Mumbai: The prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club, which is the custodian of the rules of the game, on Thursday defended the controversial decision of the umpires to give out Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi for obstructing the field during a recent IPL 2026 match. The London-based club, which is headquartered at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground, issued a ‘legal clarification’ regarding obstruction of the field, saying Raghuvanshi’s dismissal met the criteria that “a batsman who changes direction while running, particularly one who changes direction to run across the pitch, or takes any other route that would not be the fastest route to the other end, is acting knowingly.”Go beyond limits with our YouTube channel. Subscribe now!The controversial incident took place during KKR’s match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow last Sunday. Raghuvanshi took a quick single and was sent back by her partner. He turned, dived to tighten his grip and was caught by the ball as the throw arrived. LSG’s fielders appealed, and on review, the third umpire, Rohan Pandit, gave him out. The pundit ruled that Raghuvanshi “changed his direction of motion” after seeing the ball thrown at him.

Explaining the law regarding ‘obstructing the field’, the MCC state that “Law 37.1.1 states that any batsman is out for obstructing the field if they “knowingly attempt to obstruct or distract the fielding side by word or action.” This means that the obstruction must have been deliberate, which can be difficult to determine. There has long been an interpretation on this exact matter, where the batsman is running as the throw arrives. – This is published in Tom Smith’s Cricket Umpiring and Scoring, the MCC’s official interpretation of the Laws of Cricket, and has been accepted for many years. It states: ‘A batsman who changes direction while running, especially one who changes direction in order to run onto the pitch, or takes any other path which would not be the fastest way to reach the other end, is acting deliberately.’The MCA said that the case for Raghuvanshi’s dismissal for ‘obstructing the field’ was made out in accordance with this law, as he had “deliberately” changed his direction from off-side to leg-side while running between the wickets. “Raghuvanshi clearly meets these criteria. When he comes out for his run, he is on the off side of the wicket. As the ball approaches the fielder, he runs down the middle of the pitch – which is not where he should be running in any situation – and then turns and runs back down the leg side, putting himself between the ball and the wicket. By definition, it is an intentional act. If he had stayed away from the pitch, on the off side, the ball would not have hit him and the question of obstruction would not have arisen. If he had started running towards the leg side, then turned and returned to his ground on the same side before being hit by the ball, he would also have been considered not out – he would have been in the way, but not intentionally. “Deliberate crossing of the pitch was what led to his collapse,” the MCC said. The MCC also clarified that dismissals for ‘obstructing the field’ do not take into account whether the batsman could have survived without any obstruction. The MCC statement concluded, “There has been some suggestion that Raghuvanshi should not have been given out because he would have made his ground even if the throw had not hit him. However, this is not a consideration. Provided that the obstruction was not to prevent the taking of a catch, whether dismissal was likely or not is not a criterion in obstructing the field.”

Turning Point USA CEO Erica Kirk has sharply criticized journalists after the attempted shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, accusing them of repeatedly labeling President Donald Trump with extremist terms such as ‘Nazi’ and ‘Hitler’.In a video message posted on Instagram and shared via her late husband Charlie Kirk’s podcast platform, Kirk said some sections of the media had used such language while attending the high-profile event.“Many of the left-wing journalists attending WHCD have spent years repeatedly calling President Trump a ‘Nazi’, a ‘threat to democracy’ and ‘Hitler’, yet they happily attended the evening’s event….”He said that such behavior shows inconsistency in his stand.“If they really believed their own rhetoric, they would either happily have dinner with ‘Hitler’ or they would be lying to radicalize American citizens about things they know are extremely exaggerated.”Kirk added, “Either way, it exposes their game of ultimate hypocrisy: build hatred and then profit from the consequences; even if it means losing a life.”

Why did she attend the dinner?

Kirk said she traveled across the country to attend the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and talk to reporters about their coverage of her and her late husband.Explaining her decision, she said, “Many journalists in that room attempted to dehumanize me, and I wanted to meet some of them face to face, quite frankly.”“Why talk about me when you can talk to me,” he added, according to the Daily Beast. Kirk also described a conversation she had with a reporter, in which she said: “It feels great to have someone’s name out there, especially with all the slander, lies, accusations that have surrounded my husband and my murder.”Recalling the dinner meeting, Kirk said, “Shots started flying and there was complete chaos.”

Claims of ‘dehumanization’ and media conduct

In his remarks, Kirk linked the attack to a broader climate of hostility.“There is a serious epidemic of dehumanization in this country,” he said, arguing that violent incidents were being normalized in public discussion. He also criticized the behavior of journalists during the shooting, saying that they focused on capturing footage instead of prioritizing safety. He said, “During a shooting act, these journalists are using their phones to capture moments for clips… they may have accidentally and literally shot themselves.”The incident comes months after the murder of Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead at a public event in 2025. Since then, Erica Kirk has taken over the leadership of Turning Point USA and has been the subject of intense public scrutiny. He said he continues to face criticism and misinformation. She said, “Every morning I wake up to a new headline telling lies about me. I have white-faced comedians. I have people saying I’m not fit to be a CEO.”Kirk also criticized political opponents and commentators, including media personalities and public figures, accusing them of contributing to a hostile environment. She said, “Our country has become unrecognizable. These people have distorted the truth to such an extent that they inspired the murder of my husband.”A dinner at the Washington Hilton was disrupted after a gunman reportedly attempted to storm the venue.According to authorities, 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen tried to breach security near the ballroom, where senior officials and journalists had gathered.Shots were fired during the incident and a Secret Service officer was shot in his bullet-resistant vest, but survived. President Trump was escorted out of the venue and the event was stopped.

Today's Chanakya Exit Poll: Mamata's defeat certain in Bengal, status quo in Assam and Tamil Nadu; Tough contest between UDF-LDF in Kerala
Mamata Banerjee, MK Stalin, Pinarayi Vijayan and Himanta Biswa Sarma

New Delhi: Exit poll predictions released by Today’s Chanakya on Thursday included upcoming assembly results in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu. AssamAnd Kerala. This estimate comes a day after several other surveyors released their estimates for these states.Today’s Chanakya has turned the current political picture upside down in its election predictions for West Bengal and given a massive mandate to the BJP with 192 seats, while pushing the 15-year-old strong TMC regime to the opposition with a paltry tally of 100 seats. The latest prediction follows this trend, with at least four other pollsters giving the BJP an edge over Mamata Banerjee’s party. The numbers clearly indicate a possible end to Mamata Banerjee’s long rule in Bengal, paving the way for the BJP to form its first government in the state after an intense and high-voltage campaign led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.In Tamil Nadu, the pollster predicted that the MK Stalin-led DMK alliance would comfortably retain power, while new political entrant TVK, led by Vijay, could damage the main opposition alliance led by the AIADMK, marginalizing Edappadi Palaniswami’s chances of returning as Chief Minister.According to estimates, Stalin’s DMK is seen getting 125 seats, AIADMK 45 seats and Vijay’s TVK 63 seats in the 234-member assembly.According to Today’s Chanakya, the numbers reflect the average seats the parties are likely to win. Projections indicate a landslide victory for the BJP in Assam, suggesting another term for the current chief minister Himanta Biswa SarmaWhile the Congress seems to be lagging behind by a huge margin, there is some respite for Gaurav Gogoi in the state that was once ruled by his father. Tarun Gogoi. For Assam 2026, Today’s Chanakya projected a clear gain for the BJP-led alliance, with an average of 102 seats, with estimates ranging between 93 to 111 seats. The Congress-led alliance is expected to get 14 to 32 seats with an average of 23 seats, while others are likely to be marginal with 0 to 2 seats with an average of 1 seat.In Kerala, projections point to a close contest between the incumbent LDF and the main opposition UDF.In Kerala 2026, projections suggest tight competition between the two major fronts. The UDF is estimated to win 60 to 78 seats, with an average of 69 seats, followed by the ruling LDF with 55 to 73 seats, with an average of 64 seats, indicating a close contest. BJP is projected to get 3 to 11 seats, with an average of 7 seats, while others are projected to get 0 to 1 seats, with an average of 0 seats.Seat estimates for the other two major states West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have not been released yet.

Forget Gas Apps: A Simple 10-Minute Solution That Increases Your Fuel Efficiency by 12%

Forget Gas Apps: A Simple 10-Minute Solution That Boosts Your Fuel Efficiency by 12%
There’s a hidden culprit in your fuel costs. Image Credit: Google Gemini

Gas prices haven’t been great in the US the past few years, and if you’re a millennial or young adult trying to make every dollar count, you’ve probably already figured out how much your commute is costing you, or maybe you’ve switched to a rewards credit card for gas, or you’ve started doing things all together. Smart tricks, but there’s a surprisingly simple solution that most drivers completely overlook. One that sits right on top of their car the whole time.If you have a roof rack or roof box that you’re not using, removing it can increase your car’s fuel efficiency by up to 12%. Yes true. Do you remember that crossbar setup you installed for a camping weekend last fall? It’s been draining your gas budget ever since. The science is very clear on this.a search, Effect of auto roof rack on fuel consumptionFound that roof racks are responsible for approximately 100 million gallons of additional gasoline consumed by the US Light-duty vehicle fleet. This is not a rounding error; This is a national level fuel problem that is weighing on everyday commuters. At the individual vehicle level, the same study found a fuel consumption penalty of 0–25% for passenger cars depending on rack configuration and driving speed. An empty rack on the highway still eats up about 1% of your fuel savings. Load it with gears, and that number can reach 25% at 70 mph.A study published in SAE International Journal of Passenger Cars Found that adding a rooftop cargo box to a Toyota Corolla increased fuel consumption by 8.8% in the city driving cycle and by 20.8% in the highway driving cycle. Even an SUV, the Ford Explorer, in the same study was hit with a 6.2% highway fine. Smaller, lighter cars always suffer more shock.

image

Researchers found that removing empty racks is a more effective fuel-saving strategy than purchasing an aerodynamic rack. Image Credit: Google Gemini

Why is your roof rack basically a fuel tax?The villain is aerodynamic drag. Anything you put on top of the car will disrupt the airflow that the car was designed to cut through. The faster you go, the worse it will be. Your engine has to work harder to fight that resistance. This is why driving on the highway has the biggest impact on efficiency. If you spend a lot of time driving on the freeway, whether it’s your daily commute or frequent road trips, an unused roof rack is quietly working against you the whole time. Even city driving is not completely free from drag penalties. The second thing you will want to know is the weight. Every additional 100 pounds you carry reduces fuel economy by about 1%. Compact and mid-sized cars are the first choice of many young drivers, and they are more impacted by extra weight than larger vehicles. That roof box you left loaded with old camping gear is not only heavy on your roof, it’s also heavy on your efficiency. While you’re at it, check your trunk tooOnce you’ve dealt with what’s on the roof, it’s worth checking out what’s living in your trunk. A gym bag you never take, a bag of returns you forget to drop off, an extra set of equipment transferred two years ago, it all adds up. One of the easiest ways to shed some unwanted pounds from your car is to get rid of the junk in your trunk. The big picture for a generation that cares about both money and milesFor Millennials and young adults struggling with student loans, high rent and fluctuating gas prices, fuel efficiency is no luxury. This is a financial strategy. The good news: One of the most impactful adjustments you can make won’t cost you anything, just ten minutes or so in your driveway.Remove rack. Keep it in the garage until you’re ready for it. Your car might not say thank you, but your gas bill will notice.

‘There is no place in the Gulf except the bottom of the water’: Iran’s Khamenei criticizes ‘great devil’ US, rejects nuclear sanctions

'There is no place in the Gulf except the bottom of the water': Iran's Khamenei criticizes 'great devil' US, rejects nuclear sanctions

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on Thursday criticized the United States, calling it the “great devil” and hinting at no compromise on Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities. In a written statement read on state television, Khamenei said Iran’s strategic programs are non-negotiable and central to national sovereignty. He also said that there is no place for Americans in the Persian Gulf region.“We and our neighbors across the Persian Gulf and the (Gulf) of Oman share a common destiny. Those who come from thousands of kilometers away to act with foreign greed and malice have no place in it – except at the bottom of its waters,” he said, as quoted by the Associated Press. He further described Iran’s technological and military capabilities as national assets that would be protected by the population. Khamenei said, “Ninety million proud and respected Iranians inside and outside the country consider all of Iran’s identity-based, spiritual, humanitarian, scientific, industrial and technological capabilities – from nanotechnology and biotechnology to nuclear and missile capabilities – as national assets, and will protect them in the same way they protect the country’s waters, land and airspace.”The comments come amid heightened tensions in West Asia, where Iran’s oil sector is reportedly under strain due to sanctions affecting the movement of tankers. The disruption coincided with volatility in global oil prices, with Brent crude previously reaching $126 a barrel. The Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of global oil and gas flows, remains the epicenter of the standoff. Iran’s strategic position on the waterway has increased volatility in energy markets and increased pressure on the United States as it considers its response. With a fragile ceasefire still in force, the US and Iran are locked in disputes over sanctions, nuclear talks and maritime control. Tehran has also proposed delaying talks over its nuclear program, while Washington says its aim is to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Iran insists that its nuclear program is peaceful but it has enriched uranium to near weapons-grade levels.Khamenei also linked Iran’s regional stance to broader geopolitical changes and said the future of the Persian Gulf should be shaped by regional powers rather than external actors. He suggested Iran would continue to assert its position on the Strait of Hormuz and what he described as a “new management” framework for the waterway. The Gulf Arab countries and most of the international community view the strait as an important international route for global trade.
