Iran claims to have 'successfully targeted' American F-18 fighter jet, shares video
Video shared by Iran’s Press TV

Amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Iran on Wednesday claimed that it has shot down an American fighter plane. Iran’s state-affiliated media Press TV shared footage showing an apparent crash on X. In the clip, a jet (Iran claims it is a US F-18) is ‘successfully’ shot down. Iranian media shared the video, saying, “Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced that it has successfully targeted an American F-18 fighter jet.”It came just hours after Iran rejected a US proposal on a “ceasefire” and warned that attacks would continue until its own demands were met. Iran has rejected the US’s 15-point proposal, saying any ceasefire would only be on its “own terms and timeline”, a senior official told Press TV. “Iran says it will end the war when it decides, not when Trump imagines it ending,” the official said.

Iran ordered to end the game: demanded closure of US bases in the Gulf, lifting of sanctions and control over Hormuz.

Tehran’s conditions include a halt to attacks, guarantees against future conflict, war damage compensation, an end to hostilities on all fronts and recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim Zolfgari warned, “Don’t wear your defeat as a compromise. The era of your empty promises is over.”As far as shooting down American planes is concerned, Iran also claimed on Sunday that it intercepted and attacked an ‘enemy’ F-15 fighter plane flying near Hormuz Island. Iran’s air defense command said it intercepted an enemy fighter jet and fired surface-to-air missiles hours earlier near the country’s southern coast and the island of Hormuz, and an investigation was underway to determine what happened to the plane, state-linked media reported.

Big blow to Nirav Modi, UK High Court refuses to reopen extradition petition. india news

Big blow for Nirav Modi, UK High Court rejects the petition to reopen the extradition petition.

Nirav Modi’s plea to reopen proceedings against his extradition to India was rejected on Wednesday by the High Court of King’s Bench Division in London, which ruled that the application did not meet the threshold of “exceptional circumstances” required to revisit the case. The court held that the grounds presented, including reliance on the Bhandari decision, were insufficient to justify reopening the proceedings. The decision is a major blow to the fugitive diamond merchant, who is wanted in India in the Punjab National Bank fraud case. The Crown Prosecution Service strongly opposed the application during the hearing, which was supported by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team traveling to London, including the lead investigating officer. The high court said in its judgment that the circumstances cited in the petition were not sufficient to reconsider the earlier extradition order, effectively closing this legal avenue for Modi.

What was the matter?

Nirav Modi is fighting extradition to India over his alleged involvement in the Rs 13,000 crore Punjab National Bank fraud, one of the country’s biggest banking scams. He has previously used a number of legal remedies in UK courts, including appeals against extradition orders and applications citing concerns over prison conditions and mental health. The latest attempt to reopen the proceedings was based on the Bhandari judgment, which Modi’s legal team argued had a bearing on his case. However, UK courts have consistently ruled in favor of extradition, finding that the evidence against him establishes a prima facie case and his rights would not be violated if he were returned to India.More updates to follow

Sinner and Savior: The Story of Rasputin, a Mystic Who Once Shook the Russian Empire

Sinner and Savior: The Story of Rasputin, a Mystic Who Once Shook the Russian Empire

“There are legends of people… who were born with the gift of making music so true… it could pierce the veil between life and death, conjuring the spirits of the past and the future.”In ryan cooglerIn ‘The Sinners’ Annie speaks these words as a warning, because somewhere in the Mississippi Delta, a young man has taken up playing blues guitar with such raw, such devastating reality that it simply does not entertain. It calls out. It opens a path between what is alive and what is not. And what comes is not always light.Go back far enough and you will find that every great civilization built its first altar not to a king or a conqueror, but to a sound. The Vedic priests of ancient India understood that the universe itself was born of vibration, Naada Brahma, that the world was sound.Ancient Egyptian priests sang death songs for their dead. The Biblical King David was a renowned musician, poet and songwriter. He was famous for playing the harp (or harp) and is credited with writing more than half of the 150 psalms in the Bible. His musical skills were used to calm the troubled soul of King Saul and bring worship to the Hebrew nation. The Romans not only worshiped their gods, they also sang for them. Every victory, sacrifice and coronation was turned to music. It was the medium through which the ordinary world reached that which it could not name. And then there were the heroes. When Alexander the Great cried because there were no more worlds left to conquer, his grief was not recorded in silence. His campaigns turned to battle hymns and victory ballads, songs by court poets who understood that this extraordinary king needed music to control himself, as the common language was not so great.Samudragupta, the great Gupta emperor of ancient India, warrior, conqueror, poet, played the veena so skillfully that his coins bore the inscription not on his sword but on his musical instrument. Here was a man who held an empire in one hand and music in the other, as if he understood that true power extended beyond the land to the deep, invisible regions of the human soul.In every civilization, music played a singular role, it became the language for the people and moments too vast for common expression. Gods. Kings. Heroes. And then, most interestingly, those who existed somewhere in between.Mystic. Celebrities who came into history without any clear explanation and went without.Which could not be fully understood, could only be felt.Annie names three traditions of this gift, Irish Phillies, Choctaw Firekeepers, West African Griots. In each, the pattern persists. The gift is real. This is extraordinary. It connects the living to something deeper, ancient and beyond.

“It also attracts evil.” | Opening scene The Sinner (2025)

Every culture that celebrated this gift also feared it, because the same medium that allows something to become sacred also allows other things to come. The veil, once pierced, does not discriminate.Which brings us, across centuries and civilizations, to a frozen river in Russia. And to Boney M.When Boney M released Rasputin in 1978, magically adapted by Aditya Dhar in the latest Bollywood bombshell Dhurandhar, the world heard it as a dramatic disco song about a scandalous Russian mystic. Attractive, dramatic, unique. The kind of song that fills the dancefloor and becomes an earworm proves to have the potential to go viral on Instagram Reels. But listen more carefully and something else emerges beneath the groove. You’ll hear Annie’s warning over the music.Because Rasputin is not just a song about a controversial historical figure. At its core, it’s the story of a man who was born with a gift so true that it pierced the veil between life and death, and the song itself is a testament to that piercing. A century after his death, his name still echoes over speakers, still compels people to stop and listen, still holds that inexpressible charge. He was stabbed in the stomach. he survived. He was poisoned. he survived. He was shot several times. he survived. He was tied up and thrown into a hole in a frozen river. Then at last he stopped. And even that, the world never believed.Grigory Rasputin was the Griot of Russia. Firekeeper of Siberia. The Frozen Empire’s answer to ancient Philly, that rare, unstable category of human that not only inhabits the world but exists on its edge. He was a farmer who moved into a palace. A sinner who healed the sick. A man to whom the normal rules of mortality did not apply. And as Anne warns us about every figure, her gift did not come alone, her death foreshadowed the fall of the royal family.Similarly, in Dhurandhar, the same song comes precisely in the middle of the fall.Ra Ra Rasputin.

Boney M. – Rasputin (Sopot Festival 1979)

Rasputin never had formal power, yet he remained close to those who did.He was born in 1869 in the remote Siberian village of Pokrovskoye, far from the centers of power. They had no formal theological training, no institutional support, and no clear path to influence. His early years were filled with restlessness and directionless wandering. His path changed during a period at the Verkhoturye Monastery, although he never became a priest. He began traveling throughout Russia, the Caucasus, and eventually the Holy Land. Stories began to follow him along the way. Some talked about treatment. Others of prayer. Many simply spoke of presence.By the time he reached St. Petersburg, his reputation had already preceded him.Through members of the clergy and nobility, he was introduced to the imperial court, where he met Tsar Nicholas II, Empress Alexandra, and their son, Alexei Nikolayevich.Alexei, the heir to the Russian Empire, suffered from hemophilia, a condition where even minor injuries could be fatal. Medical treatments at the time were limited and often harmful.Rasputin was called during one such crisis, when the boy’s bleeding had become uncontrolled. After his intervention the bleeding reduced. Alexey stood still. he survived.Rasputin was called again. And then again.

Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, Tsarevich Alexei Nikolayevich and Emperor Nicholas II in Tsarskoye Selo

Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, Tsarevich Alexei Nikolayevich and Emperor Nicholas II in Tsarskoye Selo

Empress Alexandra came to rely on him not only for her son’s health but also for reassurance in moments of uncertainty. In that dependence, Rasputin’s role went from healer to something more dangerous. As political tensions increased in the empire, Rasputin’s influence began to worry the Russian elite. Ministers were appointed and dismissed in ways that reflected his recommendations. Bureaucratic authority blurred with personal reach. To many within the administration, he represented instability rather than faith, with a man without office making decisions at the highest levels of government.Accounts from the time describe his presence, his gaze, his voice, the way conversations around him were unsettling.“I am not a saint. I am a sinner.”Hamza Ali Mazari in Dhurandhar enters a similar system. It doesn’t start with authority. During an armed encounter, Rehman, the dacoit’s son, is caught in the heavy crossfire. Hamza intervenes and brings him out alive. He is kept close, called upon again, and his role expanded through necessity rather than position. Over time, his presence begins to shape the outcomes. Other people react to him differently, and his place within the structure becomes hard to ignore.A similar sentiment is echoed in Aari Aari:“If I kill for my people, it does not make me a sinner.”Both figures work within systems that do not fully trust them, yet cannot function without them.Rasputin survived several attempts on his life, poisoning, stabbing, and shooting, before ultimately being killed. Each failed attempt deepened the myth surrounding him.Hamza faces repeated threats from Rehman Dacoit, SP Chaudhary and Iqbal, and he survives, continuing to move forward in the same unstable system. This is where Annie’s warning takes its final form:“This gift can bring healing to their communities… but it also attracts evil.”Rasputin heals a dying heir and becomes embroiled in the political collapse of an empire already on the brink.Hamza saves a life and steps into a system that begins to change around him and eventually collapses.

US Army has increased the recruitment age from 35 to 42, opening doors for older recruits in major recruitment.

US Army has increased the recruitment age from 35 to 42, opening doors for older recruits in major recruitment.

In a significant change aimed at boosting recruitment, the US Army has raised its maximum enlistment age from 35 to 42, increasing the pool of eligible candidates and aligning itself with other military branches. The revised policy applies to the Regular Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserve. According to officials, the move is part of a broader effort to address persistent shortfall in recruitment targets over the past few years.Along with the age extension, the Army has also relaxed rules for persons with minor drug-related offences. People who have a single conviction for marijuana possession or related paraphernalia can now be admitted without needing a special waiver, a process that previously involved long waiting periods and additional approvals.

Why the sudden change?

The Army has struggled to meet its recruitment targets, missing targets in consecutive years. Analysts and military officials point to changing demographics and rising career expectations among younger generations as major challenges.Interestingly, the average age of recruits is already increasing. In 2024, the general intake was about 22, a figure that is continuously increasing.Experts believe older candidates can bring valuable benefits. Studies and recruitment data show that they often perform better on aptitude tests, demonstrate greater focus, and are more likely to stay in the service longer or earn promotions.

Older Recruits: A Mixed Bag

While the older enlistees provide maturity and experience, this change is not without drawbacks. The data highlights that they may face higher dropout rates during basic training and may see slightly higher attrition overall.Still, military planners appear willing to accept that tradeoff in exchange for stronger skill sets and professional experience.

Focus on skills, not just strength

The policy change reflects broader changes in the Army’s requirements. Modern warfare depends on technological expertise, from artificial intelligence to space missions.Executives have stressed the importance of attracting candidates with specific skills. The Army has expanded pathways to professionals in technical fields and aims to significantly increase the number of personnel with college degrees.Recruitment messaging has also been revamped to attract Gen Z, while new pre-training programs help candidates meet fitness and academic standards before formal recruitment. Military leaders say the changes highlight a shift toward creating a more capable and technically proficient force.

Like young MS Dhoni more, he is India’s greatest white-ball captain: Sourav Ganguly

In a candid take on the Indian cricket leadership hierarchy, former captain Sourav Ganguly has described MS Dhoni as the country’s greatest white-ball captain. Speaking at the TV9 WITT Summit 2026, Ganguly set aside his own formidable legacy to give a definitive answer on the long-standing comparison between the two icons.

During discussion. Ganguly used the ultimate metric of success to rank MS Dhoni above the rest of the Indian captains: silverware.

“MS Dhoni has won the World Cup, while I have been the runner-up,” Ganguly said, referring to India’s 2011 win. compared to the 2003 final Where India lost to Australia.

“He has led India in three World Cups. In our time, there was no T20I cricket – only the Champions Trophy and the World Cup. But MS Dhoni has won the World Cup, and I would say he was an excellent white-ball captain.”

Dhoni, who made his international debut under the captaincy of Ganguly in 2004, led India to the T20 World Cup glory in 2007. ODI World Cup 2011 And in the 2013 Champions Trophy, he became the first and only captain to compete in a white-ball three-peat.

Ganguly, who now serves as the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee Chairman and Pretoria Capitals head coach, also expressed special pride in Dhoni’s roots. Hailing from Jharkhand – a region that was largely ignored by the national selectors at the time – Dhoni’s rise served as a catalyst for a new generation of talent.

He said, “I am proud that he has come from a small place like Jharkhand. Before him, not many players from there represented the country. It is a matter of pride to come from there and become so great.”

He highlighted the “Dhoni effect” on current stars like Ishan Kishan and teenage talented players like Vaibhav Suryavanshi, noting that Dhoni instilled confidence in others.

“When someone from a state does something big at the highest level, it creates an impact – it creates confidence. ‘If Mahi can do it, I can do it.’ Take Vaibhav Suryavanshi for example. Yes, he is from Bihar, but he must have grown up watching Dhoni,” Ganguly said.

Dhoni played 12 ODI matches under the captaincy of Ganguly, in which he scored 418 runs at a strike rate of 107.45. Interestingly, Ganguly also played under Dhoni towards the end of his career and scored 530 runs in 12 matches at an average of 40.76. Dhoni led India in Ganguly’s farewell Test in November 2008.

Ganguly is a fan of young Dhoni

While the world had come to admire Dhoni’s “Captain Cool” persona, Ganguly admitted personal liking for the flamboyant wicketkeeper-batsman who came on the field with long hair and a fearless approach.

“I like the young Dhoni more than the mature Dhoni because I haven’t seen many players who can hit sixes with such ease. The long-haired MS Dhoni – under pressure, could hit a six whenever he wanted,” he said.

For Ganguly, Dhoni’s success is also a matter of regional pride.

“I feel proud because I am from Bengal and he is from Jharkhand. These regions have not produced as many cricketers as places like Mumbai, Delhi or Bengaluru. That is why I am very proud of MS Dhoni.”

Dhoni will return to competitive action in IPL 2026. At the age of 44, the former India captain is plying his trade for Chennai Super Kings, who will begin their campaign against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on Monday, March 30.

'Misogyny and derogatory': Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan criticizes UDF leader A Ershad's 'beauty' comment on MLA Pratibha

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday condemned the comments made by a UDF leader against Kayamkulam MLA U Pratibha, calling them “misogynistic and derogatory”. The comments were made by IUML leader A Ershad during an election event ahead of the April 9 polling, where he alleged that Pratibha was “selling” her eloquence and beauty for a third victory and accused her of not working for the people.

Kerala election controversy: BJP’s seal seen on Election Commission’s letter, opposition alleges collusion

Ershad had alleged, “Now she again wants to win from the constituency by selling her eloquence and beauty.”Vijayan said attacking a woman with derogatory words because she is a public representative shows the “degradation of political culture”. In a statement, he said such “character assassination” was being used because the opposition could not politically counter the development work done in the constituency. He said that this comment is not against just one person but is an insult to all women present in public life and if the opposition thought that it can get votes by insulting women instead of discussing real issues, then it is wrong.Meanwhile, Pratibha said that she will inform the Election Commission and take legal action. He said he was shocked by the comments and described them as “beyond character assassination”.She said, “During elections people look at the heart and mind of the candidate and not their body. I have given my heart and my energy to Kayamkulam and have worked hard for it. This mentality that a woman is only a body is wrong. It was a shameful statement.”Speaking to a TV channel and later at a press conference in Kayamkulam, Pratibha became emotional and questioned how such comments could be made by a leader of a major political front. “I’m very saddened by what I heard,” she said as tears streamed down her cheeks.
