India moves closer to opening up nuclear power sector to foreign investment after AEC approves FDI policy: Officials
Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant

New Delhi: India is moving closer to opening up its nuclear power sector to foreign investment, with the Atomic Energy Commission approving a new foreign direct investment (FDI) framework, an official indicated.Speaking at a workshop in Delhi recently, Seema S Jain, Member (Finance), Department of Atomic Energy, said the policy is part of a broader effort to mobilize large-scale financing to increase nuclear power capacity. “The Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) has approved the FDI policy and it is going for ministerial consultation,” he said. He also pointed to the advantages of a “fleet mode” approach, where multiple reactors are developed at the same site to speed up approval and construction timelines.India aims to increase its nuclear power capacity to 100 GW by 2047, which will require massive investment. Despite policy progress, NTPC has seen lower than expected interest from private companies, indicating challenges in bringing in external capital. The proposed FDI policy, backed by the recently enacted Peace Act 2025, aims to garner investments of up to Rs 20 lakh crore from foreign players to accelerate the construction of nuclear reactors. On December 21 last year, the Act was enacted and notified as a single, coherent law, with provisions for private sector participation to drive research and innovations for peaceful applications of nuclear energy under licensing and safety authorisation. The Department of Atomic Energy said in a recent statement that the main reason for the slow expansion of nuclear power capacity in India in the initial days was the technology development stage, coupled with limited availability of resources and having to go through international sanctions and technology denial regimes.

IPL 2026, PBKS vs LSG: Ricky Ponting hugs Shashank Singh, vents anger over fielding flaws

Ricky Ponting was upset with Shashank Singh’s fielding during Punjab Kings’ 54-run win over Lucknow Supergiants in the Indian Premier League 2026 match at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, April 19.

Shashank dropped two catches and was guilty of a few lapses in the field, leading Ponting to express his frustration from the dugout.

pbks vs lsg, IPL 2026: highlighted | Achievement:

However, once PBKS confirmed the victoryThe mood changed. Ponting was seen hugging Shashank as Punjab players celebrated, bringing a warm end to an otherwise tense episode.

With the victory, Punjab Kings have strengthened their hold on the top of the points table. They remained unbeaten in six matches with five wins, 11 points and a net run rate of +1.420.

How Shashank Singh fought

Shashank Singh had a tough day in the field, with a number of costly mistakes taking the shine off Punjab Kings’ strong performance. The problems started when he missed a big chance off Nicholas Pooran, misjudging the ball in the air and taking only a light touch before falling to the ground.

Problems continued in the 18th over also. Shashank again misjudged his decision and let Aiden Markram’s ball go over him for six runs. That moment clearly frustrated Ricky Ponting in the dugout, as the fielder seemed to have completely lost track of the ball.

Things got worse in the final over when Shashank dropped Mukul Choudhary after failing to catch the ball despite having both hands on the ball. While captain Shreyas Iyer managed to smile, Ponting’s reaction showed how serious the mistakes were. Despite the win, it was a fielding effort that Shashank would look to build on quickly.

However, Shashank played a quickfire 17 runs off just six balls, hitting a four and a six, which helped Punjab Kings cross the 250-run mark. Defending 254, PBKS continued their impressive run in the tournament by restricting the Super Giants to 200 for five.

From lab to market: IISc team, surgeons develop dissolvable stent to cut down on second surgeries india news

From lab to market: IISc team, surgeons develop dissolvable stent to cut down on second surgeries

BENGALURU: A tiny, disintegrating tube developed in a Bengaluru lab is moving a step closer to hospital use, offering a way to avoid repeat procedures after major abdominal surgery. The device, called the “Asthana Stent”, is the result of a collaboration between liver transplant surgeon Sonal Asthana at Aster CMI Hospital and researchers led by Kaushik Chatterjee at IISc, spanning the departments of materials engineering and bioengineering. It has now been licensed under an Indian patent to Advanced MedTech Solutions Pvt Ltd, marking the transition from a laboratory prototype to a product that can reach the operating room. The idea originated from a frequently observed problem after liver transplantation. Surgeons must connect the bile ducts, a delicate connection that can later leak or narrow. These complications affect 11% to 40% of patients and often require a second procedure to correct.

Representative Image (AI-Generated)

Current solutions rely on a plastic tube or stent to keep the vessel open while it heals. But these come with trade-offs. Some are protruding outside the body and require careful management. Others remain inside but must be removed later through an additional procedure, adding cost and risk.“The new stent takes a different approach. It is made of polydioxanone (PDS), a biodegradable polymer already used in dissolvable surgical sutures. Once placed inside the body, it keeps the vessel open for about six weeks, then slowly breaks down and is absorbed. It does not need to be removed,” the research team said.Converting that idea into a working device required engineering work by Thaseeb Rahman of the Department of Materials Engineering at IISc and Saswat Chaudhary of the Department of Bioengineering. The team designed the tube to stay open under pressure and resist migration using surface ridges and Velcro-like hooks, while a flexible middle section allows placement even if the duct opening is misaligned. Small radiopaque markers allow doctors to track it using X-rays.“Tests showed that the stent could withstand more than 16 newtons of pressure, far greater than bile ducts experience. It maintained its structure for up to six weeks in both laboratory conditions and human bile, covering the critical treatment window,” the researchers said. Now with the technology licensed, the focus has turned to manufacturing and approval. The company will take it through the regulatory scrutiny prescribed by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). The project has also received support from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).If approved, the stent would be used only during surgery and would be available in several sizes. For patients, the benefits are straightforward: one operation instead of two, and less chance of complications after going home.

Greene: Marjorie Taylor Greene floats claim Trump assassination attempt was staged: ‘What happened at Butler…’

Marjorie Taylor Greene claims Trump assassination attempt was staged: 'What happened at Butler...'

Fresh controversy has erupted in conservative circles after former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene publicly questioned Donald Trump over an assassination attempt during the 2024 campaign.Greene was once a strong ally of Trump, but has now joined a group of his supporters who are raising doubts about the shooting at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. “President Trump, of all people, should take the lead in getting the whole truth out,” he said in a posting on Twitter. “Why is he not there?” He added. “That’s the question.”The attack occurred on July 13, 2024, when a gunman opened fire during a campaign speech. The suspected shooter was Thomas Matthew Crooks who was shot by a Secret Service sniper just after firing several shots toward the President. One bullet missed Trump’s ear, while two others were injured. Local volunteer firefighter Corey Comprator was killed while protecting his family.Photos from the scene showed Trump raising his fists and yelling, “Fight! Fight! Fight!” As soon as the agents surrounded him. He later said that he was “saved by God” to “make America great again.”At that time political opponents had raised questions on this incident. However, the questioning of MAGA bigwig Greene is a different development, with some of Trump’s own supporters now promoting theories that the Democrat may have been attacked to score political points. No evidence has been provided to support these claims. Greene also drew attention to a post by former Republican National Convention delegate Trisha Hope of Texas. Sharing the post, Green wrote: “Extremely important post to read and consider. Corey Comperer’s family deserves to know the truth about Matthew Crooks and what happened at Butler on July 13, 2024.”Hope said in her post that she found some things suspicious in the incident. He pointed to Trump’s statement that he would only speak about the horrific incident once because it was “so painful.” He wrote, “When people lie, certainly big ones, it’s hard to keep all the details straight… In my opinion, Trump made this statement to prevent further conversation about what happened.”Hope also questioned why Trump did not “aggressively” criticize the Secret Service. After the incident, he praised agent Sean M instead. Curran, who was later appointed director of the agency for “risking his life to save mine from an assassin’s bullet”.A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) review later found security failures and confirmed that six agents were suspended after the attack.Hope further claimed that Trump’s photos from the rally appeared unusually composed, and claimed that the death of one person made the event more believable. He wrote, “If you can’t see this story, and can’t use critical thinking skills and have at least some questions, then you are the problem and we need to get over it.”His claims went viral, garnering hundreds of reactions within hours. Some users compared the response to the 1981 effort Ronald Reagan by John Hinckley Jr., noting that the agents immediately rescued the President.

‘You approved… now you are firing… let me turn back’: Hormuz crisis call caught on tape | india news

'You approved... now you are firing... let me turn back': Hormuz crisis call caught on tape

New Delhi: “Iranian Navy, Iranian Navy. I will turn to starboard and go back, I will turn to starboard and go back, do not fire… SEPA Navy, SEPA Navy, Motor Tanker Sanmar Herald. Sepa Navy, you cleared me, you cleared me to go. My name is second on your list, you allowed me to go. Now you are firing, let me turn back.” The distress call from the captain of the Indian-flagged oil tanker Sanmar Herald clearly reflected the confusion created by the firing in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, as Iran reimposed restrictions on passage, impacting the ceasefire and movement of ships through the strait. In an audio recording of more than two minutes on channel 16, the international maritime radio frequency dedicated for emergency, distress, security and calling, the captain of the Indian ship appealed to the Iranian Navy not to open fire and promised to return. Meanwhile, another video recording of radio communication captured and shared on social media shows that the Indian cargo ship Bhagya Lakshmi was approaching the UAE strait when it was stopped. Social media posts showed an IRGC operator telling the crew, “The Strait of Hormuz is blocked and there is no permission for you. You are ordered to return to your departure immediately.” Iranian naval personnel also asked the captain to wait for permission. According to maritime traffic data, no ships were crossing the crucial global energy choke point as of Sunday evening. An Indian very large crude carrier (VLCC) Samnar Herald and another bulk carrier Jug Arnav returned to the Persian Gulf after an incident of firing while transiting the Strait of Hormuz and no crew were reported injured, the shipping ministry said on Sunday.

Investigation of the SIM box led the police to the handler involved in foreign cyber fraud. gurgaon news

SIM box investigation led police to handlers linked to foreign cyber fraud
Investigators said the setups were deliberately located near IT centers to avoid suspicion and enable uninterrupted operations.

Gurgaon: Police investigating a SIM box cyber fraud racket operating from rented houses in the city have identified an India-based handler linked to operators in Cambodia and the Philippines, pointing to a cross-border network. The development follows a crackdown over the past few weeks, during which police destroyed several SIM box setups operating from rented accommodation in Chakkarpur and U-Block. Five people have been arrested so far from locations in Gurgaon, Haryana; Jalgaon, Maharashtra; Ahmedabad, Gujarat; And Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh.During the raid, police recovered 15 SIM boxes, seven Wi-Fi Tapo cameras, seven routers, seven inverters, 42 batteries, 29 Tapo Wi-Fi switches, 28 Ethernet cables and 504 SIM cards.Investigators said the setups were deliberately located near IT centers to avoid suspicion and enable uninterrupted operations. In many cases, landlords had limited involvement beyond renting out the premises and were later made part of the investigation as complainants. However, even as the cyber police continue to crack down on the SIM box racket, a key gap is emerging in the investigation – while local operators are being arrested, the handlers controlling these networks from abroad are hiding behind coded identities.According to a senior official, foreign handlers linked to countries such as Cambodia and the Philippines operate using aliases, making it difficult for investigators to establish their real identities. “They do not disclose who they are. They work through code names, which becomes a major hindrance in pursuing the investigation.”The investigation has also revealed that the people arrested in such cases are well aware of the fraud. Police said that the accused were fully aware of their role. “They know what kind of scams these systems are used for, but they continue because of the money involved,” the official said.Recruitment in these cyber networks is often done through telegrams and personal contacts. “They look for targets who are looking for easy money or who do not have a job,” police said. The accused, mostly young men, were paid around Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per month to operate the devices, which routed international calls through local SIM cards to make them appear as domestic numbers – a key element in such frauds. While the Gurgaon Police has been able to dismantle many such setups, the financial scale of the fraud involving SIM box operations is still being assessed as part of the ongoing investigation.Officials said the findings highlight a layered network in which local operators form the operational backbone, even as the masterminds remain out of immediate reach.“We are thoroughly investigating the case to nab the Indian handler,” an official said.

Connor Colquhoun, better known as CDawgVA, has completed his 2026 Cyclethon after another long and demanding ride across Japan. This year’s event raised approximately $1.5 million for the Immune Deficiency Foundation. By the time they crossed the finish line, donations had reached nearly $1,470,000, making it again one of the largest donation streams on Twitch. The goal of the event is simple but powerful. This money is used to help people with primary immunodeficiency. Over time, the ride has grown into much more than just cycling. It has become an annual moment where online communities come together and give back in a big way.

Connor Colquhoun turns Cyclethon into one of Twitch’s biggest charity events

This year’s cyclethon lasted for 15 days. Connor traveled to different parts of Japan while broadcasting the trip live. He was not alone. Along with a number of guests appearing during various stages of the ride, familiar faces such as Chris Broad joined them again. What makes this event special is how it has grown every year. The first cyclethon in 2022 raised more than $300,000. A year later, it surpassed $550,000. Then kept climbing. In 2025, the fourth edition brought in more than $1 million. Now, with Cyclethon 5, Connor has brought the total amount raised across all events to over $5 million. There is also a personal reason behind this effort. Connor’s close friend Ironmouse lives with an immune condition. His story has played a big role in shaping this fundraiser and keeping it focused on real impact. The timing of this finale made things even more interesting. The Sidemen Charity Match that same weekend raised over $8 million for charity. This means that two major creator-driven fundraisers were happening at the same time, which shows just how much influence online communities now have when it comes to helping others.Connor kept things simple when speaking to viewers during the final stream. “This is something we build together every year and it’s getting bigger because of all of you,” he said.
