New Delhi: Royapuram Assembly constituency in North Chennai has emerged as a major political battleground ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on April 23, the counting of which is scheduled for May 4. Considered an AIADMK stronghold under veteran leader D Jayakumar for over three decades, Royapuram went to the DMK in 2021 after Idrim R Murthy won a decisive victory, reshaping its political landscape. For the upcoming elections, the DMK has fielded orthopedic surgeon Dr A Subair Khan, son of late party leader A Rehman Khan, to retain the seat. He faces a tough challenge from six-time MLA Jayakumar, who is trying to regain his former stronghold, relying on his long-term ties with the coastal community as a former fisheries minister. Jayakumar was the runner-up in 2021, losing to Murthy, who garnered 53.16% votes and a victory margin of over 27,000. However, in 2016, Jayakumar won the seat with a margin of 55,205 votes and 6.57%. Actor-politician Vijay’s TVK’s TV Somu and NTK’s Babumaylan are also in the fray. Royapuram: Home of fishing communities Royapuram has historically been a center of the working class, home to fishing communities, port workers and small traders. For many residents, especially fishermen, election concerns go beyond visibility, focusing on livelihood issues such as better access to markets and stable income. The constituency also faces significant urban challenges. Residents often cite severe air and dust pollution caused by heavy freight traffic, prolonged traffic congestion near the Royapuram bridge and frequent sewage contamination of drinking water. These issues have made infrastructure and environmental health central to the current election discussion.(With ANI inputs)

Trumpiana: Was a form of Old Macdonald. AIAIO

Trumpiana: Was a form of Old MacDonald. AIAIO

Donald, as the first of his beloved wives liked to call him, was angry. He loves playing roles with AI imagery, portraying him as a king, a footballer, a lion, Superman, the Pope and more – except maybe God and Donald Duck. But there was never that much of an uproar over that post, which, in his words, portrayed him as a healer who made people better, whom critics, including some of his ardent MAGA supporters, somehow mistook for Jesus Christ!

Watch

The cut in aid to migrant children has deepened the rift between Trump and the Pope, triggering a new controversy.

“Only fake news can come out, so I just heard about it, and I said, ‘How did they come up with that?'” Trump complained on Truth Social, dismissing the blasphemy allegations. “It’s supposed to be that I’m making people better.”“And I make people better. I make people a lot better,” claimed the peacemaker-turned-bomber-turned-healer, even as he removed an image of a Jesus-like figure casting ethereal light over a patient’s head as translucent figures look down from the heavens.“Normally I don’t like to do this, but I didn’t want anyone to be confused,” he wrote, only to post another image a few hours later showing Jesus embracing him.“Radical leftist lunatics might not like it, but I think it’s pretty cool!!!” Trump praised X’s new image, which shows him in front of a microphone with the arms of Jesus wrapped around him and an American flag in the background.Trump then took aim at Pope Leo, the first American-born Pope, for his criticism of the Iran war, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible at foreign policy.”“I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have nuclear weapons. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that the US invaded Venezuela,” Trump wrote, claiming that this was the reason Leo was chosen as the first American-born Pope.Rather than back down, Leo hit back, saying that the “illusion of omnipotence” is fueling the US-Israel war in Iran, now in its eighth week.“Enough of the idolatry of self and wealth!” He said during a mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. “Enough of displays of power! Enough of war! True strength is shown in the service of life.”“Stop pandering to the radical left, and focus on being a great Pope, not a politician,” the POTUS warned, escalating the unholy war of words while striking another blow at the pontiff.Saying he has “no fear of the Trump administration,” Leo condemned “those who manipulate religion and the name of God for their military, economic and political gain.”Meanwhile, even though Trump vowed to keep the US blockade of Iranian ports “in full force” following the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, NBC suggested Trump was trying to avoid war with Iran. One major reason: the upcoming state visit of King Charles III in late April. In fact, according to NBC, Trump is talking about this trip as yet another reason to justify his controversial ballroom, whose “overground” construction has been halted by an “out of control Trump hating judge” at the behest of “a woman walking her dog.”“The water can go 3 to 4 inches above his shoes. It’s not a good feeling,” Trump told reporters a few weeks ago, alluding to the potential humiliation of the British monarch stepping on the wet grass on the South Lawn rather than a marble floor. “King Charles, who is a great man, we don’t want him sitting in a pond of water.”Back on terra firma, the great doctor touted the virtues of diet soda to help prevent cancer, prompting some real doctors to remind the public that Trump’s favorite beverage will do nothing to prevent cancer.Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon and television personality who now leads the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, shrugged off Don Jr.’s boss’s prescription without objection. podcast.Oz told the president’s eldest son, “Your father argues that diet soda is good for him because it kills grass – if it is put on grass – so, therefore, it should kill cancer cells inside the body.”The New York Times suggested that Trump’s erratic behavior and sometimes profane statements, as well as his “An entire civilization will die tonight” threat to wipe Iran off the map, “have given many people the image of a deranged autocratic ruler obsessed with power”.While the White House claims POTUS is sharp and keeps his opponents on edge, House Democrats introduced legislation that would create a commission to assess whether Trump is ineligible to serve and should be removed under the 25th Amendment — with little chance of success.Meanwhile, Trump has repeatedly promised to pardon his top aides before leaving office, according to the Wall Street Journal’s Fly on the Wall account.“I would pardon anyone who came within 200 feet of the Oval,” Trump said laughing at a recent meeting. As the President repeated this line, the range appears to have widened from within 10 feet last year.In a conversation with advisers last year in the dining room next to the Oval Office, Trump said he would host a news conference and announce mass pardons before leaving office, according to the Journal.Trump has used the unconditional power of pardon offered by the presidency with great abandon, distributing nearly 1,600 grants so far in his second term. Many have reached out to colleagues and donors, or those who hired them, after a social pull or a round of golf.It may be all fun and games for Trump, but it is no laughing matter for the world hoping for a respite from his bizarre rule.(By arrangement with The American Bazaar, www.americanbazaaronline.com)

What is Joe Rogan doing in the White House? Trump invites podcaster and calls him 'liberal'

Joe Rogan’s appearance at the White House with Donald Trump has raised eyebrows, after the MAGA podcast host joined the president during the signing of an executive order focused on psychedelic drug research for mental health treatments.Rogan was in the Oval Office right behind POTUS on Saturday when Trump signed a measure aimed at accelerating research and regulatory approval for certain psychedelic-based treatments, particularly those being studied for conditions such as depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder in veterans.“Today’s order will ensure that people suffering from debilitating symptoms finally have the chance to reclaim their lives and live happier lives,” Trump said. The order directs the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to accelerate its review process for treatments that are already in advanced clinical trials. This also includes drugs, such as psychedelics, which are being studied for mental health care.Trump talked about ibogaine, a psychedelic substance used in some countries for PTSD treatment, and said the administration would explore expanding access through the Right to Try Act, which allows terminally ill patients access to experimental treatments that are still under review.Joe Rogan has previously criticized Trump on foreign policy decisions and said the initiative began after he shared information about psychedelic treatments with the president.“I sent him that information. The text message that came back: ‘Sounds great. Do you want FDA approval? Let’s do it.’ Really that quickly,” Rogan said at the White House.Rogan also explained how the discussion began through his podcast, where psychedelic therapy has often been a topic. Also present at the event were FDA Commissioner Martin Macri, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz.“Under this new program in this administration, drugs can be approved in a matter of weeks, not a year or more, if they align with our national priorities,” Macri said.During the event, Trump also joked while responding to the discussion about mental health treatment.“can I have some please?” He said, “I’ll do whatever it takes… I don’t need to be sad. If you’re busy enough, maybe this will work, that’s what I do.”Rogan’s appearance comes as he has also been openly critical of Trump’s foreign policy, including recent military actions in Iran. Despite this, Trump described him as “a little more liberal”, but said he still respected him.Trump said, “We all respect Joe. He’s a little more liberal than me and that’s OK.”

'Using women as a decoy': Opposition criticizes PM Modi on reservation bill address

New Delhi: Opposition leaders on Saturday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his Women’s Reservation Bill address, where he accused the TMC, Congress, DMK and its allies of being guilty of “feticide” for not allowing the quota bill to be passed in the Lok Sabha.TMC MP Derek O’Brien said, “Narendra, the worst way to insult women is to use them as bait* to try to pass the Delimitation Bill.”TMC MP Mahua Moitra dismissed the PM’s speech as “theatrics”, and said that “women’s reservation has already been passed in 2023 and notified 2 days ago”.“Hello Narendra Modi – Your dramatization and your Godi media script will not hide the truth – Women reservation has already been passed in 2023 and notified 2 days ago. Now no one can stop you from implementing it and giving 1/3rd of 543 seats to women as TMC has done. In his address, PM Modi described the defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha, which sought 33% reservation for women and increasing the seats to 816 before the 2029 elections, as a major setback for women across the country, and apologized for failing to get it passed despite government efforts. He said, “Today I have come to talk to the mothers, sisters and daughters of the country. Today every citizen of India is seeing how the dreams of India’s women power have been brutally crushed. Despite millions of efforts, we could not succeed. For this, I sincerely apologize to all the mothers and sisters.”She said, “For us, national interest comes first. But for some people, when party interest becomes everything, then women empowerment and national interest gets affected. The same has happened this time too. The women of this country have had to pay the price for the selfish politics of parties like Congress, DMK, TMC and SP.”
