कौशांबी जिले में पुलिस को उस समय बड़ी सफलता हाथ लगी जब भैंस चोरी करने वाले एक सक्रिय गिरोह से उसकी मुठभेड़ हो गई. मंझनपुर थाना क्षेत्र के पतौना पुल के पास हुई इस कार्रवाई में पुलिस ने गिरोह के पांच सदस्यों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया. मुठभेड़ के दौरान पुलिस की जवाबी फायरिंग में दो बदमाश घायल हो गये. दोनों के पैरों में गोली लगी है और उन्हें इलाज के लिए जिला अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया है. पुलिस ने आरोपियों के कब्जे से चोरी की पांच भैंसें, अवैध तमंचे, कारतूस और एक पिकअप गाड़ी बरामद की है। घटना के बाद इलाके में पुलिस की कार्रवाई चर्चा का विषय बनी हुई है.
सूचना मिलते ही पुलिस ने घेराबंदी कर दी
पुलिस के मुताबिक, मंझनपुर थाना क्षेत्र में काफी दिनों से भैंस चोरी की घटनाएं सामने आ रही थीं. पुलिस को सूचना मिली थी कि इलाके में एक संगठित गिरोह सक्रिय है और चोरी की भैंसों को दूसरे जिलों में बेचने का काम कर रहा है. सूचना के आधार पर पुलिस टीम ने पतौना पुल के पास घेराबंदी की. पुलिस ने जब संदिग्ध गाड़ी को रोकने की कोशिश की तो बदमाशों ने खुद को घिरा देख पुलिस टीम पर फायरिंग शुरू कर दी. पुलिस ने भी जवाबी कार्रवाई की, जिसमें दिलशाद और राज नाम के दो बदमाश घायल हो गये. पैर में गोली लगने के बाद पुलिस ने दोनों को पकड़ लिया।
पांच अभियुक्त गिरफ्तार, चोरी की भैंसें बरामद
मुठभेड़ के बाद पुलिस ने मौके से गिरोह के कुल पांच सदस्यों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया. पुलिस ने आरोपियों के कब्जे से चोरी की पांच भैंसें, दो अवैध तमंचे, कारतूस और एक पिकअप गाड़ी बरामद की है। पूछताछ में आरोपियों ने भैंस चोरी की कई घटनाओं में शामिल होने की बात कबूल की है। पुलिस अधिकारियों के मुताबिक गिरोह रात में गांवों में जाकर भैंसें चुराता था और फिर उन्हें दूसरे जिलों में बेच देता था. पुलिस अब इस गिरोह के नेटवर्क और अन्य सहयोगियों के बारे में जानकारी जुटाने में लगी है.
आपराधिक रिकॉर्ड खंगालने में जुटी पुलिस
घायल बदमाशों का जिला अस्पताल में इलाज चल रहा है, जबकि अन्य आरोपियों से लगातार पूछताछ की जा रही है. पुलिस अब इस गिरोह का आपराधिक इतिहास खंगाल रही है और यह पता लगाने की कोशिश कर रही है कि इन्होंने किन-किन जिलों में वारदातों को अंजाम दिया है. पुलिस का कहना है कि जल्द ही इस मामले में और भी बड़े खुलासे हो सकते हैं.
