IPL 2026: No longer young, Bhuvneshwar Kumar did not give importance to Purple Cap, focused on the team

Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar believes that contributing to the team’s success is more important than chasing individual achievements at this stage of his career. His recent performances for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing Indian Premier League have taken him to the top of the wicket charts this season.

The experienced fast bowler has been RCB’s most reliable player with the ball. He gave another strong performance for his team by taking 3 wickets for 28 runs. Defeat by four wickets from Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium On Thursday night, April 30. Despite the defeat, Bhuvneshwar’s disciplined magic continued in a relatively low-scoring encounter.

GT vs RCB: highlighted | Achievement:

Speaking after the match, Bhuvneshwar acknowledged earning the Purple Cap, but made it clear that personal accolades are no longer his primary focus. “It’s good that I got the Purple Cap. But I think I’ve come out of the stage where I want to achieve something individually,” he told reporters after the game. “Of course, I still want to achieve things, but now it’s more about the team. I’m not young anymore. When you’re young, you naturally aim for those awards, and they come when you perform well.”

The 36-year-old has taken 17 wickets in nine innings this season at an impressive average of 15.53. His performance helped him overtake Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Ishan Malinga, who previously held the Purple Cap with 15 wickets.

Bhuvneshwar further emphasized that while individual recognition seems beneficial, his mindset has shifted towards contributing to collective goals. “When you work for the team’s success and also get individual rewards, it feels good. But honestly, I am just trying to give my best. I am gaining confidence from the management and that is what matters most,” he said.

During his 325th T20 appearance, Bhuvneshwar also achieved a significant career milestone. He became the first Indian fast bowler and second Indian overall to reach 350 wickets in T20 cricket. He now has 352 wickets at an average of 24.51, including five four-wicket hauls and five five-wicket hauls, with his best performance being 5/4. Among Indians, only Yuzvendra Chahal has more T20 wickets, with 391 wickets in 337 matches.

RCB is currently at second place in the points table With 12 points, trail Punjab Kings, who have a game in hand. Their next match will be against Lucknow Super Giants on May 7 at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

Edward the Confessor seal: Lost for 40 years: 1,000-year-old royal seal of Edward the Confessor found in Paris | world News

Lost for 40 years: 1,000-year-old royal seal of Edward the Confessor found in Paris

An 11th-century seal owned by Edward the Confessor has been rediscovered in the French National Archives in Paris. Historians had not seen it for more than 40 years. Dr. Guilhem Dorandeau, a researcher at the University of Exeter, found the artifact while examining medieval documents. This seal, dating from the 1050s, was originally attached to a document from the Abbey of Saint-Denis. Since the 1980s, it was hidden among unlisted collections. This seal is about three inches wide and is the only complete example of his design from before the Norman Conquest.

Why was the 1,000-year-old royal seal missing for decades?

Dr. Dorandeau made an amazing discovery while studying some ‘trans-channel’ documents, which are records shared between England and France over many years of history. This seal was missing for a long time because it was in a collection section that was not prioritized for digital cataloguing. Once Dr. Dorandeau realized how important this waxwork was, he called it a ‘career-defining moment.’ As a study by the University of Exeter points out, fragments of Edward’s seals exist; It is the most intact and well-preserved example of the king’s ‘Great Seal’ ever discovered.

The hidden politics of the great seal

This seal shows an interesting change in how early English kings viewed their authority. In the imagery, Edward the Confessor is seated on a throne, holding a scepter and an orb, symbols inspired by the ‘chrysobulls’ (golden bulls) of the Byzantine Empire. Historians believe that this ‘Eastern’ influence was not accidental. The House of Wessex wanted the people to see them as having imperial splendor like the Roman emperors in Constantinople, and not as mere regional rulers.

How medieval wax defied time in Paris

The seal, made around 1050–1060 AD, serves as an important connection between the late Anglo-Saxon era and the Norman Conquest in 1066. This suggests that complex administrative practices such as using the ‘Great Seal’ for legal documents, which were often attributed to the Normans, were already well developed during the reign of King Edward. Remarkably, beeswax has survived for almost a millennium. This is thanks to the stable conditions of the Paris cellars, where it had been kept since the late 1700s.

Mamata Banerjee: Mamata raids EVM strongroom; TMC, BJP face off over molestation claims: How the late night drama unfolded. india news

Mamata raids EVM strongroom; TMC, BJP face off over molestation claims: How did the late night drama unfold?

New Delhi: There was mutual conflict on the streets of Kolkata. Election Commission And a few days after the West Bengal Assembly elections, Trinamool Congress staged a protest inside the strongroom containing EVMs, alleging irregularities.Allegations of procedural flaws, TMC The leaders claimed that party workers deployed outside the strongroom were asked to leave in the afternoon and were later informed that the strongroom would be reopened at 4 pm.Speaking on the incident, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said, “Party workers and supporters were present outside the strongroom till 3.30 pm. Suddenly, an email was sent stating that the strongroom would be reopened at 4 pm. We contacted our workers and they said they had left. We then reached here. Now we are not being allowed to enter. BJP Being invited.”In a post on Twitter, TMC described the “act” as “murder of democracy in broad daylight”, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of colluding with the Election Commission to tamper with ballot boxes and EVMs during the ongoing voting process. In a strongly worded statement, the party claimed CCTV footage showed ballot boxes being opened without the presence of authorized representatives of political parties, terming it “gross electoral fraud”.TMC further alleged that efforts such as voter intimidation, name deletion and misuse of central forces had failed, forcing the BJP to resort to “desperate measures” such as tampering with EVMs.TMC posted, “CCTV footage has revealed how BJP, in active collusion with @ECISVEEP, is opening ballot boxes without the presence of any concerned party stakeholders. This is blatant electoral fraud being carried out openly with the full knowledge and patronage of the Election Commission.”Mamta reached counting centerThe matter got worse after TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee Braving torrential rains in the city, they reached the counting center for Bhabanipur assembly constituency.Claiming that her party has received reports of EVM tampering in several parts of the state, Mamata said, “There is a strongroom for EVMs here. We found that tampering was happening at many places. When I saw the CCTV on TV, I thought I should also go and see. Initially the central forces did not let me inside.” But according to our election rules, candidates and election agents of any party are allowed to go to the sealed room. The Chief Minister also urged the citizens to maintain peace and harmony during this crucial time. “Victory is certain,” he said.“Bengal refuses to bow before the Bohiragotos of Delhi and Gujarat, who want to subjugate a people whose soul they can never understand. Every act of wrongdoing against our people, every encroachment and every harsh strategy of the BJP and their central forces will be responded to. Once the results are out, the full price for every crime will be paid through the ruthless power of the democratic process,” TMC wrote on Twitter.BJP counterattacks on TMC’s strikeBJP responded to TMC’s protest when its leaders from Maniktala and Chowringhee reached the spot. He also argued with senior police officials on why TMC workers were allowed to gather at a sensitive site and raise slogans.BJP leaders present at the venue alleged that TMC was “creating a false narrative and lying to the people”.Tapas Roy said, “I came to know about the ruckus and reached the spot and saw TMC supporters shouting outside the venue, which they cannot do at such a sensitive place. They should not have been allowed to gather here. They verbally abused us.”“I heard that the district election officer took the TMC candidates inside to show that there was nothing wrong in the strongroom,” he said.BJP workers also stopped the movement of the TMC vehicle, accusing it of carrying suspicious items.A worker claimed, “There is something in the vehicle. Mamata Banerjee has brought something in her vehicle. The vehicle will not be allowed to move forward.”Another BJP worker said, “They (TMC) will install duplicate machines and tamper with them… What is the TMC vehicle doing outside the counting centre?”EC rejected chargeHowever, West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal said the EVM strong rooms are “safe and secure” and added that there was no “dispute” in the incident.Aggarwal told news agency ANI, “No CCTV was switched off. CCTV footage of all 8 strong rooms, 7 of EVMs and 1 of postal ballot, are being circulated. People from political parties can sit beyond the three-tier security and see it. They noticed some movement around 4 pm when our staff were opening the postal ballot room. As per the rule, all political parties were informed, and all candidates were sent to the RO. (Returning Officer).” Agarwal said, “They should have come here…after 4 pm, 3 candidates had come, and all they saw was that the EVM strong room was sealed, while the postal ballot strong room was open. After this the 3 left.”He said, “There will be no law and order situation. These things keep happening. The law and order situation is fine. Just like the elections, the counting of votes will also be 100 per cent clean.”Aggarwal insisted that the Election Commission has “nothing to hide”, stressing that they will not allow any “disturbances” in the voting processes. In an apparent reference to the video posted by the Trinamool Congress on its X handle, officials said all strong rooms containing polled EVMs have been safely secured and sealed. He noted that there was regular separation of postal ballots.HC rejects TMC’s petitionIn another development, the Calcutta High Court also dismissed TMC’s plea challenging the Election Commission of India’s direction to deploy central government and PSU employees for counting of votes. The court upheld the validity of the decision to employ Central Government/PSU employees as supervisors and assistants and dismissed the writ petition. It was observed that any grievance can be raised through an election petition under Section 100 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.Earlier, Mamata had alleged that “observers from outside” and police officers unfamiliar with Bengal were being deployed to target TMC workers during the second phase of voting. The fear of SIR dominated the Bengal elections and it is believed that this is the reason behind the highest turnout in Bengal since independence. However, political tension also increased between TMC and BJP over the deployment of security forces on the polling day.Centre-state rivalry, controversy over particularly intensive revision of electoral rolls and several other factors have made the Bengal Assembly elections one of the most tightly contested in recent memory. Most exit polls have predicted a close contest between TMC and BJP, with both parties getting around 145-145 seats in the 294-member assembly, while smaller parties and independent candidates are expected to have only a marginal presence.

'Continue watching Gaza on YouTube': Netanyahu mocks flotilla as Israel intercepts more than 20 ships with 175 activists; There is criticism at global level

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the country successfully intercepted and turned back a Gaza-bound fleet carrying activists, praising the country’s navy for the operation. In a post on Twitter on Thursday, Netanyahu praised the Israeli navy for stopping the ships before they could reach Gaza. He said, “Well done to our Navy! I instructed them to prevent the Hamas-backed fleet from reaching the shores of Gaza. The mission was carried out with complete success.”“No ships and no Hamas supporters reached our territory, not even in our territorial waters,” Netanyahu said. “They were deported and will return to their country of origin. Netanyahu said he will continue to watch Gaza on YouTube. The US State Department also supported Israel’s actions. “The United States condemns the Global Sumud Flotilla as a baseless, counterproductive stunt conducted by a sanctioned pro-Hamas entity,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said via a post on Twitter. Pigott said, “In contrast to the organized assistance mechanisms coordinated with regional partners because of POTUS’s peacekeeping plan, this flotilla bypasses mechanisms designed to ensure humanitarian assistance to civilians.” “Our allies must take decisive action against this stunt, and the participants must face any relevant legal consequences.”The peace board, established in January by US President Donald Trump, described Israel’s overnight blocking of a Gaza-bound flotilla as “love boat activism”, while pointing to its efforts to increase aid to the Strip since the October ceasefire.“Since the ceasefire last October, the Peace Board has significantly increased support for the people of Gaza. Food aid is reaching 3 times more people than before. Hamas aid theft has dropped from 90% to less than 1%. “According to the United Nations, nutrition has improved dramatically,” the board said via a post on Twitter.Israeli forces intercepted more than 20 boats from a fleet attempting to break Gaza’s naval blockade near the southern Greek island of Crete, with officials saying about 175 detained activists were to be flown to Greece.Activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla alleged that Israeli forces attacked their ships overnight in international waters, breaking engines and detaining some of them while they were sailing hundreds of miles from Gaza and Israel, as cited by the AP. The flotilla set sail from Barcelona earlier this month, with organizers saying more than 70 yachts and about 1,000 participants from around the world were expected, as additional ships joined the convoy en route to the Mediterranean.Flotilla organizers condemned Israel’s interception as “a dangerous and unprecedented escalation”, describing it in a news release as “the abduction of civilians in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, more than 600 miles from Gaza, in front of the world”.The interception was criticized by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who accused Israel of violating international law.“Israel is once again violating international law by attacking a civilian fleet in waters that do not belong to it,” Sanchez said in a post on Twitter.Iran also condemned the operation, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai accusing Israel of “theft” by intercepting and detaining activists aboard the flotilla, according to comments made by the IRIB broadcaster.Baghai described Israel’s “attack” on the convoy as “a blow to the awakened conscience of humanity” and called for international pressure to ensure the release of the activists.A six-month-old ceasefire in Gaza has halted the most intense fighting in the Palestinian territory between Israeli forces and Hamas-led militants. However, violence continues at a low level, with more than 790 people reported killed in Israeli strikes since the ceasefire took effect, according to Gaza’s health ministry.Overall, the ministry says at least 72,300 Palestinians have been killed since the war began following the October 7 attacks.

Trump administration claims Iran ceasefire ‘ends’ hostilities ahead of US-Congressional 60-day deadline

Trump administration claims Iran ceasefire 'ends' hostilities ahead of US-Congressional 60-day deadline
Despite the war powers resolution approaching its 60-day deadline, the Trump administration maintains the US is not at war with Iran. House Speaker Mike Johnson also reiterated this point and said that no congressional authorization is needed because active hostilities have ended. However, this stance faces challenges from Democrats, who argue that the deadline remains binding.

US President Donald Trump’s administration insisted the United States is “not at war” with Iran, even as the conflict has reached a critical legal threshold under the war powers resolution, setting up a potential showdown between the White House and Congress.House Speaker Mike Johnson said Thursday that congressional authorization is not needed at this stage, arguing that the US is not engaged in active hostilities.“I don’t think we have an active, dynamic military bombing, shooting or anything like that. Right now, we’re trying to maintain peace,” Johnson told NBC News at the Capitol. When pressed on the 60-day deadline under the 1973 War Powers Resolution, which falls on Friday, he was blunt. “We are not at war.”

60-day war powers deadline sparks legal debate

The comments come as the military conflict with Iran approaches the 60-day limit set by the War Powers Resolution of 1973, which states that the President must withdraw US forces from hostilities within 60 days unless Congress authorizes action.Trump formally notified Congress of the military operation on March 2, making May 1 the key deadline. With no authorization passed so far, the situation creates the possibility of a constitutional impasse. The law allows presidents to ask for a 30-day extension, though it’s unclear whether Trump intends to invoke that provision.A senior White House official said administration leaders and lawmakers are in “active conversations” about how to proceed, adding that any lawmakers opposing the authorization “will only weaken the United States military abroad.”

Ceasefire claim at the center of the administration’s argument

Central to the administration’s position is the claim that the armistice with Iran effectively stops the war powers’ clock.Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told lawmakers during a Senate hearing that the pause in fighting changes the legal calculation.“I would follow the advice of the White House and the White House on this,” Hegseth said. “However, we are in a ceasefire right now, which from our understanding means the 60-day clock stops or stops in a ceasefire.”However, that interpretation has been challenged by Democrats, who argue that the statute does not support stopping the term limits.Senator Tim Kaine responded, “I don’t believe the legislation would support it.”He added, “I think the 60 days will probably be up tomorrow and that’s going to raise a really important legal question for the administration there.”

Trump’s stance on ‘war’ has changed

Even though his administration maintains that the US is not formally at war, Trump himself has used different language to describe the conflict since it began.Announcing the initial strikes on February 28, he said, “Courageous American heroes may lose their lives, and we may suffer casualties. “This happens often in war.”On March 9 he said, “I think the war is very complete, almost.” A few days later, he described the operation as “both a war” and a “little excursion”.Later in March, Trump suggested he could avoid calling it a war because you “have to get approval” from Congress.Despite this, he said in mid-April, “I had to go to war.”In an interview with Newsmax on Thursday, he again reflected on the ambiguity, saying, “The stock market just hit a new high during a war, or military operation, whatever you want to call it.”

Background of conflict and rising costs

The current conflict began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iran, targeting Tehran and other locations. Iran retaliated by attacking US bases and Israeli targets in the region, while also disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, causing global oil prices to rise sharply.Much damage has already been done in the fighting. Acting Pentagon Comptroller Jules Hurst III told the House Armed Services Committee that the war has cost $25 billion so far, with the administration planning to ask Congress for additional funding.Military leaders who testified before the panel did not indicate that the operation would end soon, suggesting that US involvement could continue despite the ceasefire.

Democrats back down, warn of legal violations

Democrats have consistently raised concerns that the administration is on shaky legal ground and could violate the War Powers Resolution if hostilities are not formally ended or authorized.Senator Adam Schiff, who introduced a resolution calling for a halt to the conflict, said, “Some of my colleagues have indicated that the 60-day limit of the War Powers Act is the moment when they might join our efforts to bring this war to its conclusion. That time has come.”He said, “After a two-month war, thirteen service members lost their lives and billions of dollars wasted, it is time we recognize that the price we have paid is already too high.”Despite such efforts, any attempt to block the administration’s actions faces significant obstacles. Even if a proposal passes the Senate, it would need approval from the Republican-controlled House and could ultimately be vetoed by Trump.

uncertain path ahead

The War Powers Resolution has historically struggled to constrain presidential military action, with courts often avoiding intervention and disputes resolved through political negotiations. For now, the Trump administration is willing to rely on its interpretation that the ceasefire stops the legal clock, even though critics argue that the deadline remains binding. With the May 1 deadline approaching and no clear resolution in sight, the question of whether the United States is formally at war with Iran is likely to remain at the center of an intense legal and political debate.
