Sabha, will invoke the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP,” Chadha said.
NDA benefits, BJP’s position strengthened
With the addition of seven MPs, the BJP has further strengthened its position in the Rajya Sabha with 113 members. The broader National Democratic Alliance (NDA) continues to maintain a comfortable lead, with allies like the four-member Janata Dal (United) and the five-member AIADMK supporting the alliance.
AAP was reduced to just three MPs
For the AAP, the split has resulted in a dramatic decline in its parliamentary strength. The party now has only three MPs left: Sanjay Singh, ND Gupta and Balbir Singh Seechewal.Sanjay Singh, who remains the party’s most vocal face in Parliament, has strongly criticized the defectors, accusing them of division in the BJP. He alleged that central agencies were being used as part of a larger political strategy and termed the outgoing MPs as ‘traitors’.He said, “Operation Lotus is being carried out against the Punjab government… ED and CBI are being used to carry out this Operation Lotus… The people of Punjab will never forget these traitors.”
influence on opposition group
This change has also affected the opposition camp, of which AAP is a part. After the exit of seven MPs, the combined strength of the block in the Rajya Sabha has now come down to 77 members, which was earlier 84.The bloc is led by Congress (29 members), followed by Trinamool Congress (13) and DMK (8), along with parties like Samajwadi Party (4), CPI (M) (3), RJD (3), Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (3), CPI (2), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (2), IUML (2), NCP (4) and AAP (3).
a political turn
The development marks a major political turning point for the AAP, which has steadily built its presence in the Rajya Sabha in recent years. The sudden departure of two-thirds of the MPs not only affects its numerical strength but also raises questions on the internal unity within the party. For the BJP, this gain has further strengthened its position in the Upper House, giving it more space to pursue its legislative agenda with less reliance on outside support.
Fastest growing startup on the way to explode: Future tense for AAP as Raghav Chadha flees Rajya Sabha india news
New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal-led party faced one of the biggest internal shocks on Friday Raghav ChadhaAt one time, there was a massive exodus from Rajya Sabha to Bharatiya Janata Party due to its rising star and Kejriwal’s favorite boy.Raghav Chadha’s murmurs of dissent turned into a full-blown rebellion. Chadha didn’t just walk away, he also took with him a major chunk of AAP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha, pushing the party into one of its most serious crises since its birth in 2012.Raghav Chaddha’s rebellion has made AAP “injured”.The fissures, long hidden beneath the surface, came to the fore after Chadha was removed from the post of deputy leader in the Upper House, a post handed over to Ashok Mittal, who has since joined the rebellion.

The fastest-growing political startup, which formed three consecutive governments in Delhi, two of them with historic mandates, and later came to power in Punjab within just 15 years of its formation, is now facing internal dissent. Its own leaders are openly questioning “Kejriwal’s brand of politics” and accusing him of moving away from “honest politics” in the tone of rebellion. What’s next for AAP?
faces of rebellion
The exodus includes several high-profile names, including Swati Maliwal, who had already walked away from the party in 2024 after Vibhav Kumar accused him of physical assault at the official residence of then chief minister Kejriwal. The breakaway group also includes cricketer-turned-Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh as well as Sandeep Pathak, Rajinder Gupta and Vikramjit Singh Sahni, who add weight and visibility to the rebellion.

Standing before the media, Chadha reacted sharply, calling himself “the right man in the wrong party” before formally joining the party. BJP At its headquarters in New Delhi.
figures that shake the party
But the real shock is in the figures. In a surprise show of strength, six other AAP MPs have joined Chadha, taking the party’s total of 10 MPs to seven in the Rajya Sabha. For the Aam Aadmi Party, this is not just a rebellion; Due to this, his presence in the Upper House is almost going to end.Announcing the move, Chadha said that two-thirds of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MPs have decided to merge with the BJP.“We have decided that we, two-thirds of the AAP members in the Rajya Sabha, will exercise the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP,” he said at a press conference with Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal at the Constitution Club.Explaining his decision, Chadha accused the party of deviating from its founding ideals. He said, “AAP, whom I nurtured with my blood and sweat and gave 15 years of my youth, has deviated from its principles, values and core morality. Now this party works not in the interest of the country but for its personal gains… For the last few years, I was feeling that I was the right man in the wrong party. Therefore, today, we announce that I am distancing myself from AAP and coming closer to the public.”

Meanwhile, Kejriwal immediately reacted saying that the move was orchestrated by the BJP and said, “BJP has betrayed Punjabis again.”
From anti-corruption campaign to internal rebellion
The irony is hard to ignore. A party born out of Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement, which once promised to replace “traditional” politics with a model of “new politics”, is now being accused by its own leaders of abandoning those ideals. The outsider who challenged the system is now battling a rebellion from within that threatens to shake its foundations.
Delhi’s defeat: the turning point
Not long ago, the Kejriwal brigade suffered a defeat at the hands of the BJP in Delhi, dealing a major blow to AAP’s national prestige and influence.Limited to governing only Punjab under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and with limited presence in Parliament, AAP was already on the backfoot. Friday’s rebellion has further reduced its strength in the Rajya Sabha, deepening the crisis. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, AAP won only 3 seats in Punjab. Now with the revised Rajya Sabha numbers, AAP is left with a total of 6 MPs to raise their concerns in Parliament.
From meteoric rise to political decline
The twin shocks of 2025 and 2026, first the Delhi defeat and now this massive exodus, have pushed AAP to its weakest phase ever.Emerging from the anti-corruption wave, AAP positioned itself as a subversive, challenging the Congress establishment under the leadership of Manmohan Singh at the Center and under long-serving Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in Delhi. In its first election contest, AAP surprised the political class. Kejriwal ousted Sheila Dikshit from office, ending her 15-year rule and defeated her in the New Delhi constituency. This was followed by a tremendous increase – 67 seats out of 70 in 2015 and 62 seats in 2020.But by 2025 the tables have turned. The BJP made a comeback in Delhi after a drought of more than two decades, dangerously reducing AAP’s tally to 22 seats and appointing Rekha Gupta as chief minister.
disputes and cracks within
Announcing his exit, Chadha inserted himself squarely into the BJP narrative, taking aim at his former boss Kejriwal, and accusing AAP of prioritizing “personal gains” over “national interest”. His departure and the scale of support behind him have heightened those allegations.Over the years, the top leadership of AAP including Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay SinghAnd Satyendra Jain had to face investigation by agencies like ED and CBI. The prison sentences and investigations, although some subsequent court cases were weakened, tarnished the party’s anti-corruption image.Interestingly, Chadha remained largely away from these controversies. Even during Kejriwal’s stay in jail and his subsequent reprieve, he maintained a remarkable distance – giving rise to speculations of growing internal rifts. After the exit of Raghav Chadha and other rebel MPs Aam Aadmi PartyParty leader in Rajya Sabha Sanjay Singh led the charge and launched a scathing attack on the BJP, alleging that a coordinated effort was being made to weaken and destabilize the party through central agencies like ED and CBI.

Reacting strongly to the development, Singh said, “Bharatiya Janata Party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have started their ‘Operation Lotus’ to stop the good work of Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab. 7 of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MPs are joining BJP. People of Punjab should remember these 7 names. People will never forgive these ‘traitors’ of Punjab.”
Punjab: the next battlefield
Now the focus has shifted to Punjab.Chadha played a key role in AAP’s landslide victory in 2022, helping the party reach 92 seats out of 117, up from 20 seats in 2017. The victory ousted the Charanjit Singh Channi-led Congress government and installed AAP’s second full-time government after Delhi.

Now, with the exit of Chadha and several MPs associated with Punjab, cracks may start appearing.Meanwhile, Chief Minister and Kejriwal loyalist Bhagwant Mann hit back strongly, calling the departing leaders “traitors” and dismissing their prospects in the BJP. He also accused the BJP of trying to expand its presence in Punjab through defection.Still, the political equations are changing. Since Congress is still the main opposition and BJP has now got the support of former AAP faces, the contest may intensify. There is a special kind of political irony in this.Just as AAP had emerged by uprooting Congress from Delhi in 2013 to Punjab in 2022, similarly now BJP has defeated AAP in Delhi. Now the question is, is Punjab next for BJP?
‘Hindu identity is civilizational, not religious’: RSS general secretary in America Hosabale india news
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale rejected allegations of Hindu supremacism and talked about India’s global image during an interaction at the Hudson Institute in Washington DC on Thursday (local time).Speaking about the functioning of the RSS, Hosabale said, “RSS is a people’s voluntary movement inspired by the cultural ethos and civilizational values of the ancient society of India, commonly known as Hindu culture… To groom volunteers with character, self-confidence, spirit of service to the community and to mobilize the society, the RSS organizes daily sabhas and weekly sabhas for one hour.“He further said, “Through these one-hour gatherings, we inculcate values of life… to create human social capital for the purpose of betterment of society and unity of the nation… RSS provides services like relief activities during natural calamities… RSS volunteers have created civic institutions numbering around 40.”Clarifying the organization’s view on identity, he said, “In the RSS view, Hindu identity is a civilizational identity, not a religious one… The RSS has always emphasized cultural ethos and civilizational values, which have nothing to do directly with any religion.”Responding to claims of the RSS being a Hindu supremacist organisation, he said, “Hindu philosophy and culture is not always supremacist… We see unity in everyone, be it a living thing or a non-living thing. When this is the basic philosophy of Hindus, the supremacist nature of Hindus cannot be there.” In history, Hindus never invaded any country or enslaved anyone. Hindus have nothing to apologize for.”Hosabale also talked about the global perception of India, saying, “America’s misconception is not just about the RSS… America’s misconception about India is that it is overpopulated, full of slums, poverty and it is a land of snakes, slums and lords. India is also a tech hub… India is the fourth largest economy in the world.”He further said, “These things have somehow been lost in the general American perception. The narrative that has been created about the RSS too, knowingly or unknowingly or as part of an agenda, is that the RSS is a Hindu supremacist and in a way is anti-Christian, anti-minority, anti-women’s development and anti-modernization. What it stands for is not always conveyed.”On regional tensions and dialogue, Hosabale said, “There have been tensions from time to time due to political interests, misinterpretation of history and other mechanisms. The RSS believes that continued and wide-ranging dialogue with all these groups will certainly help in removing misunderstandings… The RSS is engaged in such dialogue with a group of minorities and their leadership. He further said, “The tension between the neighboring countries is due to various reasons, due to the political leadership of the neighboring countries. Reciprocity and trust have been damaged many times in the last decades… The problem is only with a neighboring country, which is born from the womb of India. It has become a neighboring country, but many people are behind that country to create problems.”“

7 out of 10 AAP MPs in Rajya Sabha join BJP: Why this number matters. india news
New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha’s announcement of leaving the Aam Aadmi Party and joining the Bharatiya Janata Party was not an isolated move. This was linked to specific constitutional provisions that included words such as “two-thirds” and “merger”.“Addressing a press conference, he said, “We have decided that we, two-thirds of the AAP members in the Rajya Sabha, will exercise the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP.”
Here’s why it matters:
If at least two-thirds of the members of a party in the House agree to the merger with another party, then it is considered a valid merger and not defection. In such cases, members are not disqualified under the anti-defection law, making this provision important in group-level political realignments announced by MPs.At present Aam Aadmi Party has 10 MPs in Rajya Sabha. After this step, merger of two-thirds i.e. 7 with BJP is certain. If this number was less, then those wishing to merge would have to give up their membership of the Upper House. Therefore, if Chadha had stepped down alone, he would have had to give up his Rajya Sabha membership. But this is not so because along with the outgoing AAP leader, Swati Maliwal, Harbhajan Singh, Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, Rajinder Gupta and Vikram Sahni are also included. The purpose of the anti-defection law under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution is to prevent MPs from changing parties after being elected and to maintain stability in Parliament, including the Rajya Sabha. There is a provision for disqualification if a member voluntarily leaves the party membership or votes against the party whip. The decision on disqualification in the Rajya Sabha is taken by the Chairman on the basis of a petition by another member. However, the law also includes an exception for mergers, where the “two-thirds” condition becomes important.

Women shine in 21km with poise and consistency in the 30-39 age group. india news
In the 21K race, the 30-39 age group distinguished themselves through balance and control. A distance that tests both stamina and discipline, it requires runners to manage pace and maintain effort – and this group performed with remarkable consistency.

Frida Parnas and Sonali Gupta scored composed and consistent runs, maintaining their rhythm with focus and clarity throughout the course. His performances were defined not by sudden explosions, but by steady control from beginning to end.Adding further depth to the category, Sonali Gupta and GS Divya reflected on journeys shaped by sustainability and adaptability.

Since 2022, Sonali has consistently maintained her running routine, gradually increasing her distances. An important milestone came on 31 December 2025, when he completed a 15K+ race. Despite suffering injuries, he continued training – adopting his approach and learning how to maintain his running. He has also completed his first half marathon in Cognizant Run, while maintaining a weekly routine of 35-40 kilometers.Meanwhile, GS Divya, a doctor by profession, started running regularly with her husband and had earlier been a part of small marathons. Over time, running became an integral part of her daily routine – something that fit naturally into her life rather than being apart of it. His racing reflects that mentality – measured, balanced and based on stability. What sets this range apart isn’t just the performance, but how it holds up across the distance. These runners understand that 21K isn’t about pushing harder at every moment, but about maintaining a rhythm that lasts.Calm. balanced. controlled. They’re not chasing extremes – they’re building stamina in a way that’s practical, sustainable, and in line with their everyday lives. And this is what makes his performance powerful.Because in the 30-39 age group, the 21K isn’t just about stamina – it’s about being persistent, even when the distance starts to test you.
