Round Temple discovered: A 2,000-year-old Round Temple discovered in Pelusium shows how ancient Egyptians worshiped the Nile waters. world News

2,000-year-old round temple discovered at Pelusium shows how ancient Egyptians worshiped the Nile waters

Excavations by an Egyptian archaeological team at the Tell el-Faramah site in North Sinai have ended and have resulted in the discovery of a rarely seen round temple within the ruins of the ancient city of Pelusium, which also has a new identity than previously thought. According to the Biblical Archeology Society, although the temple was believed to have served as a town hall when it was discovered in 2019, it has now been determined to have a different purpose after archaeologists found evidence of hydraulic technology associated with temple use.The Round Temple was built in the second century and remained in use until the sixth century AD. Its main feature was a circular basin approximately sixty-five feet in diameter, where water from the Nile was stored to be used as a source of water to irrigate the land near the temple. As a result of research conducted on this temple and its features, experts now believe that this temple was dedicated to the worship of the local god Pelusius, and that the construction of the temple and its surrounding structures present an extraordinary blend of ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman architectural styles.

A rare circular temple built for water worship discovered at Pelusium

As noted in the State Information Service, the structure has a diameter of 35 meters and has a square base that probably served as the foundation for a large statue of the deity it represents. Baked red brick, which was used primarily in Roman hydraulic works, has allowed the site to remain a functioning water complex for thousands of years. The builders used the Pelusiak branch of the Nile River to equip the basin with living water, which played an important role in ancient Egyptian rituals of purification and was a symbol of fertility and cosmic balance.

Why was this not an administrative building

In 2019, archaeologists discovered the site’s circular walls, which were previously thought to be political functions, but the interpretation of the site has largely changed as more excavations have been conducted. Complex drainage systems, cisterns and multiple gateways indicate that the site was a specialist religious site, rather than a political administrative building as originally speculated. The association of the deity Pelusium and the Greek word for ‘silt’ or ‘soil’ suggests that the site was closely associated with the fertile silt of the Nile River and the life-giving forces of nature.

Historical importance of Pelusium site

Pelusium was a culturally rich site and a place of safety for travelers for over a thousand years; As a result, it has played an important role in the collective history of humanity. For those traveling through the Sinai desert region, the port city marked the beginning of their journey into Egypt and provided access to goods that would be sold in Egypt. Furthermore, the unique and beautiful buildings of the Temple of Pelusium are ‘an excellent reflection of human interaction’ by blending the traditions of the indigenous Egyptians with the architectural designs that were brought to Egypt during the time of the Hellenists and later the Romans. Additionally, this long-standing tradition demonstrates how the waters of the Nile remain a source of spiritual and cultural nourishment in the eastern Mediterranean region long after its creation.

'Bengal will remember': TMC attacks PM Modi over 'Jhalmuri break', claims Jharkhand CM had to return

New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress on Monday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over breaking Jhalmuri in West Bengal’s Jhargram and claimed that his decision to extend his stay led to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren returning to Ranchi without completing his scheduled campaign for Mamata Banerjee. In a social media post on Twitter, TMC termed the Prime Minister’s apparent break as a “photo opp” and accused him of insulting a tribal leader. The party said, “Narendra Modi’s anti-tribal mindset has been exposed for all to see. Because the ‘Pradhan Sevak’ decided to extend his stay in Jhargram to eat Jhalmuri, Jharkhand Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren and his wife and MLA Smt. Kalpana Soren were not allowed to fly their helicopter over Jhargram while Modi was present there.”“Two democratically elected leaders. Grounded. Kept waiting for hours. And ultimately forced to return to Ranchi without completing their scheduled programme, all because a Prime Minister’s long snack breaks and photo sessions took priority over their democratic rights and constitutional position. This is Modi’s respect for tribal leaders. This is respect for elected representatives who do not kneel before him. He came to Jhargram to garner tribal votes. He humiliated those people. Whom he claimed to stand with. Bengal saw it. And Bengal will remember it on May 4.”This came as PM Modi took a Jhalmuri leave on Sunday amid the hustle, bustle and political heat of West Bengal, where the BJP, under his leadership, is posing a tough challenge to Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year rule. Also read: ‘Do you eat onions?’ PM Modi took ‘Jhalmuri break’ during Bengal election campaign – seeAfter concluding his address in Jhargram, PM Modi went to a Jhalmuri stall and said, “Brother, feed us your Jhalmuri.”As the vendor prepared the breakfast, the Prime Minister chatted with him briefly and asked, “How much does Jhalmuri cost?” After this he put his hand in the pocket of his Nehru jacket to make the payment.Meanwhile the vendor asked, “Do you eat onion?” The PM replied, “Yes, we eat onions. Just don’t eat our brains.”PM Modi held several rallies across Bengal on Sunday, addressing meetings in Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram and Medinipur, further intensifying the already heated competition between TMC and BJP.In Jhargram, the Prime Minister talked about the bigger national controversy that dominated political discussion all week, the collapse of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill 2026, which sought to increase Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 850 and implement the women’s reservation law.PM Modi accused the ruling TMC of being anti-tribal and anti-women and turning a blind eye to local grievances, including illegal land grabs.PM Modi said women of Bengal have been deprived of their rights, security and economic opportunities under the TMC rule, adding that women empowerment remains a key priority for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).The PM said, “You gave 15 years to the ruthless TMC government. What did the ruthless TMC government give you in these 15 years? What did the tribal areas get? Na padai, na kaami, na dawai, na sinchai (no studies, no earnings, no medicines and no irrigation)… If you want to build even a small house, you will have to depend on the TMC syndicate. Whether you are a TMC MP or an MLA. They do not care about your problems, these people are only interested in their own.” Interested in filling the safe. Here TMC has captured hundreds of acres of land of tribals.Elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in two phases – on April 23 and April 29. The real fight in West Bengal is between SIR and anti-incumbency wave India News

The real fight in West Bengal is between SIR and anti-incumbency

Protecting her bastion West Bengal for the fourth time and extending her tenure from five years to 20 years was never easy for Mamata Banerjee. He was up against a formidable challenger, the Bharatiya Janata Party, with its undoubtedly election-winning organization and immense resources and its star campaigner Narendra Modi.Banerjee was preparing for a fight to remove him from power for five years from 2021. Incidents such as the rape and murder of a junior doctor working at the Government RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, inside the college campus in Kasba, South Kolkata, a few meters away from the police station, and the continuous increase in incidents of violence against women in rural areas automatically brought people to the streets, resulting in an increase in the prevailing discontent. She may have taken to the streets to demand justice for the RG car victim, but that made no impact on voters with anti-incumbency sentiments.

.

.

In the regular course, Trinamool Congress Should have been in the dock regarding its performance as a government. Mamta Banerjee has been the Chief Minister for 15 years. Anti-incumbency wave should have been the main issue.Things changed. Instead of being a challenger, BJP He transformed into a persecutor following a nationwide crackdown on illegal Bengali-speaking immigrants, considered infiltrators from Bangladesh. The arrests, and even the deportation of some to Bangladesh, where they were trapped and tortured, angered Bengalis, whether they were loyal to Banerjee, or leaning towards the BJP, as it was the only option against dominance and abuse of power. Trinamool Congress in everyday experiences. The surprise declaration that Bengali is not a language, and the search for a translator of “Bangladeshi language” by the Delhi Police, was considered an attack on the cultural identity, pride and history of Bengalis. According to Bengali perception, BJP became the party involved in this attack, which attacked the idea of Bengali religion: eating fish and meat which in those days were considered important to the code of Sanatan Dharma. The Bengal State Assembly election of 2026 was not a regular election. It was designed as a once-and-for-all confrontation, an exercise to purge the increased number of ineligible voters, who were identified as infiltrators from Bengali-speaking – but mostly Muslim – Bangladesh who had been given asylum by the Trinamool Congress since 2011, when voting was held for the first time. The Election Commission issued warnings, even triggering a special intensive revision of voter lists in Bihar in June 2025, that Bengal would be next.It seems that the deep resentment among a very large and mixed section of voters over CM Banerjee’s Muslim “appeasement” politics has been buried by the SIR-decision-deletion process. Even his temple-building enthusiasm – laying the foundation stone of Jagannath Dham in Digha, or a Mahakal temple in Siliguri in BJP leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari’s backyard, has faded from the public domain. SIR has become a personal issue for a large number of voters, those adversely affected and others who are troubled by the process of “othering” neighbours, friends, colleagues and acquaintances, as one in 10 people have been removed or placed under adjudication by the Election Commission.Instead, the political discourse has acquired a new classification of voters, termed “under decision”, and it has become so complex that the Supreme Court took the extraordinary step of invoking Article 142 of the Constitution, which gives it the power to “pass such decree or make such order as may be necessary for doing complete justice in any cause or matter pending before it”, because 34.45 lakh people, after the SIR, were required to vote in the Bengal elections. The fundamental right to exercise one’s choice was being deprived. The Election Commission’s decision to freeze the electoral rolls without a hearing has been overturned – which Banerjee has been quick to acknowledge as ‘her victory’ on behalf of the people. The BJP’s blind defense of the SIR exercise as a necessary intensive and customized process to verify the citizenship status of all voters, infiltrators and eligible citizens left its core voters stranded in many districts, covering more than 70 constituencies, including the Matuas, a Scheduled Caste community that had fled in large numbers after 1971. The objective of the SIR, as declared by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament, is to “detect, remove, deport”.SIR seems to have overtaken anti-incumbency as the major issue in this election. The reason is simple: the effect of SIR is that 91 lakh voters have been either removed or left subject to the decision, which is just under 12%; And the number of voters has decreased from 7.08 crore to 6.44 crore. The election has turned into a clash between the Trinamool Congress and the Election Commission on the one hand and the Trinamool Congress and the BJP on the other. As the only party that has consistently supported the implementation of the SIR process and the Election Commission, even after the Supreme Court invoked Article 142 for the purpose of “doing complete justice”, in the perception of a large number of voters, the Election Commission and the BJP are interchangeable entities.Discontent, which can be generalized as an anti-establishment wave, exists. There is also widespread satisfaction, especially among women, as Banerjee is perceived as someone who meets their needs through direct cash transfer programs like Lakshmi Bhandar and Swasthya Sathi cashless health services. This loyalty is not transactional; This cannot be bought by doubling the cash transfer, as the BJP promised under the Laxmir Bhandar, Matri Shakti Bharosa scheme. The disproportionate deletion of 57 lakh women from the voter list has cut into Banerjee’s most loyal vote bank, as more than 50% of women had voted for her in the last elections. Due to this, they may lean towards BJP as an alternative. The difference between 2021 and now is that there is no bloodshed in Trinamool like before; The process of defection in BJP has ended in 2021. There has been a reverse flow from BJP to Trinamool over the last five years, the most recent and significant being Adhikari’s close aide Pabitra Kar, who is also the Trinamool candidate from Nandigram.Instead of being a challenger offering a better alternative, the BJP – with its double-engine model and its campaign on “zero tolerance for infiltrators” – has become the party that aims to serve Bengal by prioritizing and deporting infiltrators from Bangladesh, most of whom are Muslims. As the campaign is progressing, the Home Minister has made it clear that after the elections are over, every ineligible voter removed by the tribunal constituted on the orders of the Supreme Court will be deported. When the context of a state election is about issues inherited after significant changes in India’s neighborhood and not a direct contest between rival political parties about better governance, politics becomes a competition to strike the most resonant emotional chords. The question is whether the BJP is able to blame Trinamool as the last and worst culprit of legalizing illegal immigrants from Bangladesh on a large scale, or whether Trinamool has accused the BJP of being “anti-Bengali”? The new variable in the electoral battle is the home-grown Indian Secular Front, which won one seat in 2021. The party is now contesting on more than 30 seats and hopes to carve out Muslim and Dalit votes, which it can do only at the expense of Trinamool. The major rivals, the Trinamool Congress and the BJP, have positioned themselves as champions of Bengali nationalism. In the BJP’s version, the Bengali nation needs to be freed from Muslims who have come from Bangladesh, who have been granted asylum illegally and who pose a threat to the Hindu majority. In Trinamool’s version, the idea of Bengal/India, shaped by generations of Bengali nationalist leaders who contributed to the narrative and politics of the freedom struggle, needs to be defended against distortions and mutations that destroy its essence as secular, inclusive and the guardian of that imagined space where the “streams of humanity” meet the ocean of great humanity.Trinamool Congress slogans in the 2026 election boast of how “Bangla” is suffering and how it will win: “Jataoi koro hamla, abar jeetbe Bangla (No matter how many attacks, Bengal will win)” is a war cry. By positioning herself as a champion of the Bengali identity, which includes the cultural pride of being plural and inclusive, Banerjee hopes to sway sentiments in her favor, while burying the perfectly legitimate discontent growing against her local leadership at the grassroots level in urban and rural areas.

IPL 2026: Lalit Modi dismisses CSK’s ‘black magic’ letter against SRH fan, says such claims not new

A bizarre “black magic” controversy during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 took another turn after a viral letter purportedly from Chennai Super Kings was termed as fake by former IPL chairman Lalit Modi. Rejecting the claim, Modi also suggested that such incidents may not be completely unheard of in the league’s past.

During this time, controversy arose from a viral video. Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings match on 19th April Following this, an unverified complaint letter is being circulated online. Speaking on this matter through social media, Modi described the letter as suspicious, pointing to previous similar incidents.

Watch the video here:

Modi wrote in his post, “This time it looks fake. But the owner of a team did this kind of practice.”

“I remember posting some team owners doing this to the opposing team. Doing it myself in the opposing team’s dressing room. I even alerted the opposing team owners about this in the 2011 season – when it happened and I received an alert with solid evidence. I will disclose all such activities by who in the movie/TV series, as my team has decided to disclose.”

The claims added another layer to an already bizarre episode, though neither of them have officially confirmed. IPL The officers or franchisees involved regarding the authenticity of the letter or alleged act.

What was the SRH vs CSK black magic incident?

The controversy started during the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, and continued till the end.

Chasing 195, CSK got off to a great start, scoring 76 runs in the powerplay and looking firmly in control. However, SRH clawed their way through a disciplined bowling effort, gradually slowing things down and removing key batsmen including Shivam Dubey to deepen the contest.

It was during this phase that the now viral moment unfolded. A fan in the stands appeared to perform the “lemon trick”, and soon after, Saqib Hussain bowled a full ball that dropped Dube. The timing of the dismissal made it one of the decisive moments of the game, leading to a change in momentum as CSK started to lose grip.

The drama did not end here. While defending 18 runs in the final over, Prafulla Hinge, who had already given away heavy runs, almost faltered after bowling a waist-high no-ball. But he shrugged off the pressure and bowled three tight balls in the death overs to restrict CSK to 184/8 and register a memorable win for SRH.
