The incident took place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. What happened?Berger was found guilty of making the send-off gesture after dismissing LSG captain Rishabh Pant. The act was deemed a breach of Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with using language or gestures that may provoke an aggressive reaction from an opponent. The left-arm fast bowler admitted a Level 1 offense and accepted the penalty imposed by the match referee. According to IPL rules, decisions on Level 1 violations are final and binding, leaving no room for appeal.Royals’ dominance despite controversyThe disciplinary action came in a match where Rajasthan Royals produced a brilliant all-round performance to beat Lucknow Super Giants by 40 runs.Defending a modest score of 159, RR bowled out LSG for just 119 runs in 18 overs. Only Mitchell Marsh offered resistance with a fighting half-century.Earlier, LSG’s bowling unit had done well to contain RR, with Mohammed Shami striking twice in a row while Mohsin Khan and Prince Yadav kept a tight hold. Ravindra Jadeja played a decisive all-round role for Rajasthan Royals. His unbeaten 43 took the innings by storm after the initial setbacks and he later contributed with the ball to break LSG’s resistance. He was well supported by Jofra Archer and Berger himself, who, despite the controversy, made significant successes. The comprehensive win lifted Rajasthan Royals to second place on the points table, solidifying their campaign. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants finished 9th in the points table after another disappointing batting performance.

Who was Amal Khalil? Lebanese journalist killed in attack as Israel-Hezbollah tensions escalate
Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil (file photo)

A Lebanese journalist was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Wednesday. Rescuers recovered his body hours after the attack, amid ongoing hostilities related to the Israel–Hezbollah conflict.Al-Akhbar reporter Amal Khalil took shelter in a house in the village of al-Tiri while covering the fighting. According to Lebanese officials, the attack on the house came shortly after an earlier Israeli attack in the area.Lebanese health ministry officials said two people were killed in the initial attack. After this, the second attack took place on the building where Khalil and his associate Zainab Faraz had taken shelter. Faraz was seriously injured and was pulled from the debris, but rescue teams were unable to immediately reach Khalil. The ministry said Israeli shelling in the area forced emergency responders to suspend their operations, causing delays in reaching the site. Khalil remained trapped under the debris for several hours before Lebanese Army units, civil protection teams and the Lebanese Red Cross were able to reach him. His body was recovered late at night, more than six hours after the attack.Israel’s military said it was reviewing the incident and ascertaining whether the villagers had violated the ceasefire and posed a threat to its forces. It denied deliberately targeting journalists or hindering rescue operations.Lebanon’s Information Minister Paul Morkos condemned the killing as a “gross violation of international and humanitarian law”.Khalil’s death came just ahead of a second round of talks in Washington between Israeli and Lebanese officials aimed at extending the ceasefire that took effect last week. conflict between israel and HezbollahTension continues to rise along the border, which flared up again in early March amid broader regional tensions linked to the US-Israel confrontation with Iran.

Who is Amal Khalil?

An experienced reporter from southern Lebanon, Khalil had covered conflicts in the region since 2006. His recent reporting focused on Israeli demolitions in villages where troops have established positions inside Lebanese territory. His killing brings to nine the number of journalists killed in Lebanon this year, according to media monitors cited by the Associated Press. Lebanese officials said at least 2,300 people have been killed and more than a million displaced in the widespread conflict.International press freedom groups condemned the incident. Reporters Without Borders had previously urged pressure on Israel to allow safe access for rescue workers, while the Committee to Protect Journalists said that explicitly targeting journalists and hindering rescue efforts could constitute war crimes.Lebanon’s President, Joseph Aoun, called for coordinated efforts involving the army, the Red Cross and United Nations peacekeepers to secure access to the site. The incident follows a series of deadly attacks on media workers in recent weeks. In late March, an Israeli airstrike killed three journalists in southern Lebanon, including Ali Shoaib of Al-Manar TV. Israel said he was affiliated with the Hezbollah intelligence agency, an allegation not proven.Fatima Fatouni, who worked with Al-Mayadeen TV, and her brother Mohammed Fatouni were also killed in the same attack. A few days earlier, Mohammed Sherry and his wife were killed in another airstrike in Beirut.

MK Stalin: Stalin maintains lead, but hidden Rustom Vijay keeps rivals guessing. india news

स्टालिन बढ़त बनाए हुए हैं, लेकिन छुपा रुस्तम विजय प्रतिद्वंद्वियों को अनुमान लगाता रहता हैVictory‘s TVK could tilt the balance. The campaign began as a contest over governance and welfare, and gradually transformed into a larger political argument about identity, federalism and the state’s place in the union. Thanks to Stalin’s efforts to make it a Centre-State fight, the campaign maintained a nationalized tone punctuated by political idioms specific to Tamil Nadu.DMK Started the campaign with the advantage of a strong coalition, a governance track record and visible welfare delivery. Chief Minister and DMK president Stalin, who symbolically launched his campaign from Tiruvarur, the ancestral residence of his father M Karunanidhi, put forward schemes for women and youth. As days passed, his message transformed into a sustained attack on the BJP-led central government. Increasingly, Stalin reminded voters of the “injustice” done to the state by the Centre, and warned voters of what it might do if its ally ADMK returned to power.Gradually, monthly cash transfers and free bus travel for women and free breakfast schemes for school students took a back seat due to an intense political pitch. At the peak of the campaign, Stalin wore a black shirt and dramatically set fire to a copy of the Delimitation Bill, thereby viewing the election as a defense of Tamil Nadu’s rights against Delhi. Yet, in his quiet, direct approach – his morning walks and impromptu meetings with beneficiaries – he returned to the language of welfare and distribution. At the end of the election campaign, Stalin attempted to strike that balance. “After being re-elected, my first signature will be on the order to distribute coupons of Rs 8,000 to women,” he said.Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin Campaigned with vigorous speeches throughout the state. While Stalin spoke in pure Tamil, Udhayanidhi opted for a more conversational, witty style, often taking aim at Epps. Apart from AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge campaigned for the alliance, but rumors of separation spread as Rahul and Stalin did not share the stage. The NDA flexed its national muscle with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah organizing road shows and rallies. While Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu campaigned briefly, the alliance’s most consistent campaigner was EPS.Establishing herself as a self-made leader, EPS kept her message simple and straightforward, focusing on women’s safety, drugs and the alleged governance failures of the DMK. Launching his post-Model Code campaign in Mylapore for BJP candidate Tamilisai Soundararajan, he traveled extensively, mainly attacking Stalin and Udhayanidhi. After the DMK repeatedly called him a “slave of the BJP” and taunted him with the old image of Udayanidhi falling at the feet of VK Sasikala, the EPS launched personal attacks on the Karunanidhi family. The coalition arithmetic – bringing together BJP, PMK and AMMK – gave strength to the NDA. There were reports of dissatisfaction over former BJP state chief K Annamalai’s exclusion from the candidate list, but he eventually joined the campaign. State BJP president Nainar Nagendran found his voice drowned out in the high-decibel presence of national leaders, while PMK’s Anbumani Ramadoss has focused on consolidating Vanniyar support in the northern and western districts for the NDA.And the havoc of wildcard victory continued. Campaigning sparingly but drawing large crowds, he attempted to frame the contest as one between DMK and TVK, taking aim at Stalin while avoiding direct attacks on EPS and BJP. Contesting elections in Perambur and Trichy East, and fielding candidates on 233 seats, his presence was much larger than his limited campaign hours suggested.TOI analysis of the last week of the campaign revealed that Stalin spoke for 356 minutes, EPS for 800 minutes and Vijay for just 35 minutes. Nevertheless, Vijay’s appearance holds high commemorative value – a sign that visibility and influence are no longer directly proportional in the age of spectacle politics. Both Stalin and EPS decided to ignore the large-scale victory. The closest Stalin came to targeting him was when he urged voters in Perambur to choose between an “inaccessible newcomer who makes plays” and “a leader who is accessible and responsive”. Nam Tamilar Katchi’s Seeman made amends to DMK and ADMK by targeting Vijay while speaking eloquently on the politics of Tamil identity and self-respect.All the contenders released promos, impactful videos and memes on social media with a vengeance. Despite its strong arguments against the alleged rise in crime and corruption, the ADMK-led alliance could not turn the tide of anti-incumbency sentiment. If the TVK pulls away from the anti-government votes – and fails to achieve a major victory on its own – and if the average voter chooses continuity and welfare, the DMK may be in a stronger position.

He has won five of the eight election battles fought here, including three in a row since 2011. With the support of his community, the Gounders, Palaniswami may be feeling confident about his prospects here despite the challenge from the DMK and colleagues-turned-foes like O Panneerselvam and VK Sasikala.Previous winners: 2011, 2016, 2021 (ADMK)LalgudiLima Rose Martin, wife of lottery baron Santiago Martin and the richest candidate in these elections – she has declared assets worth over Rs 1,000 crore – is in the fray here. In 2021, he defeated his ADMK rival by a margin of over 70,000 votes. The DMK will rely on Stalin’s reach, governance record and the organizational strength of the party to continue its winning streak here. The opposition has highlighted local issues and shortcomings of governance.Previous winners: 2011, 2016, 2021 (DMK)Madurai CentralIT Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan is trying to score a hat-trick of victories here. But he faces a fight in the form of Sundar C of ADMK ally Puthiya Neeti Katchi (PNK). The actor-director’s wife Khushboo, herself an actress, has added a touch of glamor to his campaign. TVK’s VMS Mustafa and NTK’s K Abdul Hakim may split the minority votes, causing damage to the DMK.Previous winners: 2011 (DMDK); 2016, 2021 (DMK)PeramburThis seat in North Chennai is the seat where actor Joseph Vijay is contesting for the first time. With a large working class population, it was a stronghold of the Left before turning into a DMK stronghold in recent years. Incumbent Shekhar won in 2021 by a margin of over 54,000 votes. IPL 2026: From square to straight – Abhishek Sharma redraws the map
Abhishek Sharma (ANI photo)

SRH opener’s 135* against DC was an inning built on subtle changes in geometry, balance and intentBy Tuesday night in Uppal, Abhishek Sharma had started looking more readable. Neither the talent was in doubt nor the intent, but the bowlers had begun to guide them into a familiar pattern. Deep midwicket and deep cover were the two coordinates of concern in recent times, with fields set not only to stop him but to highlight a familiar pattern. They dragged Abhishek, lured him to the intersection and stood there waiting with security. For Abhishek, violence was still there but the options seemed to be diminishing. For a batsman who thrives on instinct, the narrowness of the map was beginning to make sense.Go beyond limits with our YouTube channel. Subscribe now!Against Delhi Capitals, Sharma did not show just one weak stretch. He reclaimed the grounds. His unbeaten 135 off 68 balls with 10 fours and 10 sixes took Sunrisers Hyderabad to 242/2 and won by 47 runs. This was also the ninth T20 century of his career. But the significance of the shift goes beyond quantity – it was a smart adjustment.Sharma looked less rushed, less eager to create and more willing to let the ball come on its own terms. Beneath the flourish lies a wonderful recalibration. This change was most visible in his scoring arc. The arc that once spanned the horizontal has now narrowed and become straight. Seventy-one runs fell on the field through long-on and long-off. The corridor which they had neglected for so long has now been reclaimed with authority.

Abhishek Sharma

The old temptation was to keep the game square, especially through cover and point. Here, the path of the bat seemed clear and the intention straight. He got 34 runs from off drive. His footwork, still intuitive and balletic, gained a new grammar. First, he carelessly moved away to create width and force a square hit. Sharma now got to the ball, pushed the pace, closed down the angles and finished it on his own terms.Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis said, “On flat tracks, he (Sharma) is almost like Chris Gayle.” The SRH opener displayed a steady base, clean delivery and a mind that remapping the field in real time. In doing so, the 25-year-old destroyed Delhi’s plans with great ease.

Two Bangladeshi doctoral students go missing in Florida.

Two Bangladeshi students pursuing their doctorates at the University of South Florida have been missing for several days with no information from their families in Bangladesh or friends in the US. Jameel Limon and Nahida S. Bristy, 27, were last seen on April 16, according to the University of South Florida Police Department. It was believed that they were in a relationship. Both their phones are switched off now. The families raised concerns over whether he was detained by ICE, but police confirmed that his immigration status was clear and he was not being held by ICE.They disappeared within an hour as Limon was last seen at his student apartment on Avalon Heights Boulevard near the college at 9 a.m. on April 16. Bristi was last seen around 10 a.m. in the Natural and Environmental Sciences building on campus.Their mysterious disappearance went unnoticed for a day and a family friend reported them missing at 5 pm the next day after trying to reach them separately. “Everyone internally is obviously very concerned, as are we,” USF Public Safety Public Information Officer Larry MacKinnon told FOX13. “This is not typical of their behavior, they are graduate students. We do not have information that there is foul play or suspicious nature at this point.Their families said it was unusual for both of them to be absent from classes for several days as they are known to be dedicated and responsible students working on their doctoral studies. Limon is pursuing a PhD in Geography, Environmental Science and Policy, Bristi is studying Chemical Engineering.“When we get to the point where we’re not having success locating them, our next best source is the public,” MacKinnon said. “We’re right here.”Limon’s brother from Bangladesh told Fox13 that his disappearance is extremely suspicious. Zuber Ahmed said, “He is a very responsible and punctual person, and that’s why the situation is so unexpected and unusual for us…like, and very suspicious.” The last time he spoke to his brother, Limon was busy with his thesis.“Another important thing is that they talked about having a future together, but they are not that serious about it,” Ahmed said. “They’re both thinking about whether we can get married together and they’re discussing it.”

Donald Trump’s envoy pressures FIFA to include Italy in World Cup 2026 instead of Iran

The latest controversy has emerged ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with a proposal by a prominent US official putting Iran’s involvement in the spotlight. According to a report in the Financial Times, an envoy of Donald Trump has suggested that Italy should replace Iran in the tournament.

The suggestion, reportedly made to Gianni Infantino, has added a political dimension to an already sensitive situation involving travel concerns and geopolitical tensions. Iran previously raised the possibility of moving its matches away from the United States due to the ongoing conflict, but FIFA has so far said the schedule will remain unchanged.

US special envoy Paolo Zampolli confirmed the suggestion while speaking to the Financial Times, describing it as both a football and personal aspiration.

“I confirm that I have suggested to Trump and (FIFA President Gianni) Infantino that Italy replace Iran at the World Cup. I am an Italian native and it would be a dream to see the Azzurri in a US-hosted tournament. With four titles, they have the pedigree to justify their inclusion,” Zampolli said.

The proposal has also attracted attention due to Italy’s absence from the tournament. The four-time world champions failed to qualify after losing the playoff, This marks the third consecutive time they have missed the World Cup, an astonishing feat for one of football’s traditional powerhouses.

However, the idea remains only a suggestion at this stage, with no official response from FIFA or other governing bodies.

Will Iran play FIFA World Cup 2026?

For now, Iran is still scheduled to participate in the tournament. The team has already qualified and is set to play its group-stage matches in the United States, with matches scheduled to take place in Los Angeles and Seattle.

Despite earlier concerns about travel and requests to move matches to Mexico, FIFA has indicated that all games will take place as planned. Gianni Infantino also confirmed during a recent visit to the Iranian camp that preparations are continuing as usual.

Iranian officials have taken a similar stance and said the team will abide by FIFA’s final decision while continuing their preparations for the tournament.

Can Italy replace Iran in the FIFA World Cup?

Any potential replacement will ultimately be decided by FIFA.. Under tournament rules, if a qualified nation withdraws the governing body has the right to select a replacement team.

However, this process is not straightforward. Typically, continental unions insist on replacement from within their region. In this case, the Asian Football Confederation would likely argue for another Asian team to take Iran’s place.

This makes Italy’s inclusion very unlikely unless FIFA makes an extraordinary call. Despite their history and four World Cup titles, Italy were unable to qualify via the standard route, weakening their case.

The tournament is scheduled to start on June 11, but for now the situation remains unchanged. Iran is still part of the competition, and any decision to change this will require significant developments in the coming weeks.
