The FBI in Boston announced that they have shut down a call center operation in India after busting a major racket that also involved criminals from the US. The call center operation defrauded hundreds of elderly victims in the US and elsewhere out of millions of dollars through technical support scams. Who are Adam Young and Harrison Gewirtz? What was the scam?

Adam Young, 42, of Florida, and Harrison Gewirtz, 33, of Las Vegas, operated a business, Ringba, that provided telecommunications-related services, including telephone numbers, call routing services, call tracking and call forwarding services, to customers they knew engaged in technical support fraud schemes. He has now pleaded guilty to a felony, in violation of federal law. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 16, 2026.The investigation further revealed that call centers based in India used Young and Gerwitz’s business to route their “technical fraud” scheme calls and, in some cases, advised those fraudsters on ways to reduce complaints and prevent account terminations.

Indian nationals Sahil Narang, Chirag Sachdeva, Abrar Anjum and Manish Kumar were convicted of charges related to India-based telemarketing fraud schemes that targeted Americans and defrauded millions of dollars, many of them vulnerable to the fraudulent schemes due to age or infirmity. The fifth person convicted in the same scam was Jagmeet Singh Virk.

According to court documents, from approximately 2016 to 2022, Young, Gewirtz and others knew that some of their customers were engaged in tech-assistance fraud schemes. New Delhi: Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka DK Shivakumar Amid growing speculation about a possible change of leadership in the Congress government, he said on Thursday that time will decide whether he will become the Chief Minister of the state or not.Speaking to reporters in Chamarajanagar, in response to a question on whether he would become the CM, Shivakumar said, “Time, auspiciousness will answer.”His statement comes amid heightened expectations within the Congress that the party high command may soon take a decision on a possible leadership change and long-pending cabinet reshuffle as the Siddaramaiah-led government completes three years in office.There are growing fears that the Congress leadership may soon call Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, who is also the Karnataka Congress President, to New Delhi to discuss the ongoing power struggle for the chief ministerial post.Asked about his recent temple visits and prayers amid speculation over the CM post, Shivakumar said, “You are there as God. We are not among those who are going to sit here and decide on this matter,” he said.Parameshwara further said that, as per his knowledge, no specific time limit was set for Siddaramaiah to assume office as Chief Minister.He said, “We are not aware of this. Neither the General Secretary nor anyone from the high command has told us anything about this.”Responding to senior Congress MLA KN Rajanna’s recent comments that Parameshwara should be made the chief minister in case of a change of leadership, the Home Minister said, “He (Rajanna) is from our district, he is my friend. We have studied together. Naturally he has affection for me and he asked for an opportunity for Tumakuru.
